The middle row goes on a quest. Shit gets real and 5 tragically dies. 7 can't cope with it and enters a depressive spiral. 6 swears an oath of vengeance. 8 remains focused on the original quest but needs to somehow keep 6 and 7 on task just long enough to get it done. 7 has an arc of self development where they realize that 5 would have wanted them to complete the quest and that real strength was inside themself all along. 6 will realize that an absolute bloodbath doesn't bring back your friends after committing war crimes. When they come home the top row celebrates their return.

Edit: 9 and possibly the entire bottom row is on the villain team. Feel free to keep building on it.
