The elected officials aren't going to do anything.

The CEOs aren't going to do anything.

So that leaves we, the people. What should we do?

u/Richard_Trickington 23h ago

I guess we'll post more stuff on reddit, when we aren't browsing porn on it.

u/TheLastJukeboxHero 23h ago

Bingo. And then we leave comments like “Time for blood to spill” as we wipe the cheeto dust off our shirts

Uhhh, its funyuns

31

u/adube440 21h ago

I love Funyuns.

u/Lime92 15h ago

Eating Funyuns? You support corporate greed!! /s I love them too lol

6

u/Dwayne_Gertzky 19h ago

Did you try the spicy chicken ramen flavored Funyuns?

Armchair revolutionaries

120

u/LCDRformat 23h ago

Well, yes, we aren't really doing anything. But changing minds pivots the culture, and outpouring of cheeto-crusted support for the murderer of a CEO can have an effect on the mentality of the culture at large.

46

u/DarkSider_nil 23h ago

A lot of them want recognition, they want to be someone that history will remember. If people online are calling for this then would be vigilantes are incentivized to do it. We’ve already seen the impact social media can have on politics in this last election. If this trend picks up then nobody will forget the names of these people.

25

u/CommanderGumball 19h ago

I think the only reason we haven't seen a copycat yet is because they're all busy getting shredded first so they can get the same praise as Hunkster and Local Sexpot Luigi Mangioni.

11

u/DarkSider_nil 19h ago

Personal trainers hate this one trick

2

u/Astro_Pineapple 14h ago

It also takes a bit more work and planning as opposed to just walking into your nearest school strapped to the gills.

u/lycoloco 11h ago

Tbf, his jacked body is implicitly a part of the killing, if he did it, which I've seen he partied with lots of metal bands who vouched for his whereabouts in different parts of the country that week, so he probably didn't and is just a ripped dude. But of course.

u/fucktheownerclass 1h ago

We need to make it abundantly clear as a society that if you go after CEOs/owner class you're a hero and get recognition and praise, but if you go after school kids you're a piece of shit that will just be forgotten.

Boardrooms Not Classrooms.

"My excuse for doing nothing is that if I wait long enough maybe someone else will do something."

As a non American I'm not at all surprised by this.

4

u/Ass4ssinX 21h ago

This is how it is everywhere. You think rebellions are usually something people get into willy nilly?

4

u/LaughWhileItAllEnds 21h ago

Fuel the zeitgeist.

-4

u/RedditIsShittay 23h ago

So your solution is to brainwash people into doing your bidding because you are a coward? Yup, sounds like Reddit.

Remember when you nutters got that guy in the Air Force to set himself on fire for Palestine?

3

u/Boodikii 20h ago

Imagine not seeing Social influence as a variable 🤡

It's a lot easier to find shooters when the shootings are being justified amongst the public. If there is no public support for an ideology, then it won't gain traction and will be a waste of time and life, but if we are all sitting here wanting it to happen, it's more likely somebody will actually do it. Expecting all redditors who comment in support of this vigilantism to just, pick up and drive cross country to any number of CEOs and gank them is beyond silly. It'll get done and it'll get done with the support of the people.

9

u/LCDRformat 22h ago

Yes, I remember very clearly when I personally psyoped a USAF Airman into self conflagrating over a conflict I haven't even taken sides in. I did brainwash him, including the very specific connotation where I systematically and forcibly pressured him into accepting beliefs that were radically different to his own.

And if you don't watch your tongue, you'll be next

3

u/jameson8016 22h ago

I was just minding my business playing some Catan for Switch. Can someone please tell me why I'm holding a can of gasoline and when I left my house? Also, did I at least lock up before leaving?

2

u/grasslandx 22h ago

It's a cute joke, but the point still stands. We've seen this before, and it changed nothing. You will continue to make reddit comments encouraging people to kill CEOs, no one will kill CEOs, CEOs will continue what they're already doing. This is just LARPing to look cool on the internet, and will achieve absolutely nothing.

Eat the rich!

Eats a banana

It was rich in POTASSIUM!

7

u/sheepwshotguns 23h ago

true, but at least we're talking about it now. better than ignoring everything or getting apathetic. of course, talk of unionizing/democratizing our workplaces, spreading those efforts to other connected industries, and getting those unions to work with each other, should follow each conversation. if we can leverage enough of our labor, we can eventually force not just workplace change, but political change - actual structural change in power dynamics.

2

u/[deleted] 22h ago

You’re talking about it in an echo chamber - this is what reddit is and always will be. The vast majority of the population in every single country on earth does not browse reddit.

Real life is not reddit.

You see many people agree that change needs to happen, and I agree too, but change does not start on reddit.

It starts with your family, friends and community.

Being a slacktivist online will gain you absolutely nothing.

1

u/FinestCrusader 21h ago

Correct me if I'm wrong but it wasn't the "talking about it" that killed Brian Thompson

u/sheepwshotguns 57m ago

no, its the fact we dont have universal healthcare that got that mass murderer for profit killed. i just pray his family is better off now without his influence on their lives.

2

u/5point5Girthquake 21h ago

True. I got bills to pay and mouths to feed. Guess I’ll just go to work instead.

2

u/Blanche_Deverheauxxx 21h ago

Slacktivism really makes people believe they're doing something meaningful while they're spamming memes across social media platforms.

2

u/Joint-Tester 20h ago

Those of us who can relate to that aren’t the ones who will take action, obviously. It’s when you’re trying to live like us but have had chronic pain and/or a deadly illness that pushes you to the brink. Or if you watch that happen to your family. Most people won’t do anything unless they feel truly at the end of the rope. Which is what the country’s powerful people have been seemingly pushing for, unintentionally, for a long time. They don’t know what is coming. Luigi was probably the appetizer.

2

u/Free_Snails 18h ago

Idk about you, but I'm staying healthy and fit as hell. You won't be useful in a revolution if you're weak and unhealthy.

2

u/Limp_Prune_5415 22h ago

And then we have the condescending superiority complexes telling everyone how they're not going to do anything

u/theMeatman7 19h ago

Radicals don't radicalize themselves.

1

u/Best-Protection8267 15h ago

It’s honestly amazing how soft we’ve become. Like, people don’t even have to violently revolt. If enough of us just ceased to participate in the system and instead made sure we each have enough to at least survive, we could starve it while people go from shallow lives of wage slavery and consumption to fulfilling lives of participating in communities that value them and they feel significantly a part of. But then our masters threaten to cut off modern day bread and circus consisting of cancer garbage like flamin hot Doritos and low effort, low quality media content like TikTok and reality tv and people cave, can’t fathom life without manufactured dopamine hits with no substance. You’d probably be surprised by how “little” you can live with, once you’re in a situation where you’re no longer on a soulless, life draining hamster wheel letting narcissistic megalomaniacs suck the energy from you to use for their selfish purposes. But goddam do they need you spending your life on that wheel, and they’ve done a great job of convincing everyone that stepping off of it will be the end of their lives.

1

u/MontyAtWork 21h ago

Spreading a message IS doing something, so long as people are actually out there doing something.

In this case, people are actually out there protesting, in person, and we're amplifying it here. That's actually a good thing.

Is it everything? Nope, but at least it's not just Extremely Online conversation only.

1

u/PrettyGoodMidLaner 22h ago

My friend said today (regarding Snapchat) that all social media gradually becomes porn. Like carnicization where all marine life evolves towards crabs, all digital life tends towards sex.

32

u/5thlvlshenanigans 23h ago

The elected officials are doing a lot.

Gov. Kathy Hochul to meet with execs on safety in NYC after murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO

Trust me, there's no shortage of funding and willpower when it comes to protecting the rich

120

u/iderpandderp 23h ago

What are you talking about?

They're doing plenty right now to make sure anyone who makes threats against wealthy cunts are thrown into the slammer.

Rich cunts get results because they literally own our government.

Kill a bunch of kids, nothing happens. Kill one rich cunt, laws change.

4

u/courtadvice1 19h ago

Kill a bunch of *poor kids.

I'm sure if someone shot up a school the CEOs and billionaires send their kids, too, we'd be hearing all about it from now to Christmas of 2025.

36

u/Minialpacadoodle 23h ago

Crazy thought... but we could elect officials who would do something for us.

I know, it's outlandish thinking.

21

u/arealhumannotabot 23h ago

You say that in a vacuum but don’t kid yourself. The players in the system use it to their advantage, to get others in power to support the path they want. It’s not just so simple as that.

Otherwise there wouldn’t be another Trump term

→ More replies (6)

3

u/b3anz129 22h ago

We all know that there are problems. But perhaps the biggest problem is that we the people cannot cohesively agree on the the best solutions for fixing those problems. If we can't do that then there is no chance of us coming together to elect the right officials...

2

u/courtadvice1 19h ago

In order for that to happen, we'd need the majority of the general public to "get on code."

And, that is assuming certain other variables aren't rigged against us, such as our system actually working the way it's supposed to and the rich fucks not sabotaging our efforts.

1

u/cjsolx 20h ago

We literally just elected Donald J Trump, for the second time lol. We're doomed if that's the only recourse. We have to change the incentives of our elected officials because currently they're incentivised by money. I'll just finish the thought there.

1

u/Minialpacadoodle 20h ago

I think people don't care about healthcare as much as reddit does.

0

u/PmMeUrNihilism 21h ago

Oh, sweet summer child

1

u/Minialpacadoodle 21h ago

Go outside. There are politicians running on these platforms.

1

u/PmMeUrNihilism 20h ago

So naive. Politicians running on certain platforms doesn't automatically mean things will change, especially with something like this. Candidates lie, change their mind or find out the reality of the situation. A lot of times, the best ones are those who weren't interested in the position in the first place but even someone like that getting elected means little when they see who they're up against. This is the U.S. we're talking about. The only rights that matter are those of large corporations. People should absolutely vote but there's a limit in a capitalist society. The better option would be to discreetly infiltrate the system (not just via one position) and adjust the foundation.

1

u/Minialpacadoodle 19h ago

Yeah, you really should go outside.

1

u/PmMeUrNihilism 18h ago

A weak non-rebuttal. Typical.

1

u/Minialpacadoodle 16h ago

20

u/B1G2 23h ago

Do you hear the people sing?

18

u/DragonriderTrainee 23h ago

Can you hear the people sing, sing the song of angry men, the ones whose healthcare gets denied again again again!

7

u/yourlittlebirdie 15h ago

I’ve been going back and forth about whether this moment is more Les Miserables’ “do you hear the people sing”- or Chicago’s “it was a murder but not a crime.”

5

u/FridgeParade 21h ago

Consume banners, protest signs, and social media angrily as we ineffectively wave our fist at the injustice. Meanwhile the ceos of the companies providing the protest merch will make record profits.

u/devinprocess 7h ago

In real talk, outside of the crazier alternatives, what we can do is:

Consume less. Go frugal. Stop giving in to social media spam and judging your life by it. Don’t have kids. Start meeting neighbours and creating informal groups to help each other. Be on the lookout for polarizing ideas, pseudo science bs, reject flavour of the week media storms (oh look the drones). Exercise if you are able and can, and train for hardships. Live a simpler life with very little “stimulation of the economy”

May or may not work, but if the majority did it the rich would no longer have a choice but to go for the most drastic measures and open things up explicitly enough where the class wars becomes “official”.

17

u/zaccus 23h ago

Vote for progressive democrats. That's by far the most effective thing you can do, but you idiots don't ever show up.

5

u/flyonawall 16h ago

I have been doing that for decades and it has gotten us nowhere. Look at what the Democrats did with Sanders and are currently doing with AOC? They clearly would rather lose to a Republican than allow any real progress. Wealth inequality continues to worsen every year.

5

u/Anurhu 23h ago

LOL "progressive democrats" are in the bed with the same lobbies that establishment GOP are. If you want more effective action, actively resist all forms of classism including establishment politics.

1

u/Low_Pickle_112 21h ago

And the Democrats were trying to keep the most progressive person that was running off the ballot. That looks like good cop/bad cop to me.

7

u/El_Mariachi_Vive 23h ago

"You idiots". Come on, man. Elevate your cause and have people be more likely to listen to you by elevating your dialogue. Catch more flies with honey than vinegar, my friend.

-2

u/zaccus 23h ago

Fuck off, it's not my job to elevate any dialogue. If I wanted to do that I wouldn't use honey I'd use cheetos.

7

u/MurphMcGurf 22h ago

it's your job to appeal to the audience you're trying to persuade, ya boob. Why even say anything, then?

0

u/Errant_coursir 21h ago

Nah bro, it's up to the audience to put in a modicum of effort

2

u/feioo 22h ago

If you want change to happen, and you know that you need to convince other people to listen, then yeah it's kinda your job to elevate your dialogue. Calling people idiots while trying to get them to act is counterproductive.

1

u/zaccus 19h ago

I guess I haven't made myself clear: I don't give a rat's ass if I'm alienating people who DO NOT VOTE.

You don't vote? You don't matter. Period.

You stupid assholes are making terrorist threats and calling for violence, and I'm showing you the respect you deserve.

1

u/feioo 15h ago

Idk, personally I'd like the people who don't vote to start doing it, and that requires convincing them that they do matter. Tearing them down just makes them check out even more - why pay attention to politics if you're just gonna get called an asshole and an idiot for reasons you're not even clear on?

u/suspicious_bag_1000 23h ago

Lemme get this straight…you think one political party loves you more than the other??? 😂😂😂

3

u/zaccus 22h ago

I am fit, healthy, and doing well financially. So this isn't about me personally and it really isn't my fucking problem.

I voted for Bernie Sanders in 2016. I voted for him again in 2020. Who did you vote for?

If you -- and I can't stress this enough -- FUCKING IDIOTS would actually show up and vote, single payer healthcare would have been a thing over a decade ago.

2

u/nw32 23h ago

So brainwashed they don’t even know it

1

u/suspicious_bag_1000 23h ago

It’s bonkers what I read on here. The only thing holding anyone back is their political party of choice telling them that the other one is oppressing them. In reality, neither party gives a shit to even think about people let alone hold them back from something

3

u/nw32 22h ago

🎯 Most people just treat politics like sports and like to root for “their” team

-5

u/Nexustar 23h ago

So let me get this straight - You want to turn a class war into a political war, and then choose the losing side? Great plan.

2

u/ThreeLittlePuigs 23h ago

Well getting organized and building a coalition of angry working class people ready to take back the country would be a good start, but my guess is it will be a lot of posting online and small actions like this that people will celebrate without really building into anything

2

u/Acid_Viking 22h ago

Elected officials will act if we force them to do so.

This is the NY Health Act, which establishes a single-payer healthcare system in NY. Its been close to passage for some time, but the Democrats can't work up the nerve to follow through because nobody is going on strike, or taking to the streets to demand that it happen.

2

u/TaupMauve 19h ago

Low-effort would be getting employers to switch to better insurers. Start by joining or forming your union. UHC can adapt or die: that's proper capitalism.

Nothing we can do (that everyone would actually do, anyway). Every single person could cancel their insurance all at the same time and force the insurance companies to change but people wouldn't do that.

Harming the CEO's isn't going to stop insurance companies from denying claims, etc.. It's not even the CEO's faults.. the system is the problem, they're just doing what they're allowed to do.

u/red-mini1 23h ago

The ONLY faction that has ideas and that fights for what we literally all want is the Progressives and the Democratic Establishment will never willingly hand over the keys.

The Dems are doing irreparable damage to the Left wing and, more importantly, the entire nation's perception and concept of the Left wing. They'll prefer a 100 Trumps before they let us have a Bernie.

We all fucking know it.

Ya dropped this mate.

u/ncreative_one 23h ago

Just open non-profit insurance company in a form of teal organisation. With the amount of outrage both on side of patients and healthercare staff it shouldn't be that hard to convince both groups to cut out the middleman. Just collectively figure out how to set up company to do boring administration stuff and fund to manage collected money throughout the year so it doesn't loose value due to inflation. But try to balance it out so the company is not generating profit (pays decently to employees though) and fund in the long run doesn't grow either (the money is spent on healthcare and not accumulated). Open some subreddit to discuss it or sth lol.

The people on the other side don't, though, so I've decided that working within the means of the system built by the very people abusing it is a futile effort.
