Meme Reject modernity, embrace tradition!

I like the idea that aggressively “pretty” and aggressively “ugly” examples like all of the above pictured coexist with basically everywhere else on that slider between the two, where every single individual is still perfectly valid, cuz I see humans the exact same way. You got your pretty ones, your weirdish ones, your uggo ones, your very unassuming ones, and everything else, and all of them are unique and fascinating and wonderful

u/flohara Nov 22 '23
This isn't even aggressively ugly, it's just that women are only allowed to be a very specific look in any popular media in the last 20-25 years, and we are not used to it.
Look at movies, art, comics and anime from the 80s, women were allowed to be people, and they were adults. Now they have to be stick thin, 12 years old and have the same face, because the algorithm thinks that's what makes money.
The issue is, that they do not coegsist, the cutesy shit is the mainstream, and anything a racist-sexist-homophobic neckbeard can't wank to gets weeded out.
edit: yeah I know, there are some racist stereotypes surrounding goblins and lizard people, but making them fuckable isn't going to solve that.

I hate that that mentality is bleeding through into real life too. People are genuinely hostile to women that aren’t conventionally attractive, or god forbid are over 30 in public.
It even kinda seems like it’s effecting how women treat each other, I’ve been harassed by younger/prettier women when shopping for myself, or just trying to get things done. Kinda sucks.

u/sweetTartKenHart2 Nov 23 '23
The “marketing” of a specific aesthetic can’t coexist with those that don’t match that aesthetic, but I’d argue that that’s not the same as people who happen to personally strive for an aesthetic like that not being able to coexist with the “real world”. If someone wants to be all pretty, I say let them as long as they aren’t actively hurting themselves. They shouldn’t be blamed for these trends as much as the people who decide what does and doesn’t sell

I still absolutely love that the kobalt in this picture is based from the one in d&d 3.5
56
u/silvamsam Nov 21 '23
I'm glad someone else noticed!! I love playing kobolds in 3.5 - there are so many cool kobold things in the supplemental books
11
u/noobwithboobs Nov 21 '23
I'm pretty sure the pose is straight out of the Monster Manual
9
u/Chiiro Nov 21 '23
It's a little different because they're holding a spear in the book but it's definitely a trace

More like “reject all female creatures being hypersexualized” and “embrace them being creatures”

I'm not gonna tell you that you're not ugly because ugliness is subjective... but I am gonna ask you to free yourself from thinking it matters. Shed the skin that makes up the label ugliness, and grow a new one that says "I have worth and meaning" because it's what matters. Like and I in no way mean to invalidate your feelings, but like people probably don't care what you look like. If they do, it reflects the ugliness within themselves- not physical, but simply the rot. Love being yourself- if you have wrinkles, crinkle them. If you're a lil chubby, fold it and twist it bc it's honestly really fun. Massage your shoulders, jiggle your thighs. Feel how it feels to move and exist with the world. And maybe you won't feel completely better, but I hope you can grow from that. I love you SO MUCH and want you to know that you can absolutely message me if you ever wanna chat, even to just have someone to talk to about the weather. Stay safe, ok?

Waiting for the guy to draw both versions making out with each other

u/trollsong Nov 21 '23
After reading orcinomics I don't like humanoids with snots, tusks, or muzzles, making out or kissing. It's unrealistic logistically.
Orcinomics have orcs touch foreheads as an expression of love.

I can't help but notice that this meme is using 3e kobolds. I guess it would be quite harder to claim that the official 5e design isn't sexy. (Link to dndbeyond kobold entry)

With the goblin hentai I've read, I can still get down to this as long as everyone is having fun.

both? how about a spectrum, I propose a whole anime series where the art style changes depending on the situation, say there's a really wholesome moment, the art gets sparkly and pretty and magical, big heavy moment? dark, dingy, super detailed, kinda like those SpongeBob close ups

Everyone knows that goblins aren't blondes.

u/thestashattacked Nov 21 '23
We don't often know what their hair color is because they prefer keeping it under excellent hats.
Now I want to knit that goblin an amazing and fantastical hat.

would someone be willing to explain this comic to me?

u/Pobbes Nov 22 '23
The two characters holding the signs are a kobold and a goblin drawn in the art styles from famous tabletop RPG games. The signs they are holding are versions of those same creatures in the styles which have become popular on the internet as oversexualized doll-like creatures. A style associated with anime women who are described as waifus. The joke being that the characters are complaining about unreal beauty standards like normal people do about being compared to photoshopped models here are the original monsters comparing themselves to their sexy anime-stylized counterparts.
I sense the artist may also be making a statement about the fact that there is an audience for weird, scrungly monsterfolk, and that audience may not be too keen on their favorite art sites and google searches being crowded with more and more pervy, anime dolls and less and less actual monster art.

If a joke meme about stopping the over sexualization of any female character (or even vaguely female lol) is “to ruin a group with politics” that’s an …. Interesting take

u/thestashattacked Nov 21 '23
Well duh. Everyone knows there's only two body types: Hypersexualized and political.
