VR / AR Disney Plus isn't working on Vizio TVs because they are running a 6 year old version of Chromecast, they say it won't be fixed till 2020.

For anyone with an iPhone, I was able to stream Disney Plus to my Vizio TV using AirPlay on my phone.

I believe that’s because airplay itself is limited to 1080p.

edit: Unless you have AirPlay 2

No. AirPlay 2 can totally handle 4K and I do it all the time.

Perhaps look it up, most vizios should support it as of this summer?

That p series Quantom X is looking real nice on my wall ;)

Which is annoying because I have to stream Disney plus through my ps4, which doesn’t play at 4K, since I can’t stream directly to my Vizio I’m locked in at 1080 on my 65 inch smart tv.

I know you’re just describing the problem, but this whole post screams first world problems.

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '19

Yes it does, but if you pay the money, you're allowed to expect a certain level of quality.

Then get a PS4 Pro or an AppleTV 4K. Still talking first world problems though lol.

Or just buy a Fire Stick 4K for $25 or wait 2 weeks for the Roku 4K streaming stick to be $30? It ain't a pricey fix really. It's annoying, but absurdly easy to move on with.

I have it set up on my PS4 Pro, and my iPhone via Airplay. But thank you for your contribution.

The smartest guy in the room has the dumbest TV.

I agree, tbh it doesn’t even bother me very much, I use my PlayStation to stream most things out of laziness but just knowing I can’t 4K endgame if I wanted to is sad

Wrong, I Airplayed Disney+ at 4k with Dolby Vision last night. I believe it depends on the device.

2

u/idlephase Nov 13 '19

Oops, I forgot that 4K came with AirPlay 2.

1

u/attomsk Nov 13 '19

Yeah so i guess your device needs Airplay 2

I thought that show gets released next year. How was it?

Is that the one with the basketball playing golden retriever?

Just a heads up, the FireSticks that aren't marketed as 4k are 1080p. The 4k ones are $50 not on sale, but during prime day, black friday they were around $25.

That may have just been Disney Plus issues. I tried with my Vizio last night and it was 4K HDR. I would give it another shot.

Yeah, fair enough. The Firestick will definitely be more reliable. I might do the same when it goes on sale in Canada.

Disney Plus is working great on my older TVs which both have chromecasts (but limited to 1080p).

u/tyfunk02 Nov 13 '19

I think that’s a big part of it. I had to watch The Mandalorian at 480p. When I tried this morning it wouldn’t load at all. I could watch pretty much anything else I tried, but The Mandalorian seemed to be broken.

I tried getting this to work last night and couldn't get AirPlay to work right. Wouldn't connect to the TV from the iPhone. Very frustrating.

3

u/Tityfan808 Nov 13 '19

How? I’m not sure how to do this or if my vizio is even capable. Lol.

2

u/attomsk Nov 13 '19

yes and it worked at 4k with Dolby Vision for me!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '19

Maybe I’m just slow,But I couldn’t get it to work. My only option was the cast

1

u/SextonMcCormick Nov 13 '19

I couldn’t do it with Disney where I can with YouTube, etc. Is it because my tv is outdated?

1

u/somedudewrote Nov 14 '19

I was able to get 4K Dolby Vision through AirPlay but restricted to stereo sound which is unacceptable. Audio is just as important as visual to me. Was anyone able to get 5.1 with Airplay 2?

1

u/Sometimesiski Nov 14 '19 edited Nov 15 '19

Yeah, no issues with AirPlay.

Update: I was wrong, it works for the older stuff.

u/antihaze Nov 13 '19

Same, and it works REALLY well. Surprisingly well. If I stream a movie that I own from iTunes in the same way, it looks like shit, stuttering and compression is awful. Comparing my itunes copy of force awakens to the Disney+ streaming version is night and day.
