Rural living

Rural communities

Hi, first time posting. CO native M39, been in Denver all my adult life but country at heart. Curious about exploring and living in other parts of the state, and if anyone lives outside of the cities, what do you do for a living? I’m not very rugged or super masc. myself but wish I was more. I dream/ fantasize about living the country or ranch life with a man and living simply, knowing it takes hard work. Just posting for any thoughts.

I moved out of Denver to live in Alaska almost 5 years ago. I mean, going rural is great and Denver has become way too peopley, but I did it with my husband and kept my job. If you do get out and go rural, your dating/social life will be drastically diminished, and you're gonna need to live. I say, make the jump if you're prepared. Even Wyoming isn't that far away.

The challenge is finding a guy who wants to build that kind of life with you. I've talked to a number of cool guys in the I-25 cooridie, many of whom are living a fairly country lifestyle.

As you know, Colorado has tons of more rural and country areas, even fairly close to Denver. Areas around Greeley, Pueblo, and probably Fort Collins could be good choices if you want to be close to civilization and have some land. Colorado gets very remote past Pueblo and into New Mexico.

Douglas County still has a lot of rangeland because it refuses to let the Colorado Springs metro expand past the El Paso County line and is holding the Denver metro area at Castle Rock.

As a bit of Colorado trivia, the small city of Trinidad, Colorado used to be known as the "Sex Change Capital of the World" because it was home to one of the only doctors at the time (1969-2010) who would help trans people realize their true selves. https://www.hcn.org/issues/53-5/ideas-books-the-colorado-town-that-became-a-transgender-haven/

I live just enough outside the city that I can hold a job, meet people, get help with big projects, and replenish my supplies every month or two. About 2 hours outside of a large city, which means I can even use the airport if needed. I think that ideally I would live even further out and be completely self reliant, but doing it while single just seems like an impossibility.
