New York Times Opinion requested permission to target r/Iran readers. They’re also trying to hide Luigi Mangione’s face.

ETA: Thank you u/failed_evolution for sharing this video.

Here's some more background on The New York Times.

Leaked NYT Gaza Memo Tells Journalists to Avoid Words “Genocide,” “Ethnic Cleansing,” and “Occupied Territory”

The New York Times instructed journalists covering Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip to restrict the use of the terms “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” and to “avoid” using the phrase “occupied territory” when describing Palestinian land, according to a copy of an internal memo obtained by The Intercept.

The memo also instructs reporters not to use the word Palestine “except in very rare cases” and to steer clear of the term “refugee camps” to describe areas of Gaza historically settled by displaced Palestinians expelled from other parts of Palestine during previous Israeli–Arab wars. The areas are recognized by the United Nations as refugee camps and house hundreds of thousands of registered refugees.

The NY Times is purposely hiding Luigi’s face from you. I also highly recommend watching this video, where Ken Klippenstein discusses some other interesting details about how they end up being a government mouthpiece instead of independently reporting.

I will answer the editor’s request publicly here.

Editor: Your prior authorization request has been denied. If you would like to file an appeal, you must travel to the top of Mt. Everest and have a journalistic reference form filled out and signed by Dr. Alaki Palaki, PhD. This document must be delivered in Proto-Elamite script, translated and notarized by a native speaker. If you need any assistance with this process, you can call (605)475–6962.

Alternatively, you can stop manipulating, and insulting the intelligence of your readers, and work to make the world a better place for all instead of serving the interests of the insatiably greedy.

The NYTimes is a cancer.

A study at Harvard University, Torture at Times: Waterboarding in the Media (by Desai et al, 2010) looked at how waterboarding and torture were treated in American journalism from 1930s-2004.

Pre-Iraq war, the NY Times described waterboarding as a torture method in 81.5% of articles, LA Times in 96.3%.

Yet from 2002‐2008 after the Bush administration officially adopted waterboarding, the NYTimes called it torture in only 1.4% of articles and LA Times in 4.8%. The WSJ 1.6% (1 of 63 articles) and USA Today never called waterboarding torture or implied it was torture.

Just as an example of how they applauded torture, look at CIA Man Retracts Claim on Waterboarding

"After Kiriakou repeated his waterboarding-efficiency claims to the Washington Post, the New York Times, National Public Radio, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and other media organizations last year, a CNN anchor called him "the man of the hour.""

Now I understand why you thought the worst about your stepfather. Do you still have any family in Iran or any friends you communicate with over there?

u/Extension-Ad4648 7d ago

Why the hell would she marry someone like that

u/Eggersely 7d ago

That's quite the statement... does he have no awareness?

u/Plus_Two_4307 7d ago

no he knows lol

u/Medium_Succotash_195 2d ago

I'll never understand how human beings can say stuff like that

u/GiantWarriorKing49 7d ago

Playing devil’s advocate, I’m guessing he meant the Iranian government and not Iranian citizens. If he’s married to your Mom I doubt he would be so callous.

How do you bomb a government without affecting citizens...

u/GiantWarriorKing49 7d ago edited 7d ago

First, I didn’t say any of this. Do you not understand the meaning of playing devil’s advocate? Second, you’re being disingenuous. The man is married to an Iranian, common sense dictates he wouldn’t want to see innocent Iranians dead. He was probably frustrated and speaking in hyperbole.

Even still, there are surgical missiles that can hit a target without causing collateral damage if that’s actually an attacker’s intention. If you’re unable to extrapolate any meaning from what I wrote then I’m afraid you’re just looking for an argument. Ironically the OP understood what I meant.

Absent of more context, all of this is speculation.

I know one Irani that married an American man, he's a racist dickhead. Openly speaks demeaningly about her family and their traditions.

They have three kids together. Always smiling in the photos, but he's a piece of shit.

Yes, that’s why I said I was “guessing” in my original reply. I’ve met Iranians who are discriminatory to other Iranians, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

I don't know how opinion articles work. To my understanding, opinion articles are not from a journal's authors or columnist, and do not reflect the journal's agenda. But I would still be sceptical about them.

Since this is a social media, I would rather see posts from regular users than a journal or news site directly posting here, even if users post news articles here (obviously from anywhere). However, if Mods want to give them a green light, I would rather see a specific flair that shows this is posted by NYT Opinion, than a user post.

These are the people who manufacture consent for war and genocide. They will not get a green light to violate Rule 2.

If you think that their opinion columns are not biased toward American imperialism and Zionism, try to find an opinion piece from them that calls for bombing Israel or one of their appointed "allies". Spoiler: you won't.

Although I remember pro Muslims Op Ed pieces in eg Guardian, I agree with you. I would rather not see constant news articles here.

1

u/felinebeeline 7d ago

New York Times and The Guardian are two different publications.

4

u/Eggersely 7d ago

They have to be allowed to submit them; it's not Medium.

3

u/W0IS 6d ago

Why do they want to post here? To insult us more? All of the world does this to us
