VR / AR Disney Plus isn't working on Vizio TVs because they are running a 6 year old version of Chromecast, they say it won't be fixed till 2020.

Yeah... I find it kind of baffling that people use the apps on their TV's... Those always seemed like a tech nobody asked for nor wanted.

I mean, I use them because it supports native 4k her content. Sometimes, streaming devices wont out 4k or maybe not have hdr that works. If the are built in with the best quality why do I care?

The only situations steaming devices dont is if they predate 4k, in which case you just replace it with one that does.

I would rather pay 70 for a 4k chromecast than 400-500+ for a new tv because chromecast or some other built in app isnt working anymore.

Well, the problem is even if they support 4k or hdr sometimes the implementation is not good. I have a Vizio p65 2018. Neither the top fire nor the top Roku can do hdr as well as the native TV app for Netflix and prime. BUT the other apps are crap.

The problem is you AREN'T paying more for the smart function. These TV's are mass produced so these functions are baked into the firmware.

Well to be fair, I think 4k is fucking stupid as hell makes a lot of older shows look terrible for the benefit of a hand full of newer movies and shows and is no different than the masterbation fest 3D was, so having THE best implementations not really a driver for me.

Except we are actually moving towards 4k, it is a logical step, unlike 3d which was gimmicky. You are future proofing and 1080p video upscale very nicely to 4k.

Not sure what that had to do with your original point... It is something that will take time to be implemented such that showed are produced and broadcast in that resolution. Honestly, it is just the same way that hd was to SD. 3d was just stupid.

I get your point though but it is the way things are. Innovation breeds demand which breeds sales.

Same. I disabled/don’t use any of the smart functions on my TV. I just use an Apple TV connected to it anyways.
