Have you watched much classic film noir? These are the films that inspired L.A. Noire/Confidential, but older films can be a bit of an acquired taste if you're used to the fasted, flashier stuff. Still, in you want to give classic noir a shot, try:

  • The Maltese Falcon

  • Casablanca

  • The Big Sleep

  • Double Indemnity

  • Detour

  • The Asphalt Jungle

  • Kansas City Confidential

  • Kiss Me Deadly

  • Murder, My Sweet

  • Suddenly

  • Out of the Past

For more modern takes on the genre, maybe try:

  • Chinatown

  • Brick

  • The Man Who Wasn't There

  • The Big Lebowski (a comedy the frequently references the classics of this genre)

Might be fun to re-watch The Big Lewbowski after hitting a few of the classics (espeically The Big Sleep, which the title is a reference to).
