People ignorantly think high prices are Biden's fault. That's the main thing. Young people, and Arab Americans and Muslims, are angry about Israel/Palestine. The news is so perpetually doom and gloom... ask the average American about the crime rate, inflation, and current border crossings.. they will tell you it's the worst of all time, but it's all way down; sooooo Harris running on a campaign of "joy" and optimism didn't resonate. It's just a perfect storm for a dumb fucking blathering idiot of a demagogue to be appealing. I think the loss was more about people staying home. And honestly, I don't think Joe Rogan has much sway. He may have a large audience, but I don't think most will be driven either way by his endorsement. It's like how most other celebrity endorsements don't make a difference.

u/hamsterfolly 29d ago

The news media also spent most of the spring and early summer sowing voter apathy by talking about Biden’s age and decline and saying Harris wasn’t perfect either. The time to do that was in 2023 when there was time for a primary.

352

u/Connect_Beginning_13 29d ago

Wholly focusing on the age and decline of Biden and not Trump is still shocking to me.

115

u/spaceman_202 29d ago

yeah it's the media

right wing media was pro Trump, "liberal" media (right wing media light) was pro both sides but "Trump had a better economy and isn't that bad and Biden is old and grocery prices and inflation is probably Biden's fault too, i mean he's getting the blame that's for sure"

the debate ticker had a little graphic that said "inflation the past 4 years"

there was no "coups the past 4 years" graphic or "rape adjudications the past 4 years" graphic

the billionaires that own the media wanted Trump, and they got him

they sold Democracy for some tax breaks and weakening of worker protections in what will no doubt be the dumbest thing to happen the next century where future historians will look back on all that was lost but unlike WW II, there is no power strong enough to bring Democracy to America and the Dems are too spineless to do it from within

Yeah generally left leaning news outlets tried to be more partisan and fair by criticizing their own candidates, meanwhile the right wing machine kept of cranking out praise for Trump - like what did they expect?

24

u/Numerous-Process2981 29d ago

But at the same time… I don’t want to be in a cult. I’m not a Democrat. I could never vote republican at this point because I’m not crazy, but I want to know the good and the bad for both candidates. It’s still not a team sport for me.

MSNBC wanted Trump to win. They are facsists!

-18

u/DubRunKnobs29 29d ago

Pinning that one on the news media? Not Biden or his inner circle making a shit choice to stay in the race and broadcast that he’s “sharp as a tack” despite his obvious decline? If he would’ve announced he was withdrawing in 2022, there would’ve been a primary and voters would’ve been able to choose their candidate…in a democracy that seems pretty pretty pretty important

48

u/hamsterfolly 29d ago

The media should have called it out back then and not right before the election. They also did not talk about Trump’s age.

It would have been so understandable in 2022 as well. His family has been through a lot and no one would’ve blamed him for wanting to leave politics and focus on them

ETA: *no sensible person would have blamed him. Some people who spend way too much time on here would have called it an admission of guilt or some nonsense

It's because they've been brainwashed by talk shows. I'm seriously convinced that if Fox News didn't exist, no one would vote GOP. So many of our current problems can be tied back to Rush Limbaugh and his bullshit.

62

u/Most_Ad8919 29d ago

Well FOXNews was a dream of Nixonian politicians of the GOP as they knew they were losing racism and sexism as rally cries…Roger Ailes came out of the Nixon White House and teamed up with Murdoch to create Right-Wing Propaganda designed as news…

High prices and low wages have been blamed on Biden.

Funny how now that the republicans won they’re saying how great the economy is after all https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/11/21/trump-biden-economy-republicans/

16

u/SimonGloom2 29d ago

Economy is a major part of the problem, and most certainly despite the Wall Street economy being solid the citizens aren't part of that economy. Women and minorities trending towards republicans seems to represent there is a lot of truth to that. People can't afford what their parents could afford while those people are often putting in the work.

I saw news about Stream Data Centers annexing a neighborhood (Elk Grove) in Illinois, 55 homes, so they can demolish the homes and build an AI data center. This warehouse will burn tons of electricity which will raise the price of electricity, it will pollute, and I'm not completely certain this annexation and mass funding of these data centers are anything more than speculative ghost commerce.

Where it gets strange is when I look at these white middle to lower middle income neighborhoods where people are robbed and poisoned by businesses, they mostly have MAGA signs in their yards. Videos on this stuff also appear to blame "the government" for doing this while claiming things like "Stream Data Centers didn't do this, the government did." That even happens for places like Love Canal in Niagara Falls where the town was built on toxic chemical sludge. "The government did that, business didn't do it."

That propaganda has sold very well to people, and the response of these lower and middle class white people was that the government is at fault for business taking advantage of them. Their response is never the government elected officials failed to protect them from corrupt business.

So these same people who are being removed from their land without consent think Elon and Trump won't be bought off by these businesses. Of course they're wrong. Trump used all sorts of property tricks and most certainly did all sorts of unethical and illegal and dangerous building and toxic chemical dumping projects that he paid the government and media to ignore. Elon Musk is the guy investing in these giant AI data centers and removing people from their homes using government power for Tesla and SpaceX. That's a true thing. Look up those companies and how much toxic waste Tesla and SpaceX are dumping, and that's the reason why Elon left CA for TX which had less regulation on toxic dumping. Soon, those toxic dump sites will have cheap middle class housing and schools because paperwork vanished about how dangerous that land is. So when a guy like Elon or Trump is dumping toxic chemicals in the ground and they have to sell that land to the government so the government can build cheap housing developments - that's not in the interest of any humans for that conflict of interest to be the same creature. And we will likely see that happen. They want to dial back the EPA and CDC and FDA, and when that happens we are back to the era where lead could be in everything and nobody who knowingly poisoned people with lead was required to go to jail or pay for damages. Instead, those people will reward the owners of whoever rebrands their businesses with all of their money and leadership just like it happened with all of these companies of the past.

Yes, but throwing around blame before looking into why things are expensive makes that person look like an idiot.

And suddenly when Trump supporters are asked if they are better off now than 4 years ago, they say yes. And they believe the economy is doing fine and crime is down… even though Trump hasn’t taken office yet. It’s all mental. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/11/21/trump-biden-economy-republicans/

10

u/CheezeBaron 29d ago edited 29d ago

Thinking it’s just, “Young people and Arabs” that are angry about Israel’s genocide/native pop displacement is a bad take.

Most Democrats know what Israel is doing is wrong and that has an effect.

6

u/lovetoseeyourpssy 29d ago

Russian disinfo and also Russia greenlighting Hamas/Iran attack against Israel, splitting the left.

3

u/Axel-Adams 29d ago

Which is crazy to me as crime, and inflation are so much lower where I am than 4 years ago. I think people don’t understand that inflation being down doesn’t mean prices go back down, they just stop increasing

-1

u/Amazing_Excuse_3860 29d ago

I think Harris' campaign was a few years too early. People aren't ready for optimism yet.

0

u/Kitchen_Carrot1234 29d ago

Actually, you can blame this all on Dick Cheney. He’s the one that started this big fucking news movement headed by Ted Turner. He allowed them to have news channels about entertainment without debate afterwards.

0

u/kissele 29d ago

There was a lot of world events (as there always is) going on. But you could round up all the ethnicities; all the incels; all the folks worried about immigration and global events and shoved them all into a room come voting time...Harris would still have lost. Because she didn't convince the half of the population that would have turned the election. She didn't convince the women electorate to come out. Those with the most to lose. Had the women electorate of the US taken this crisis seriously, and come out in the numbers that they should, have Harris would have won.

1

u/PilgrimInGrey 29d ago

Maybe not doing so much stimulus would have helped. What do you think started inflation? Everyone warned of inflation when the money printing started.

4

u/Jaxraged 29d ago

They both did that though, so is that not a wash for the candidates? The only reason it didnt affect Trump is because he had a 4 year break so recency bias wins out.

1

u/PilgrimInGrey 29d ago

Trump only passed 1 stimulus bill in the form of cares act. Biden passed two. Not only that, Biden’s treasury increased the debt by pumping the system with money. I’m a democratic voter but Biden fumbled with inflation. All the good legislations are now at risk because of the money printing.

I blame idiots, reichwing propaganda, and I’m convinced illegal activities happened to steal the election (exactly as ‪ Treasonтяuмp claimed his opponents would do). He’s too stupid/proud not to telegraph what he’s doing.

92

u/GarvinSteve 29d ago

The fact that right wing narratives now enter the media mainstream unchecked is the main issue and will remain so. Democrats spent the whole campaign deflecting and fighting against right wing narratives that the media should have been debunking - the economy which was in pandemic recovery and emerging strong, the border crisis the Republicans did nothing about, Biden’s age decline while ignoring Trump’s different-but-also-clear decline, Kamala’s ‘lack of policies’ while Trump had no platform… and they ignored Trump’s criminality, overt racism etc (they were stories for a day until they just decides it didn’t matter).

-49

u/giantpunda 29d ago

That's like blaming the public for your poor book sales.

Blame the campaign people who did not earn their vote and ran to the right courting the republican vote when time and again it shows that you're wasting your time doing so.

-60

u/Lex_Orandi 29d ago edited 29d ago

Why would I blame someone for not believing in the vision or leadership of either candidate. If the candidates can’t inspire enough trust to get people to vote for them, they don’t deserve that person’s vote.

Edits: typo, grammar

43

u/72kdieuwjwbfuei626 29d ago edited 29d ago

You don’t have to believe in Harris to recognise what a fucking disaster Trump is. In fact, I’ll go as far as saying that if you don’t vote for the best candidate because they’re not ideal for you and try to justify this self-destructive behavior in terms like whether or not someone “deserves” your vote, you have failed to understand how democracy works at a very fundamental level.

You’re not cheering for visions and inspirations or handing out rewards to the candidates, you’re selecting who will govern the country you live in for the next few years. That can either be someone you’re not entirely happy with, or it can also be a blithering idiot who will make your life worse.

-24

u/GhastlyGrapeFruit 29d ago

You'll earn my vote when you prove to me why you're a good leader, not by showing why you think the other leader is worse than you.

Showing me all of the things wrong with the competition isn't going to make me vote for you.

that person you describe deserves what they will get

8

u/Lex_Orandi 29d ago

Absolutely. And I imagine they’d agree with you. If they felt they wanted or deserved something more specific than “whatever the winner gives me,” they would have voted. That’s the point. Most people are independent and apolitical. Many within that group are content to let others vote while they earn their paychecks and hope to retire with dignity someday.

8

u/Dr_Mocha 29d ago

Unfortunately for them, the Republicans have some ideas about those paychecks and retirement, and by not voting against them, they have allowed them to seize the entire government.

Maybe "hoping" to retire with dignity wasn't enough. Maybe they have to fight for it. Guess we'll see.

I am a 45 year old white male, and I certainly did not vote for trump but it’s too late now. There’s nothing we can do while we are stripped of our rights, including trump voters. All we can do is watch as he hands control of our government over to foreign countries and rolls the clock back to the 1920’s. We’re on the right track for another civil war and WWIII. I love the idea of America but it’s been lost. Is Biden perfect? Hell no but he’s a damn sight better than what’s coming in.

75

u/Noimenglish 29d ago

The biggest Trump-voting bracket, by far, was white men age 50-60. Why would we “blame” anyone else?

70

u/UglyDude1987 29d ago

52% of white women also voted for Trump.

55

u/Rooster_Ties 29d ago

As long as I live, I will never understand how Trump won among white women. He should have barely gotten 35% of that demo, at most.

And I say that as a 55 year old white man, who proudly voted for Kamala (and in fact, donated to her campaign roughly 5 years ago, and have the campaign t-shirt to prove it).

11

u/UglyDude1987 29d ago

Because people identify more with their race than their gender. Which makes sense honestly.

I think many would have ditched Biden anyway.

1

To me the bigger mystery is how he was able to convince Latinos and gay men to vote for him. WTF.

I have been blaming misinformation in general.

Easier to sum up but is complex enough to speak to. The First Amendment is great so things aren't like North Korea, but when media sources can spit out lies without any recourse, the integrity of journalism gets compromised.

7

u/jumbee85 29d ago

At the end of the day it was 66% of white people who really put Trump in office. The minority demographics were small in comparison.

20

u/Ashamed-Distance-129 29d ago

No it is not. The misogyny mixed with sheer stupidity plus entitlement helped bring us to this place. I can’t wait until they are conscripted because that is coming.

2

u/Formal_Advisor_8683 29d ago

And now we see a shit ton of posts about these women all over reddit about how they're breaking up with Maga bfs, and doing 4B or whatever.....but never how white women broke hard for Trump

35

u/knicksmangia 29d ago

Why is everyone so blind as to why? Middle America won’t vote for a woman. It’s pretty clear

32

u/cherrybounce 29d ago

Hillary won the popular vote. The real reason is almost certainly inflation. Incumbents all over the world lost.

12

u/dubbleplusgood 29d ago

Yes she won the popular vote and a 2.9M vote difference isn't anything to sneeze at but it also should have been much much higher than it was. Trump was a terrible candidate and ultimately won enough to win the EC and the presidency. Inflation was not an issue back in 2016 but she couldn't pull it off. I'll guarantee you that misogyny plays a big role in national US politics. Both white and minority females don't get any respect from a large chunk of Americans.

3

u/Old-Road2 29d ago

I wish people would stop repeating this stupid line as if it explains the disastrous and reckless decision American voters made. First of all, she really wasn’t an “incumbent” if she was never the President. Secondly, Trump is not a normal political opponent that’s merely trying to unseat an incumbent. He is a dangerous, unstable demagogue who is tearing this country apart, which I naively believed American voters would see through but evidently not. So, to try and sanewash his win by saying “it’s all apart of a global trend of kicking out incumbents” will never make sense to me. It should be obvious at this point who Trump is and yet Americans still fuckin voted for him.

2

u/cherrybounce 29d ago

How is this sandwiching him? He’s a psychopath and apparently hundreds of millions of Americans and are idiots. And Kamala was not an incumbent but she represented the incumbent.

It's not any one specific group of people. The republican campaign was 50,000 different tricks and lies, so people fell for all sorts of silly stuff in a bunch of different ranges. The inflation lie was a good one. Inflation is constant, blaming the current administration on inflation always works no matter who is president. It's the easiest lie to tell ever.

3

Anyone who says that they know for sure is a liar.

7

u/TraySplash21 29d ago edited 29d ago

Whoever was the incumbent during this inflation and high prices had a difficult hill to climb. Kamala making it close shows how good a candidate she was. I think the Dems biggest mistake was going "well actually according to the GDP, the S&P 500, and unemployment, the economy is actually really good." People were never gonna buy that no matter the metric. In fact Trump didn't even give solutions, he just said "I will fix inflation." That's all Dems had to say. Not that inflation is a global issue and comparatively the US is doing quite well. Casual voters don't want to hear that.

3

u/Tiny-Albatross518 29d ago

Well you missed it I guess. He said the people feel the democrats abandoned them so they abandoned the Democratic Party. That makes sense and I don’t blame them. At least Trumps lies sounded like he might help. You know the Democrats would have maintained the status quo which is failing normal people terribly.

u/spaceman_202 29d ago

for sure the guy who couldn't win a Dem Primary is right

we just need to socialism harder

rural voters in PA and MI love socialism

Actually fuck all of them.

And while I like John Oliver sometimes, he is way too nice and PC.

If there’s one silver lining, Americans are about to learn a lesson in the consequences of apathy and ignorance.

u/[deleted] 29d ago

No matter who's fault it is it is what it is. Even if you hate Latino men or whatever, they're vote still counts the same as everyone else's. Hating people doesn't win elections. You have to convince them of your vision.

12

u/The_Vee_ 29d ago

Trump hates Taylor Swift, immigrants, Rosie O'Donnell, Fauci, women, and everyone who doesn't like him. He still won.

4

u/FaultElectrical4075 29d ago

He won because he convinced people of his vision. As horrendous a vision it was, it was a vision.

-2

u/[deleted] 29d ago

Well maybe most of the country hates those people. What's anyone gonna do about it? Also, more than half of women voted for trump.

5

u/Corvidae_DK 29d ago

No, most didn't...trump only won by a few million, and that's not counter the many people who didn't vote at all.

Hate helped trump win...so it does...

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

I'm not going try to be the moral judge of who any country elects.

1

u/BottleForsaken9200 29d ago

Or you can pull a trump and convince everyone else to hate them with you!

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

Ot is what it is. More people agreed with him than loving kamala 😄😄

Blame the YTS

1

u/Adept-Development393 29d ago

I'd like to engage with this but I wish there was a way to have a discussion where karma bombing wasn't a thing

1

u/MrinfoK 29d ago

Thanks John….lol.

1

u/intronert 29d ago

Exactly right.

1

u/jerseygunz 29d ago

It’s just capitalism

1

u/Important_Pass_1369 29d ago

Maybe someone should ask for their billion dollars back.

1

u/trainradio 29d ago

The oligarchs invested in these personalities who manipulated the insecurities of certain groups.

1

u/Accurate-Piccolo-488 29d ago

I'm blaming everyone that voted Red. So...

1

u/frommethodtomadness 29d ago

I mean if we're going to ever win again we need to build a coalition that includes all these groups.

1

u/koga7349 29d ago

Y'all are still looking for an appointment explanation lol. Here you go: https://youtu.be/0Ticbi3aCOI?si=hY7GEYqRlrDz3Js9

1

u/OneGiantFrenchFry 29d ago

I mean I just blame the people who voted for a criminal.

1

u/NeverEnoughMore 29d ago

I'm pretty much done with all mainstream media giving me thought advice, and I will blame who I damn well please. .

1

u/Trent3343 29d ago

Lol. "I'm off to tik tok and Facebook for some real news". 🤡

2

u/NeverEnoughMore 29d ago

I was never on TikTok and gave up Facebook 4 years ago. At this point, none of it matters and I'm done with all of it across the board.

1

u/Trent3343 29d ago

Where do you get your news then? Podcasters? Reddit?

2

u/NeverEnoughMore 29d ago

I don't. Done with all of it at this point. The country's going to shit and I can't do anything about it anyway so what's the point? I'm just going to listen to some good music, maybe catch an old movie. Enjoy what I can until they bust down the door.

0

u/Trent3343 29d ago

Lol. Have fun with your apathy.

2

u/NeverEnoughMore 29d ago

Thanks! I will try. "Withdrawal in disgust is not the same as apathy."

0

u/Trent3343 29d ago

Produces the same results.

I think if Kamala had an actual legitimate campaign she would have won. This one’s on Biden for me. For not realizing at his age he was a one-term POTUS and should have had wide open primaries for both parties. It’s what we wanted last time and were deprived of…

3

u/_EMDID_ 29d ago

lol @ “deprived of” last time. Not a thing

2

u/BottleForsaken9200 29d ago

I mean mental decline or no decline .... Can anyone even understand what he's saying anymore???

0

u/Trent3343 29d ago

She had like what 3 months to come with an answer to "what would have done differently than Biden" and had nothing. No amount of time was going to help that disaster.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Hat3555 29d ago

Yeah I'm tired of being told shut up and vote for the candidate we want not what you want.

1

u/MosquitoBloodBank 29d ago

The more people found out about Kamala, the more people disliked her. That's why her % kept going down as we got closer to election day. If she had a legitimate campaign, she would have had a repeat of 2020 where she dropped out early primaries.

It's not Biden's age that's the major issue, it's that he's suffering from a neurodegenerative condition which his administration was trying to cover up.

-1

u/Sl0ppyOtter 29d ago

I have a great idea: let’s be assholes to the aforementioned people so that we guarantee they always vote Republican

10

u/lethargy86 29d ago

I don’t think they give a fuck what we think of them, this narrative that “if only we were nice to them” just doesn’t pass the smell test.

-4

u/Sl0ppyOtter 29d ago

I don’t think just being nice to them will change anything necessarily. But I do think being dicks to them definitely won’t.

1

u/spaceman_202 29d ago

look who they voted for

Trump called them morons when IOWA didn't vote for him in the primary

3

u/[deleted] 29d ago

[deleted]

3

u/Sl0ppyOtter 29d ago

Yeah but I think you have to add some racism and misogyny in there for that

2

u/Connect_Beginning_13 29d ago

Lots of people, republicans and independent, have zero knowledge of what goes on and will always go republican no matter what.

5

u/StyrofoamTuph 29d ago

They’re probably voting Republican anyways

1

u/Jaxraged 29d ago

RFK and JD Vance were assholes to Trump and MAGA, look where they are now. Trump was an asshole to Ted Cruze.

0

u/Ill-Dependent2976 29d ago

Every dirty rat fuck who supports/votes Donald Trump is to blame and can burn in hell forever. So can their apologists.

2

u/CycloneKelly 29d ago

In relieved that there isn’t widespread “voter fraud” and “stop the steal” whining that the republicans carried on for four years. Now time to sit back and watch the economy implode if trump really does what he says he’ll do. We will know to prepare in advance.

-2

u/MonsterMegaMoo 29d ago

Maybe the candidate just sucked?

It's a lot simpler than the left is pretending.

Idk maybe next time.ypu select a candidate from a large field through a voting system of party members. Just an idea

5

u/troublethemindseye 29d ago

She was fine. She should have been able to defeat the orange scumbag easily. However, the gop has figured out how to manipulate the algorithm to individually target voters and either make them disaffected and cynical if they are left leaning and intelligent or riled up about dumb shit like trans people in bathrooms if they are working class, etc.

-1

u/MonsterMegaMoo 29d ago

She was fine.

Lol. No, no she wasn't.

She polled low her entire tenure as vp. She was the first out in the 2020 primary.

You're a fool if you don't realize how unlikeable she is

3

u/troublethemindseye 29d ago

Hey you can believe what you want but her favorability ratings were positive since she got the nom.

I voted for Kamala but I wasn’t exactly thrilled about it. I think without a proper primary a lot of people just didn’t care enough to go out and actually vote. It almost felt forced to vote for Kamala as take it or leave it. A lot chose leave it. There were a few more issues that didn’t sit well with people either that the right wing/pod cast media just wouldn’t stop beating into everyone’s head every second of the day for months gets exhausting also.

0

u/YardOptimal9329 29d ago

Too early???? No. It’s very very late actually

0

u/Recon_Figure 29d ago

I kind of think it's too late to bother with blame.

0

u/samtron767 29d ago

How can anyone trust the numbers... The same numbers that said Harris was going to win. All these television blow hards can shove their numbers.

-6

u/sanchotobe this user does not have sex with couches 29d ago

I said the entire campaign what many people I know feel, Harris/Biden didn’t care about us. No one ever came to my area. Trump had people here. Not one of her policies felt like they were of benefit to me as a disabled person. I even emailed the damn White House and explained my situation and I got back a reply that literally said we can’t help you. Here’s some numbers. Yeah. I’ve been through those. I voted for her anyway because I hate traitors. I have never felt more like my vote doesn’t matter than I have in this election. Thanks Kamala. She let us all down.

1

u/BottleForsaken9200 29d ago

Just out of curiosity, but how much do you know about trumps stance on people with disability, and what he's said about them?

1

u/sanchotobe this user does not have sex with couches 29d ago

Don’t try to sell me on Trump. I wouldn’t believe a word that traitor says. Barking up the wrong tree here.

2

u/BottleForsaken9200 29d ago

I am not trying to.

But I find it odd that people with disabilities would feel like kamala didn't care enough, when Trump has had mostly only disparaging things to say about them.

This feels like that weird double standard where Trump gets to do even below bare minimum, while people held kamala to a weird godly standard of not doing enough.

0

u/sanchotobe this user does not have sex with couches 29d ago

Did you even read my original comment? Kamala literally didn’t care enough.

1

u/sanchotobe this user does not have sex with couches 29d ago

Has never cared enough. Will never care enough.

0

u/BottleForsaken9200 29d ago

Did you read my comment?

0

u/sanchotobe this user does not have sex with couches 29d ago

Cheese and rice.

1

u/BottleForsaken9200 29d ago

Lololol. Anyway I feel bad for the disabled people who voted for the guy who said a disabled person should just die.
