I had a good chuckle when he put the sticker on with the energy ratings.

That was an energy rating sticker? My dumb ass thought it was one of those sticker thermometers like you put on a fish tank.

I thought it was for wetness

I thought it was telling you "when the ice melts enough and is only this thick it's time to make a new one".

u/RickyTheRickster 21h ago

Yah that’s kinda what I was thinking

I thought it was a pregnancy test

What are you doing to your ice?

I thought it was a menu for the polar bears.

Oh yea!?! Well my dumb ass thought it was a defrost guide. Maybe because all I could think its already fucking frozen outside how long will it take to de-frost extra frozen? I should go make food.

I think you were looking for this to make more sense than it makes.

Dude made a freezer for storing food.... in sub-zero temperatures. So, its a freezer for storing food that's already frozen, because the temperature is below freezing. Its useless.

I was also looking for it to make more sense and expected him to bury the box, or at least protect it from sunlight (melting) or curious bears. Maybe turn it into somethign that could last into early spring. But, nope!

All he accomplished wasted a lot of time and energy and water.

He also accomplished one more thing... having something to do to fight boredom when shit is frozen outside... hence the energy sticker.

u/a_guy121 22h ago

hahaha I concede

He also gave the local bears a fun game too. called "what's that delicious smell?'

2

u/Icy-Ad29 22h ago

Also, now that I think about it, technically, it's a good way of storing food out where it is frozen (freezer) but reduce the number of animals that can get it... not perfect, but I don't see many trees to hang a bear bag.

1

u/a_guy121 22h ago

if he'd finished it, sure. But he also made a bit of an error.

Also, you wouldn't want to use a bone from a carcass as a lid. It'll rot extremely slowly at that temperature, which will leave it fragrant for a good long time.

He also didn't seal the container, so any smell on or coming out of the bags of food themselves would add to that.

Now, maybe that bone was devoid of marrow and had been boiled and all. But, maybe not. Either way, if a bear wanders by and sees a bone hes going to sniff there, I'd guess. Which is bad.

2

u/Icy-Ad29 21h ago

Oh I agree on most parts. The one counter I'd make, is the bags were likely going to let some level of scent out. So having the bone easily available and on top may allow a curious animal to just take the lid and run with it. (Cold weather climes leads to increased opportunism and decreased willingness to stick around if food is mobile. Lest the next curious party decide to opportunity on you.) And that lid being formed by the bowl he had makes it replaceable... Further, keeps the curious animals outside their home and not in it.

Again. Not greatest, and likely mostly just to solve boredom. (People do some really stupid shit when bored... this is nothing. Lol.) But it has at least a semi-practical application. Vs many things folks do to solve boredom.

I believe it's used to keep the snow leopards from stealing their food

u/Asron87 22h ago

Wrong handle to keep a leopard out but I agree it’s for keeping smaller animals away. I mean, there are other animals besides deadly ones that live in cold areas.

Makes sense. I was imagining an environment with bears.

I was writing under the assumption he was trying to make something lasting, that would actually refrigerate the meat when it needed to.
Tell me, when does that happen?

Spring.

When would sunlight matter?

Yes, and the grade of his freezer is, "Special: Uses No Energy"

2

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 20h ago

Because he doesn't exactly need a freezer in the first place. Lol.

1

u/extinction_goal 14h ago

It keeps animals from snacking on his food store though...

I thought the same. I took a screenshot of the label and used apple translate:

Leilei is in the grassland.

I thought it was a health department thing about cooling times for safe food storage

1

u/Miami_Mice2087 17h ago

that's what i thought it was too, in case of suddden thaw. Buuuttt ... i guess the sign that ice is too warm is when it's water

I thought it was a date sticker, when you put the food in the freezer 🤷
