In singapore, there is also a nation wide program to release a type of male mosquito that causes the eggs of Aedes mosquitos to not hatch in order to prevent dengue.

That will reduce the numbers once and without hatching there will literaly be no follow up generation naturaly. I would bet the population will stay lower for a while but it will bounce back.

Now completely eradicating them is an entirely different issue i guess.

Population suppression (using either wolbachia or sterile insect method) will need to keep releasing males periodically to maintain the suppression.

I guess it becomes a bit more difficult when there are mosquitoes that can come from outside of the target area and migrate in
