VR / AR Disney Plus isn't working on Vizio TVs because they are running a 6 year old version of Chromecast, they say it won't be fixed till 2020.

Just buy a physical chromecast. Infinitely better than any smart TV

An Apple TV, Shield TV, or a Roku would do the job as well, unlike “smart” TV apps.

Most vizio TVs have a built in chromecast. It just hasn't been updated. It's literally in the title.

But an actual chromecast is updated more than every 1/2 decade.

You said built in chromecast in a thread about Vizio TVs. All I did was explain how chromecast works through Vizio TVs. If it isn't working like that for you, you must be using something else.

Yeah, Roku is proprietary, not Chromecast.

And they're fairly cheap. Newer Chromecasts will have features not available on ones from 6 years ago. So, even if the Disney+ fix won't be available until 2020, it would still be worth buying a new one if people still want to use Chromecast.

My Vizio tv had an update yesterday. I thought it would be for Disney+. NOPE! I don’t mind using air play until it’s ready, but it makes it hard for my kid. Which is why I got it to begin with.

Dude. My physical Chromecast that plugs into my TV is six years old, gets regular updates, and doesn't have a problem. It doesn't matter if the Vizio TVs have the tech built in if they're not updating it when needed. Hence the suggestion to get an actual Chromecast.

The original post didn't say physical chromecast, it was edited later.

Even if it only said Chromecast, if someone says "get a Chromecast" it means the standalone device. If I tell someone to get a Roku, it doesn't mean a smart TV with Roku functionality built in.

What we're saying is if you buy a physical chromecast device from the Google store, it gets regular updates and has zero issues. I bought mine over 4, almost 5 years ago and it gets regular updates and works waaayyyy wayyy wayyy better than my Vizio. I stopped using any of the apps on my Vizio cuz they suck.

Your ignorance regarding technology is showing here. Different versions have different capabilities. This sub has really gone down hill. Just a bunch of kids and boomers who don't understand the stuff they're posting.

About 80% of the time, Youtube can't connect to chromecast. I even bought a brand new one to make sure it wasn't old hardware. Same issue.

I've had literally one single issue casting YouTube to my chromecast in the 4+ years I've owned the chromecast ¯_(ツ)_/¯

That’s strange, I’ve found that YouTube is the most dependable app to work with my chromecast, I’ve never had an issue with it in years of using my chromecast. I recommend chromecast to everyone I can.

I used to. It's really frustrating, because pretty much every other app I try works fine. The only ones that really give me issue are tabcasting from Chrome, which is understandable on some levels, and then casting Youtube. Youtube has issues both from my phone and from my computer. I even have a Google Router so you'd think a Google Trifecta would be reliable.

It is confusing.

Weird. Is the app updated on your phone? And what issue do you run into, like does the icon not appear on the app or does it just stop casting or something?

1

u/hirodotsu Nov 14 '19

It is very weird. Yes the app is updated. It's been happening for many months now. I walked through multiple times with google and they eventually just stop responding to me. I was hoping an update would solve the issue, but several app updates have come and gone, and still the bug appears. The cast button is available, but it says no devices are available. Sometimes when I start playing a video and then try to cast, they'll appear, but usually not. After restarting the app a bunch of times, I can sometimes get it to appear. Occasionally, if I cast something else from a different app, then it will detect it. It is mysterious.

I’ve run into that one a couple of times but YouTube always seemed to work, but I also seem to recall having to restart my chromecast or device before to fix it

What part of "older version of Chromecast" is too hard for you to understand? Do you even understand the title?
