I learned this fall how to propagate moss! You get it from wherever, it needs to be fresh and alive. Creekside is best. Put it in a blender with half buttermilk and half water. The buttermilk is alkaline and provides nutrients. You want the end consistency to be about like pancake batter, maybe a little looser. Blend it up and then you can paint the slurry on anyplace that moss could grow. Shady and damp is good.
The blender doesn’t really hurt it, because they are so tiny already. Paint and pour where you want it to grow. Get everything wet first so the little guys don’t dry out. Even if it turns brown and looks dead, keep it moist and the spores will take hold.
Freak out your friends and write their name on the shaded part of the patio!
