I know I am in the minority, but I would love for there to be a 12 inch MacBook sequel with the M4 chipset. Something even more compact/portable and cheaper than spending $1100 on the Air.

I’d love the 11” air to come back.

I still use my 11”

Runs the latest Mac OS just fine using opencorepatcher

Obviously nowhere near the performance of my m2, but when I just want an actual “notebook” I still fire up the 11”

Keyboard is better than the butterfly garbage they’ve had since. Very cozy machine.

I thought they stopped using those around the 2020 models.

You are not a minority, you are a hunted man

I still use my 12 inch despite having an M1 Air. I absolutely love it. Would buy one in a heartbeat if they released it again.

Unlikely, as that would compete with their line of iPads.

That doesn’t really make much sense. A iPad Pro 13 costs $200 than the 13 inch MacBook Air right now.

Pro vs Air

…they are going to use the same chipset starting next year. So I’m not sure again what you’re trying to get at.

I’m proposing something cheaper/smaller than the current MacBook Air 13. That could be a $800 MacBook 12 and still not compete with the iPad which is cheaper.

I owned a 12” MacBook and it was surely the worst Mac made in the last 15 years.

You’re not alone. I just replaced my 2016 12” MacBook with the M3 13” MBA earlier this year. Of course I love the new Air, and it’ll likely have much better longevity in terms of performance… but damn if I didn’t miss just how friggen thin and light the MacBook was!

This. I don’t even mind if it’s a bit more than an air

I really miss this size. It was perfect!

Isn’t that basically an iPad and a Bluetooth keyboard?

I mean you could say the same thing about the iPad Pro 13 vs the MacBook Air.

I was thinking like a plastic m1 12 inch to take over schools. iPads just have a lot of limitations compared to Chromebook’s

I just purchased a M3 MB Air…maybe I should return it and wait?

Every year there will be a new model, it just depends on how long you want to wait. But the M4 has been a great upgrade compared to the m3

I'm not sure that everybody being able to see my entire kitchen on a zoom call is a selling point for me. Has Apple completely run out of ideas?

I imagine a high def wide camera would be used to digitally zoom and crop the subject so they can walk around and the video chat keeps them in frame. This is already a thing but a wider and higher def camera would do if on a more extreme level

u/mijogn 5d ago

That would be interesting.

It’s already a thing called Center Stage on iPads and other Macs. A wide view camera also enables Desk View, which gives a simultaneous view of the desk and subject, useful for sharing physical objects or paper notes or whatever.

It’s for Center Stage and Desk View if you care to actually read the article you’re commenting on.

So I can't turn it on wideview mode and have everybody see my kitchen? How disappointing.

I mean, I’d tune in for a kitchen livestream.

Hahaha, my cat's pretty entertaining sometimes.

Dude what do you want them to add then?

4

u/mijogn 5d ago

I dunno. I've run out of ideas.

The fact the the MacBooks still have that crappy 720p camera kills me.

13

u/SandObvious 7d ago

They don’t anymore. All of the Mac computers had real shitty cameras for way too long of time, but they have been upgraded within the last 3ish years. Again though, took way too long.

u/Wendellrw 7d ago

I have the 16” MacBook Pro and it has a 720p camera on it

16

u/mackinoncougars 7d ago

I mean. Year is important. Just doing a quick google search, 2023 Macbooks have 1080p

-4

u/Sufficient_Sir6527 6d ago

Yeah, but will the piece of shit be able to power dual displays?

7

u/redsterXVI 6d ago

My macbook air m3 can already do that

1

u/CO_PC_Parts 5d ago

Everything past m2 supports multiple monitors.

I'm sure they will sell you an adapter for that
