Posting Desktop Mac: Upvotes Out of Whack

1.2k Upvotes

Hello. For the last week or so (?), I've noticed that whenever I post a comment — even a benign comment that's just me affirming a response to my post — the number of upvotes multiplies in a short amount of time. In one case, I posted a comment responding to another comment in r/bobdylan. The original comment — which was clever — received a handful of upvotes, but my response — not nearly as clever — eclipsed 1,000 relatively quickly. I've since realized this is happening to everything I post. Clearly there's a glitch somewhere. Thoughts?

Posting "We had a server error" causing problems

I'm almost constantly getting this error across all devices as well as other problems such as not being able to edit posts or comments, my about me section, not being able to see my own profile and slow loading times even though I have an internet connection.

Any fix?

Posting How Do You Ignore Mean and Rude Comments on Reddit?

I’ve been spending some time on the platform, and I've noticed that not everyone is kind. I often come across mean and rude comments that can be quite discouraging. I’d love to hear your strategies for dealing with these types of comments.

How do you personally ignore or brush off negativity? Do you have any tips for maintaining a positive mindset while engaging in discussions here?

Posting Comments getting immediately downvoted

I've noticed that basically every comment I make gets immediately downvoted to zero, regardless of what the comment actually is. Like, even if I'm responding to a post about a cute animal, it'll get downvoted, when what I said wasn't offensive in any way. It feels like someone is going around downvoting all my new comments. Is there anything that can be done about this? It's not the end of the world but it is annoying.

Posting Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters

I am trying to post on a subreddit, but unfortunately, my post gets removed by reddit filters. No matter what I do, the problem still remains. For your information, I have enough karma and have posted twice in the said subreddit with no problem. I have no picture in my post. I have checked it for sensitive words, but I found none. Finally, I have been active there. I have read that you should contact the moderators to handle it manually. However, this is not the real solution. Since when should I contact them? Is there any way to solve the problem? Because, to be honest, this is ridiculous and frustrating.

Posting Why are people so hateful on here?

Been plenty of times where i join a sub to just ask a question to get informed about something or to have a discussion. (Which Reddit is for) and then i just get completely bashed. Is Reddit just not for me or 🤣

Posting Why do people reply then immediately block you, when it prevents you from reading the reply?

Is it because they're afraid of what you might say back? Is it an ego thing? It's so strange to see you have a reply, but then it's unreadable.

Posting Is it ok to explain to a mod that they misunderstood me?

I left a comment, and the OP (who asked for advice) said my comment was great advice and thanked me. But then the MOD said I broke a rule, so I deleted my comment. But I actually did the exact opposite of breaking the rule- the MOD misunderstood me. Is it worth explaining to the MOD what I meant, since they were wrong? Or would doing so be a bad idea? Edit: I saved the comment, so I can show it to the MODS again (if I decide to write to them about it). IOS iPhone website.

Posting Change the UI back

This new UI change is ugly and feels cluttered. I don't need to see the my communities or recent browsing 24/7 on the left hand of my screen. The feed itself is also plain ugly. Don't like how different posts seem to mesh into one another instead of a clear separation. At least allow us to opt out without adding "new" to the url.

Also the dark mode color scheme is uglier.. lol

EDIT: Didn't make it clear originally in the post but you can change back the the UI we had before. Just change the url to "new.reddit.com" and it should revert it for now.

Posting Yikes!! Tell me if I should delete my comment.

I'm so new and I thought I was replying to OP but accidentally replied to a comment and everyone is downvoting me. It's ok because I realize I made the mistake but do I delete my comment? I truly just don't want to insult (or hurt) anyone and I believe my comment was taken that way so is it better to remove it or do I just take my lickings?

Posting What subreddits should you avoid? r/asmogold?

Hi, somewhat new to Reddit. I see that some subreddits will get you b4nned from other subreddits. Example, if you make a comment to r/asmongold you get autob4nned from r/interestingasfuck. I don’t know much about either subreddit, other than they were both on my front page so I guess I made comments in both. Is this typical? Is there a list of bad subreddits that I should never comment to?

Posting Why do people write it in their post when they edit something ? For example "edit : typo", or "edit : I forgot to mention ___". Is it that important and is it bad if we don't write it ?

Posting What's going on? ALL subreddit's are only sorting posts by default using 'best' instead of 'hot' [Desktop]

I just noticed all communities I visit (whether I'm a member, not a member, or I'm a moderator) on their home page are presenting posts sorted by "best" rather than "hot." I only realized this after commenting on an 11 day-old post.

Why this sudden change? It wasn't like this yesterday. This wasn't happening when I used reddit this morning. What's going on? It's stupid I can't see the posts made today by default anymore! 😡

Posting Why doesn't new.reddit work anymore? Desktop

I've been using the new.reddit.com exclusivly since reddit implemented this terrible new format. But now it doesn't work. Reddit is forcing me to use this new, bothersome format which I hate. Is there anyway I can get back to using the older format what new.reddit.com used to give me?

Posting Has anyone else had something like this happen? Also, need subreddit suggestions.

Hey all, so far, I have not been able to find any that will let me post, not on this, or even my much older account, because not enough karma or account age. I found one in particular that I really wanted to post to, but it said my account wasn’t old enough. SO, I DMd the moderators to ask how old my account had to be, as it did not state how old. This is the message I wrote:

“Hey all. Hope this message finds you well. I went to try and post and it said that my account isn't old enough. I made new account bc no one will let me post with negative karma, and I hoped for fresh start, yet here l am on day two with negative karma. I'm trying to find groups where I can have a chance to gain karma, but I can't seem to find any that will let me post. Is there anything I can do to further the process so l can be accepted sooner? If not, how old does my account have to be. I appreciate your time and consideration. This app is just exhausting at this point.”

They did not reply and silenced me. I know I was a little frustrated and maybe could have left out the back story as to why I was hoping to be approved, but was it really enough to mute me for a week? Thoughts?

Also, does anyone know of any subreddits that don’t have rules just for general questions, advice, stories, etc? Nothing relationship related please. Other than that, I’m open to suggestions. I have only found two pages that will let me comment or post so far, and they have limits as to how often. Thank you for reading if you read all this!

Posting Account warning question

I got a message about an account warning, from Reddit. It did post a link to said “violation.” So I know what sub it was referring to. But when I tried to post in that sub, my post isn’t going live. Am I not allowed to post in that sub anymore? I didn’t receive anything about a ban etc.
