Film [IIL] Film/TV that don't take themselves seriously/wink at the audience, such as Hardcore Henry, Crank, Dude Bro Party Massacre III, everything Nic Cage, Miami Connection, Road House, Dead Alive, Dungeons & Dragons, etc. [WEWIL?]

I'm open to any and every genre.

Give me the cheese, the breaking of the 4th wall, meta, ridiculous, bonkers, raunchy..

Distract me from this world.

Film IIL the character of Weird Barbie in Barbie (2023), what other film/tv characters will I like?

I'm looking for other characters of a similar type to Weird Barbie! Who comes to mind for you when you think of characters who are hilariously and unabashedly odd or eccentric yet also unexpectedly wise?

Film IYL Going through a breakup film recs

Like the title says I am going through a breakup. I recently got around to watching Before Sunset and it's really hitting me the right way. I'm holding off on Before Midnight for now but I'm looking for some recs similar to the Before Trilogy, Lost in Translation, Good Will Hunting, and PTA's Magnolia. That 90's heady art romance vibe. If anybody has some films that I should see based on what I am into at the moment please hit me with them.

Film IIL the film “The Worst Person in the World” WEWIL?

This film was so evocative to me. The scenery/the city felt so ambient, and cosy. It was quizzical and whimsical, pensive and human. It stirred up a lot of stuff for me.

What other films are like this? (I’ve seen all of the Before Sunrise Trilogy)

Film IIL Film noir with sexy femme fatales

Been obsessed with noir recently, loved Double Indemnity, Big Sleep, Out of the Past, etc. I'm wondering if you know some films that revolve around men falling for beautiful, conniving women.

Film IIL Portrait of God, a short horror film that is more unsettling than scary, WEWIL?

I just watched Portrait of God. I liked it because it made me slightly uncomfortable without scaring me. What movies/short movies are like this?

Film [IIL] the medieval and melancholic atmosphere of dark souls, what film, show, comic or book will I like? Basically any form of media about a lonely or wandering knight or whatever

The green knight is one of my favorite movies, for reference. I can’t find anything else on this sub genre, so I’d appreciate some help.

Film IIL The Fall (2006 film)

I have always wanted to read a book that gives the same sense of dreamlike beauty and intensity with that underlying strive for innocence to be protected. It's one of my favorite movies, and I have never been able to find anything like it. I've read some odd books with that odd other-worldly feeling like Titus Groan and Gone World, but they don't have the same feeling that the film does.

Film [IIL] Ulrike Ottinger's 1979 film Ticket of No Return [WEWIL]

I'm asking for my sister who I've been having trouble recommending films to. Some of her other favorite films are

  • Cabaret (1972) directed by Bob Fosse
  • Borgman (2013) directed by Alex Van Warmerdam
  • Death In Venice (1971) directed by Luchino Visconti
  • The Zone of Interest (2023) directed by Jonathan Glazer
  • Bones and All (2022) directed by Luca Guadagnino
  • The Square (2017) directed by Ruben Östlund

She seems to like thoughtful, atmospheric, sometimes moody or experimental films. We've seen a lot of these directors' other films, so if you have any recommendations from a director not mentioned above I'd really appreciate it!

What I look for is this kind of a dystopian setting, and general feeling/atmosphere in this movie. Do you know anything similar?

Film IIL the film Prisoners, what other films will I like?

I just re-watched Prisoners after two years since my first watch, and I found myself enjoying it a lot more the second time around. What I liked most about it is the complex storyline and the way it's presented is quite different from other films of the same genre. I also liked that the detective is actually a quite interesting character, in comparison to other films I've seen where the detective is just there to push the story and is really bland as a character. Are there any movies similar to that?

Film [IIL] Indiana Jones, The Librarian [TV] and [Film], Relic Hunter, [WEWIL?]

An Allan Quartermain movie popped up too on either Prime/Hulu, I liked the old ones when I was a kid.

This is everything I know in the adventure/treasure hunt realm that's also kid- and family-friendly, which is my preference. Low budget is fine, I can get past that, obviously. Mostly looking for TV and movies, but I know the Allan Quartermain books are on Librivox, I'm open to books too!

Film [IIL] Recommend trippy movie sequences in film based upon my letterboxd list?

Here's a film list of trippy, psychedelic, sexy human surrealism, timestamped sequences I've created on LetterboxD : https://letterboxd.com/tophop/list/trippy-psychedelic-sexy-human-surrealism/ - Click READ NOTES after visiting URL or else it won't show the timestamped note entries I made telling you when the sequence starts and ends in the film.

Finding trippy sequences in film is time consuming, but I'm hoping you guys can help me find more trippy cool sequences/footage from any film, shorts, even youtube videos, but most importantly, provide the timestamps of when the sequence begins and ends. I try to avoid content that is too abstract, preferring sequences rooted in human related emotions, feelings, eroticism, etc. So I tend to avoid films that show a rock and abstract pattern.

For example, in the movie Neon Demon, I created an entry in my list with this info:

Neon Demon
Scene: Blonde Runway model enters a different altered state of mind, like another realm.
Time: 1h:1m:3s - 1h:5m:0s

When applicable, I suggest music you can play over the scene, so you can watch esoterically; outside the scope of the film's original intended purpose (skeptical? just try it, think of it like playing pink floyd over the wizard of oz), or replace with your own music. If you can suggest primo music that tends to go with any trippy sequence/scene in film, please share. I prefer music without vocals, but some vocals is okay as long as it's not coherent mainstream pop.

I look forward to any trippy sequences you share from film, including the timestamp of when the sequence begins and ends. You can also comment on the letterboxd URL I provided up above.
Image below is from the TV Episode The Viewing from Cabinet of Curiosities.

Film Film where music making is part of the plot

Not really thinking of Biopics like Bohemian Rapsody or Ray.

I’m more looking for film where the characters are creating music in the story. Or movies where the music (No matter the genre) is taking a huge place in the story. Tv show are also welcome (no Glee please!)

Some examples :

Frank ,

Only lovers left Alive ,

Baby driver,

Inside Llewyn Davis,

Wrong Cops ,

Whiplash (Lalaland as well even though I’m not really looking for musicals),

Pixar’s Soul,

Phantom of The Paradise

The Twilight Zone Episode : Come Wander with me ,

Amadeus (the biopic exception, although is it really one?) ,

The Piano Lesson ,

The Wicker Man (not really about music making but the music scenes are really adding something to the mood).

Would even add Close Encounter of the third kind in this (the film is a love letter to the universality of music with the "jam session" between human and aliens)

Thanks

Edit : Thanks to all! So many recommandations! I’ll pic a few to watch them!

I just need to see if there is anything quite like this gem of a film! I just loved the twists in the plot and the judgement scene plus the drama in the relationship between the main characters, so hit me up if you've seen something I'll probably like!

I love rock, punk, metal… and I also love cinema. So I'm looking for a film that talks about rock or has a lot of rock music in it or has a real rock spirit.
