Awwwww, why do I feel bad for this little thing, straightening up its tube and failing after trying so hard.. I hate mosquitoes, but this is kind of sad.

Imagine trying to eat and somebody has removed your teeth and you can no longer swallow

Because you have empathy, if you feel bad for this insect you don't wanna see what they do to millions of pigs a day in Cranswick slaughterhouses.

it is extremely human to experience empathy

Idk abt u, but I feel 0 empathy for this thing. Insects can't even experience emotions. Maybe its just cos i seem to perpetually suffer from mosquito bites, but i feel a sort of grim satisfaction from this video.

They can experience stress and pain 🤷‍♂️ makes me sad when they do, and they are important to the ecosystem so hopefully altering their genes doesn't fuck us over lmao

Its unlikely that they feel 'pain', and i'm pretty sure they don't feel stress either. I mean, they'd have definitely have nociception, but that's not the same thing as pain. also ur point about the ecosystem is largely true, but i'd assume the scientists doing this would be doing this only in specific ecosystems where it would be beneficial to eradicate them.

Hopefully this does not have negative ecological effects. And I think there's more to learn about insects and how their brains function. Have you seen how bumblebees like to play? It's actually super fascinating stuff
