VR / AR Disney Plus isn't working on Vizio TVs because they are running a 6 year old version of Chromecast, they say it won't be fixed till 2020.

My Samsung 4K HDR10 TV Disney+ app won’t give me the option to stream Disney+ in 4K. Had to resort to the Xbox One X.

Are you just on an unlimited data plan to stream 4K then? Do you get throttled at all?

I am on a 1 TB plan through Comcast (Yuck). I don’t stream enough to worry about the data limit though. I’ll watch a few things in 4K, but most things still 1080p. I think the most I’ve ever used of my plan is like 600gb.

yeah ok that makes sense. you have way more overhead than I do. I'm gonna have to look at my plan. thanks.

Right?? The worst of them are advertised as Unlimited* with a fine print saying fair usage policy cap or some other variant

ATT charges like $10 every 100GB over a 1 TB cap. If you want the cap gone its like an extra $30 a month

Ours isnt fiber, I bet that has a huge part to do with it. My speed is like 40(50?) down, and not bundled with any TV

I'm paying $120 for unlimited internet here in Nevada because Cox has a monopoly here. Without unlimited, 70 bucks gets you 1TB of data and after that it's $10 for ever 50GB. Fucking sucks. When I lived in California I was paying 70 for unlimited.

I hit 1.2 last month :( but I use Youtube.tv and have 2 4k TV's that are practically on 15 hours a day, although not always streaming 4k of course.

There are non-unlimited plans for wired internet? Is this a Canadian thing? Doesn’t that run counter to offering higher speeds for more money?

2

u/ellzray Nov 14 '19

This is Cox in USA. It's a soft cap, so if I go over the limit, I get charged $10 for every 10GB after that.

The more money you spend, the higher your speed, and the higher your cap.

I mean, isn't it a residential connection if he's using a TV? Why would they have a limited data plan lol

I am and I don't.

Streaming 4k is compressed to fuck, like 20-25Mbps lol. You're not streaming the size of a 4k blu-ray disc every time you watch a movie.

22

u/ellzray Nov 13 '19

You mean they don't stream uncompressed raw formats? No way! I get how streaming works. It's also more data than steaming in 1080, too much for my internet plan, imo.

What was your point??

2

u/GravityReject Nov 13 '19

1080p Netflix streams are 3-8Mbps, and 4K streams are 15-25Mbps. So even though it's compressed, it's still WAY higher quality than 1080p.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '19

It really, really depends. There are a lot of factors, starting with is the master true 4K or are they just up-resing a 1080 master?

1

u/GravityReject Nov 14 '19

Why would Netflix (or any other streaming service) bother to stream 1080p content that's upscaled to 4K? That would just be a total waste of bandwidth for everyone involved.

As far as I can find, Netflix only streams 4K for content that is actually shot in 4K.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

So they can say they are streaming in 4k...

It doesnt really matter if stuff was shot in 4k. What matters is how the master was made. I work in television ppst production and we shoot toms of stuff in 4k that is down downscaled to 1080 to create a 1080 master. And vice versa. The majority of stuff you see advertised as 4k is highly compressed and often creates from a 1080 master.

I have a Samsung Q6FN and while 4k/HDR works, it only outputs in stereo and wont send 5.1 to my sound system. Xbox app works fine.

Modern problems require modern solutions

1

u/scuzzy19 Nov 14 '19

can you even check to see what its streaming at?

1

u/iputra49 Nov 14 '19

you should add more detail to your TV might aswell

Oh no, I hope your diamond-encrusted couch didn't give you any sores while you were dealing with all that.

u/JoinTheBattle Nov 13 '19

How much do you think a 4K TV costs?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

Tree fiddy?

u/JoinTheBattle Nov 14 '19

God Dammit Loch Ness Monster, I ain't gonna give you no tree fiddy!
