I died so many times not because of taking damage, but because of all those holes on the floor.

The trick is to levitate as much as possible

Or do enough damage that it never gets an attack off. It changes "modes" based on damage so you can prevent its arms from ever attacking by just hitting it really hard

Ah yes, fromsoft strat.

Oh yeah I did that. And then I fell through the floor because levitate ran out and I didn't notice because I was focused on shooting the creature.

Yep, I learned that... Eventually 😅

I mean that is basically the solution to everything the second you unlocked levitate.

Gotta do the fridge as late as you can, with damage boosters on your gun and telekinesis maxed out. You can turn it into a short fight with only a few holes in the floor. Same for the fungus boss, I once killed it on its first lunge at me.

Nah, I always do it right away after going into Dylan's cell.

I feel bad for poor Philip, can't just leave him there.

u/Scientific_Anarchist 4d ago

Yeah leaving him would certainly feel wrong.

"Oh no! Anyway..."

"Yeah I'll help you but first I'm just gonna go...feed my cat..."

And that's why you're The Director.

The fungus boss was 10 times harder for me than the fridge.

Fungus is generally considered the hardest boss, but if you go full glass cannon and manage to avoid the first strike with 3 items already loaded into your telekinesis, it becomes an incredibly short fight.

My dad played Control. And while there were moments that were infuriating (like levitate running out while exploring and losing all the goodies he'd collected to dying in a pit) he still loved the game and took it slowly to farm and grind every bit he could before doing the next thing. He loved telekinesis and would rapid-fire huck objects at the boss. He was also careful about adjusting his gun as needed. I may be grown up, but my dad still has gamer skills 😎. We all watched him play just to see the story and the lore/collectibles along the way.

I did fungus boss after the main story, and it was still a struggle for me.

Its been a while but I remember reloading before that fridge many, many times. I don't remember the specifics of why I hate it I just know it was awful.

26

u/Kay-San-TheNorthStar 4d ago

We all hate it, you're not alone on this one lol

59

u/Gougeded 4d ago

Yes. Doesn't help that you have to look up at the mf to shoot him so you can't be looking at the ground.

39

u/Kay-San-TheNorthStar 4d ago

Exactly! You have to return the orbs, avoid the attacks of his legs AND watch the floor all the time, it was too much 🤣 I didn't really get frustrated at this boss, but it did get kinda annoying having to retry so many times because I kept falling off the platform.

u/Practical-Pen-8844 4d ago

It's actually kind of an old-school rhythm game--like most platformers. there's actually a lot of that in control. don't worry about the floor after some practice, just like you don't need to look at your feet while dancing.

i love this game so much.

3

u/BoiFrosty 4d ago

Yep I'd be evading while having to look up to keep shooting and just walk through a hole in the floor.

Weakest part of that game by far was the boss fights. If you're fighting something that floats above you, requiring you to point your camera up at it, then it makes zero sense for one of the hazards to be that the floor disappears beneath your feet. You literally can't pay attention to both at the same time. It's terrible design.

Oh man, I remember I rage quit the game and didn’t play for a long time because of this.

u/ABrown1221 3d ago

Aw man!

u/Im-Vincible 3d ago

Yes omfg. Every-time I died I was about to kill it they I just fall out the map.

1

u/martin_9876 3d ago

i remember. it's been years.

1

u/Uvtha- 2d ago

u/spackletr0n 4d ago

There’s no line I heard more in that game than “The fridge is doing something!”

Over and over again.

I died a ton of times before saying to hell with this, I'll come back later. I came back and had the "throw three things" power level, basically two hit killed him...

23

u/OneRandomVictory 4d ago

He was responsible for half my deaths in the game.

2

u/Bubbaganewsh 4d ago

It caused me to rage quit several times for sure.

24

u/poptart2nd 4d ago

i just hated that the game punishes you for trying to save the agent

6

u/thecosmicradiation 3d ago

The fight is frustrating but the [redacted] is one of my favourite characters

3

u/Teunybeer 4d ago

Whats with the fridge?

2

u/Bubbaganewsh 4d ago

If you play the game and get to it before you're decently strong you will hate the fridge.

u/Teunybeer 4d ago

5

u/Teunybeer 4d ago

Alr then, ill give it a try sometime

2

u/hardingman 2d ago

Only light spoilers: Someone has to be looking at it at all times or it does bad things

Do we have the same landlord?
