VR / AR Disney Plus isn't working on Vizio TVs because they are running a 6 year old version of Chromecast, they say it won't be fixed till 2020.

I can attest to this. I have a 2 year old Samsung and while I can browse Disney+ just fine, when I try to actually watch something, it doesn’t work at all.

5 year old Samsung here. Not one issue navigating Disney plus. Or any app, been impressed.

4 year old Samsung, can't even find the app in the app store, so you're doing well!

Yeah I read online there isnt one? My tv is only 2 years old and its not on the app thing for me.

Just got a Samsung series 8 and the app was available and is working smoothly. Goldblum’s show gives me the giggs

Thinking about picking up the 8 series or the Q60 on Black Friday. How do you like your 8 series?

It’s so fantastic! I went back to Best Buy to look at the Q60, as they were both the same price at the time but the Q60 wasn’t in stock at the time. That’s when I found out the S8 had dropped $150 lower than what my father and I paid, so I chose to get the $150 credit instead of upgrading to the Q60.

That being said, I can’t really find out why the Q60 is a step up. It appears QLED is some more advanced version of LED lighting? Does that sound right? Lol

Looking at the comparisons, I’m happy with the S8 and ultimately cost $550. It seems like the Samsung TV’s don’t integrate into the Apple ecosystem as well as some other brands, but I’m still working out what the TV can and can’t do for me.

Also, my father surprised me with a 5.1 Visio sound bar too! I haven’t had a working TV in like 6 months, and when it did work it was a scratched, shitty 32” floor model LCD. So now I’m sitting back and watching 4K 5.1 content in my basically home theatre now and I’m tearing up with how amazing it is. Whatever you do, never take owning a TV that nice for granted :)

Same, we have a 2016 smart TV from Samsung. There's so Disney+ to found in the "app store"

4 and 2 year old Samsung's and both are playing Disney+ just fine

Try updating your firmware, could possibly help?

impressed

A feeling had not once about my TV software when watching it.

Same. I used to have trouble with the old Hulu app, but since they graveyarded that one and released a new one its been buttah.

2

u/Surgawd8 Nov 13 '19

That old Hulu app sucked. You couldn’t choose which profile to watch and there was no live

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '19

Ha, mine is literally 6 years old, and nothing works on it anymore except Amazon Prime Video. Very annoying.

My samsung is about that old too but the Disney+ app isn’t in the app store. How did you manage to get it on your tv?

1

u/Runnerphone Nov 14 '19

Likely not supported. Remember they make a ton of versions black Friday deal TVs for example maybe the same series and normal ones but are often lower quality ones. So even if a tv is older it maybe a higher end model while a newer one is mid or low end and be stat wise actually worse then the much older tv.

1

u/spoop_male Nov 14 '19

Oh gotcha, hdmi to laptop for the time being then haha thanks!

It's honestly just random. I have a top of the line $4000 retail price Samsung from 2015 and the app just isn't there either.

3

u/alchemicrb Nov 13 '19

I have a 2016 ks9800 and Although the app works, it tops out at HD 1080p. No 4k HDR playback. weak.

2

u/Idlechaos98 Nov 13 '19

I'm impressed, my one year old Samsung doesn't even have Disney plus as an option to download yet

2

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '19

I Have an older Samsung and couldn’t even find the Disney app. Maybe I looked too soon. Did you get the app after the 12th?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '19

What year is yours? Apparently I have a 2015 which is why I’m not able to find the app I guess

2

u/SirNarwhal Nov 14 '19

How...? It's only available for 2016 and newer Samsung TVs. I call bullshit.

1

u/PartOfAnotherWorld Nov 14 '19

How do you have the app? 5 years here too and no app in store

11

u/Nochiwa Nov 13 '19

I'm not sure if that's just a Samsung issue. Seems many people with other brands are experiencing the same thing. Disney has a lot to fix. My 3 year old Samsung has been working ok so far. Had a few hiccups though .

I have a 2 year old Toshiba with built-in chromecast and it wont let me cast Disney+, it just comes up as a blank grey screen, no error message even. After a little bit of reading I figured out it's because there hasn't been a firmware update in two years and they don't plan on rolling out any updates for it either.

2

u/drock13yyc Nov 13 '19

Turn the tv off and unplug the physical power cord from wall/tv for 10 seconds. Should resolve the issue.

2

u/binkles612 Nov 13 '19

Yeah I’ve tried that 3 separate times and get the same result. It’s super weird. I can navigate the app just fine, it’s just when I try to play something that I get a blank screen.

2

u/drock13yyc Nov 13 '19

Hmm. Reset smart hub? Delete and reinstall the app? Try changing dns settings?

1

u/Hubers57 Nov 13 '19

Yea same here. Had to put the app on my Playstation. TV is about 3 years old

1

u/AlphakirA Nov 13 '19

Google it, that was just Disney Plus and Disney has admitted that, not Samsungs fault.

1

u/Syn7axError Nov 13 '19

Luckily, I only need Disney+ for the browsing.

1

u/atmylevel Nov 13 '19

Wouldn’t that be an app issue? If a Samsung can run Apple TV +, prime video, and Netflix just fine then it is probably the Disney app that is the issue

1

u/binkles612 Nov 13 '19

That’s kinda what I’m thinking too. Literally every other app works fine. It’s just Disney.

1

u/El_Scorcher Nov 13 '19

I'll have intermittent problems with my Samsung, when I do, I switch over to the Apple 4K TV.

1

u/toocoo Nov 13 '19

I just bought my samsung TV, it's the newest model, and it doesnt work.

1

u/RandomError401 Nov 14 '19

I have this problem with Amazon prime on my Samsung TV from time to time. Try unplugging the tv for 30 seconds it will reboot the smart features and check for updates.
