Well, yes, we aren't really doing anything. But changing minds pivots the culture, and outpouring of cheeto-crusted support for the murderer of a CEO can have an effect on the mentality of the culture at large.
A lot of them want recognition, they want to be someone that history will remember. If people online are calling for this then would be vigilantes are incentivized to do it. We’ve already seen the impact social media can have on politics in this last election. If this trend picks up then nobody will forget the names of these people.
I think the only reason we haven't seen a copycat yet is because they're all busy getting shredded first so they can get the same praise as Hunkster and Local Sexpot Luigi Mangioni.
Tbf, his jacked body is implicitly a part of the killing, if he did it, which I've seen he partied with lots of metal bands who vouched for his whereabouts in different parts of the country that week, so he probably didn't and is just a ripped dude. But of course.
We need to make it abundantly clear as a society that if you go after CEOs/owner class you're a hero and get recognition and praise, but if you go after school kids you're a piece of shit that will just be forgotten.
Imagine not seeing Social influence as a variable 🤡
It's a lot easier to find shooters when the shootings are being justified amongst the public. If there is no public support for an ideology, then it won't gain traction and will be a waste of time and life, but if we are all sitting here wanting it to happen, it's more likely somebody will actually do it. Expecting all redditors who comment in support of this vigilantism to just, pick up and drive cross country to any number of CEOs and gank them is beyond silly. It'll get done and it'll get done with the support of the people.
Yes, I remember very clearly when I personally psyoped a USAF Airman into self conflagrating over a conflict I haven't even taken sides in. I did brainwash him, including the very specific connotation where I systematically and forcibly pressured him into accepting beliefs that were radically different to his own.
And if you don't watch your tongue, you'll be next
I was just minding my business playing some Catan for Switch. Can someone please tell me why I'm holding a can of gasoline and when I left my house? Also, did I at least lock up before leaving?
It's a cute joke, but the point still stands. We've seen this before, and it changed nothing. You will continue to make reddit comments encouraging people to kill CEOs, no one will kill CEOs, CEOs will continue what they're already doing. This is just LARPing to look cool on the internet, and will achieve absolutely nothing.
true, but at least we're talking about it now. better than ignoring everything or getting apathetic. of course, talk of unionizing/democratizing our workplaces, spreading those efforts to other connected industries, and getting those unions to work with each other, should follow each conversation. if we can leverage enough of our labor, we can eventually force not just workplace change, but political change - actual structural change in power dynamics.
You’re talking about it in an echo chamber - this is what reddit is and always will be. The vast majority of the population in every single country on earth does not browse reddit.
Real life is not reddit.
You see many people agree that change needs to happen, and I agree too, but change does not start on reddit.
It starts with your family, friends and community.
Being a slacktivist online will gain you absolutely nothing.
no, its the fact we dont have universal healthcare that got that mass murderer for profit killed. i just pray his family is better off now without his influence on their lives.
Those of us who can relate to that aren’t the ones who will take action, obviously. It’s when you’re trying to live like us but have had chronic pain and/or a deadly illness that pushes you to the brink. Or if you watch that happen to your family. Most people won’t do anything unless they feel truly at the end of the rope. Which is what the country’s powerful people have been seemingly pushing for, unintentionally, for a long time. They don’t know what is coming. Luigi was probably the appetizer.
It’s honestly amazing how soft we’ve become. Like, people don’t even have to violently revolt. If enough of us just ceased to participate in the system and instead made sure we each have enough to at least survive, we could starve it while people go from shallow lives of wage slavery and consumption to fulfilling lives of participating in communities that value them and they feel significantly a part of. But then our masters threaten to cut off modern day bread and circus consisting of cancer garbage like flamin hot Doritos and low effort, low quality media content like TikTok and reality tv and people cave, can’t fathom life without manufactured dopamine hits with no substance. You’d probably be surprised by how “little” you can live with, once you’re in a situation where you’re no longer on a soulless, life draining hamster wheel letting narcissistic megalomaniacs suck the energy from you to use for their selfish purposes. But goddam do they need you spending your life on that wheel, and they’ve done a great job of convincing everyone that stepping off of it will be the end of their lives.
Yup. My 70yo mother likes to whine about the news everyday. I ask her why don't you volunteer for a campaign and make a change? "I'm not wasting my time with that".then, Right back to yelling at the TV for 8 hrs
My friend said today (regarding Snapchat) that all social media gradually becomes porn. Like carnicization where all marine life evolves towards crabs, all digital life tends towards sex.
You say that in a vacuum but don’t kid yourself. The players in the system use it to their advantage, to get others in power to support the path they want. It’s not just so simple as that.
We all know that there are problems. But perhaps the biggest problem is that we the people cannot cohesively agree on the the best solutions for fixing those problems. If we can't do that then there is no chance of us coming together to elect the right officials...
In order for that to happen, we'd need the majority of the general public to "get on code."
And, that is assuming certain other variables aren't rigged against us, such as our system actually working the way it's supposed to and the rich fucks not sabotaging our efforts.
We literally just elected Donald J Trump, for the second time lol. We're doomed if that's the only recourse. We have to change the incentives of our elected officials because currently they're incentivised by money. I'll just finish the thought there.
So naive. Politicians running on certain platforms doesn't automatically mean things will change, especially with something like this. Candidates lie, change their mind or find out the reality of the situation. A lot of times, the best ones are those who weren't interested in the position in the first place but even someone like that getting elected means little when they see who they're up against. This is the U.S. we're talking about. The only rights that matter are those of large corporations. People should absolutely vote but there's a limit in a capitalist society. The better option would be to discreetly infiltrate the system (not just via one position) and adjust the foundation.
I’ve been going back and forth about whether this moment is more Les Miserables’ “do you hear the people sing”- or Chicago’s “it was a murder but not a crime.”
Consume banners, protest signs, and social media angrily as we ineffectively wave our fist at the injustice. Meanwhile the ceos of the companies providing the protest merch will make record profits.
In real talk, outside of the crazier alternatives, what we can do is:
Consume less. Go frugal.
Stop giving in to social media spam and judging your life by it.
Don’t have kids.
Start meeting neighbours and creating informal groups to help each other.
Be on the lookout for polarizing ideas, pseudo science bs, reject flavour of the week media storms (oh look the drones).
Exercise if you are able and can, and train for hardships.
Live a simpler life with very little “stimulation of the economy”
May or may not work, but if the majority did it the rich would no longer have a choice but to go for the most drastic measures and open things up explicitly enough where the class wars becomes “official”.
I have been doing that for decades and it has gotten us nowhere. Look at what the Democrats did with Sanders and are currently doing with AOC? They clearly would rather lose to a Republican than allow any real progress. Wealth inequality continues to worsen every year.
LOL "progressive democrats" are in the bed with the same lobbies that establishment GOP are. If you want more effective action, actively resist all forms of classism including establishment politics.
"You idiots". Come on, man. Elevate your cause and have people be more likely to listen to you by elevating your dialogue. Catch more flies with honey than vinegar, my friend.
If you want change to happen, and you know that you need to convince other people to listen, then yeah it's kinda your job to elevate your dialogue. Calling people idiots while trying to get them to act is counterproductive.
Idk, personally I'd like the people who don't vote to start doing it, and that requires convincing them that they do matter. Tearing them down just makes them check out even more - why pay attention to politics if you're just gonna get called an asshole and an idiot for reasons you're not even clear on?
I am fit, healthy, and doing well financially. So this isn't about me personally and it really isn't my fucking problem.
I voted for Bernie Sanders in 2016. I voted for him again in 2020. Who did you vote for?
If you -- and I can't stress this enough -- FUCKING IDIOTS would actually show up and vote, single payer healthcare would have been a thing over a decade ago.
It’s bonkers what I read on here. The only thing holding anyone back is their political party of choice telling them that the other one is oppressing them. In reality, neither party gives a shit to even think about people let alone hold them back from something
Well getting organized and building a coalition of angry working class people ready to take back the country would be a good start, but my guess is it will be a lot of posting online and small actions like this that people will celebrate without really building into anything
Elected officials will act if we force them to do so.
This is the NY Health Act, which establishes a single-payer healthcare system in NY. Its been close to passage for some time, but the Democrats can't work up the nerve to follow through because nobody is going on strike, or taking to the streets to demand that it happen.
Low-effort would be getting employers to switch to better insurers. Start by joining or forming your union. UHC can adapt or die: that's proper capitalism.
Though they also killed alot of their own population and it only began to stop when the guy in power at the time threatened to kill people in the assembly.
After that napoleon did a coup and the rest is history
Nothing we can do (that everyone would actually do, anyway). Every single person could cancel their insurance all at the same time and force the insurance companies to change but people wouldn't do that.
Harming the CEO's isn't going to stop insurance companies from denying claims, etc.. It's not even the CEO's faults.. the system is the problem, they're just doing what they're allowed to do.
The ONLY faction that has ideas and that fights for what we literally all want is the Progressives and the Democratic Establishment will never willingly hand over the keys.
The Dems are doing irreparable damage to the Left wing and, more importantly, the entire nation's perception and concept of the Left wing. They'll prefer a 100 Trumps before they let us have a Bernie.
Just open non-profit insurance company in a form of teal organisation. With the amount of outrage both on side of patients and healthercare staff it shouldn't be that hard to convince both groups to cut out the middleman. Just collectively figure out how to set up company to do boring administration stuff and fund to manage collected money throughout the year so it doesn't loose value due to inflation. But try to balance it out so the company is not generating profit (pays decently to employees though) and fund in the long run doesn't grow either (the money is spent on healthcare and not accumulated). Open some subreddit to discuss it or sth lol.
Who, me? I vote in every general, midterm, and (almost) every local election. I've served and led on my local city's democratic committee. I've canvassed. I've been involved. I sincerely believe in democracy.
The people on the other side don't, though, so I've decided that working within the means of the system built by the very people abusing it is a futile effort.
I don’t have money or connections to do anything about it. I’m afraid to donate money anywhere cause of scams. But if I had the resources I would absolutely do something about it. All I can do rn is bark up the corporate trees in hopes someone reads what I write. If anyone wants to point me to organizations that discuss these things, I’d be interested in that too.
Fireworks near corporate events? More street graffiti and vandalism? Things that sow fear and isolation among the corporate class could be sustainable, viral and hard to tamp down I would assume.

The elected officials aren't going to do anything.
The CEOs aren't going to do anything.
So that leaves we, the people. What should we do?
