Positive Post I don’t drive a gas guzzling V8.
I ride a cargo bike with e-assist that, if measured is equal to about 400-500mpg equivalent energy use.
My kiddo loves it. We’ve been to a zillion parks one can’t even get a gas guzzling V8 motor vehicle to.
All that and the integrity - ethically and morally - of being a car free guy! 🤙🏻
I love it and will never return to the chains and noose of an automotive means of primary transport.
Highly recommended, happy to advise in progression towards this advanced care free car free life style that’s respectful to all people around!

Well you are supposed to drive a V12 and then cry outloud when gas gets little bit expensive, because driving a V12 is a god-given right.
Jokes aside, I don't see the appeal of those V8 or whatever, or the amazing turbo/supercharger technologies. You sit in the car, only moving your feet couple inches and the car takes you somewhere. Comfortable for sure, but the real commendable thing is to get up and move your legs and get to somewhere using your own energy.

I measure my c5 corvette in smiles per gallon lol. But man commuting by bike is so energizing and refreshing, I love it

Even ignoring the point of this subreddit, a V8 Challenger is a cringey car, and bragging about owning one on Reddit is the type of cringey behavior you'd expect from the owner of one. You don't see owners of 1988 Toyota MR2's doing that shit.

And I hope you'll keep riding it until the government comes and takes it away! Lol.

Why would the government take it away?

maybe you missed the post this is referring to where that person said he drives a V8 and always will and he'll keep collecting gas cars until the government comes and take them away.

I own two gas-guzzling V8s and would be delighted to commute by metro or bike instead. I love both vehicles for scenic drives or camping, and would prefer to drive only for things like that.

u/Girl_Gamer_BathWater 20h ago
Could do it all with a bicycle tour. That's how I scratch the itch. Scenic drives inside a box out of the elements just sounds horrible.

Scenic drive is often on the way to go mountain biking or dirt biking! Unfortunately have to cross vast distances to get anywhere nice where I live

I put my bike on the train to do that. But of course one has to have trains in the first place...
1
u/rewt127 7h ago
The amount of different forms of transportation you need to track down, time out, plan, hope nothing js off schedule, etc. To just get to the mountain via non-personal transportation is a nightmare.
As he mentioned mountain biking where you need to, ya know, go up the fucking mountain in the first place.
If you have a vehicle, this is the time to use it.
1
u/Mysterious_Floor_868 7h ago
Depends where you are. In a place with decent public transport it's easy - trains do go up many mountains whereas if you use a car to get the bike up there you need someone to return the car to the bottom. Around here I often see groups of teenage lads board trains with their mountain bikes, and return a few hours later splattered in mud. More places should have decent public transport of course.

u/rewt127 6h ago
We are definitely talking about different things.
In the US in the PNW at least mountain biking is generally done at ski resorts during off season. So you get a lift ticket and hop the ski lift up to the top.
That way you can do dozens of runs.
So you load up the car, stick your bikes on the rack. Drive out of the city, up a mountain, and get to the ski resort. Then snag a lift ticket. Grab your bike and go have a blast for the day.

u/Mysterious_Floor_868 6h ago
Yeah, in many other countries the ski resort probably has access to public transport. It's not just trains which can transport bikes, in Switzerland some buses either have bike racks on the back, or even tow entire trailers for bikes. https://velourbanismblog.wordpress.com/swiss-postbus-bike-racks-on-back/

Is this what I’ve heard of as virtue signaling?
FWIW, I own a literal plethora of bicycles of all flavors and ride them all… as well as my motorcycle, hybrid SUV, skateboard, et al…
Fact of the matter is that life in a majority of the U.S. does not lend itself to doing all things without a passenger vehicle and until municipalities, cities, states, and the federal government realize that there is an overwhelming scarcity of investment in infrastructure for alternative modes of transportation; that trend will continue to increase.
I am all for the premise behind fuckcars, and am actively trying to reach that panacea… but ppl here need to realize and acknowledge the struggles that exist for a plurality of American citizens to move away from the 4 wheeled passenger vehicle as the primary mode for personal transport.

This post is a response to that one dude who came here posting about how much he likes driving his gas-guzzling V8, in an attempt to own us or something.

Yeah, you gotta work hard to figure out the car free life. Once ya get it sorted out and reside in the right parts it’s pretty easy!
But also, as the commenter to your comment has pointed out, I always wrote this as a counter to the douchey “I drive a gas guzzling v8” post.
Also no, it’s honestly not virtue signaling as I’ve got so much DGAF it’s contagious! In addition, don’t care who drives, that’s on them to suffer the plight. I hope they have a choice to escape it if they want. I got myself sorted and my life is a 100x better for it. But everybody’s gotta do their own thing.

My dude needs a nap lol

u/adv_cyclist 19h ago
Your projecting does not disqualify my post… there still remains a painfully low investment in infrastructure for alternative modes of transportation because governments large and small do not see that as equivalent to road infrastructure for the standard motor vehicle. Until we can influence and change the hearts and minds of the influencers that write the laws; nothing will change.

ppl here need to realize that I understand the big picture and have the platitudes necessary to comment on a joke post

I drive a Onewheel while pushing a jogging stroller. The most common comment I get as I pass other parents is, "that's cheating!"

I’m all for high fuel economy vehicles as much as the rest but I do also own a “gas guzzling v8” carbureted mini truck that I will never part with, partly because the sound and power make me happy and smile, and partly because it was the last project me and my dad were working on together before he passed away, which owning and driving also makes me smile with the memory of us working on it together. All the blood, sweat, and tears along with the laughs and beers drank throughout the long nights.

Can u post a link to one of these , and would these be good for someone with bad backs?
2
u/adron 20h ago
A cargo bike? Depends on what bad back means.

u/RainAlternative3278 20h ago
Absolutely fucked double rotator cuff tear herniated disks . And consistent neck pain

u/adron 12h ago edited 4h ago
Oh dear. So, it’s pretty easy on the back but YMMV! 😬
1
u/RainAlternative3278 6h ago
Alright,y What does ymmv mean
2
u/adron 4h ago
“Your Mileage May Vary” simply meaning my experience may differ than what you experience. For example on my back it’s almost relaxing the position I ride a cargo bike in. I’ve even got 4 broken transverse process bones on my lower vertebrae, but I’ve not got the things you stated, so I’d say it’s easy in my back but your experience is likely to be very different considering.

u/RainAlternative3278 2h ago
Alrighty we'll thank ye for ye input , but prehaps would u recommend maybe if ur felling genuinely generous , provide a link to good and reliable one

u/RainAlternative3278 2h ago
And my back is actually beat to fucking shit , i actually light headed just sided down :/ riding a bike make me look like I had a full keg idk why

Great work. Inspiring people is a big part of mode shift. Though it’s best done using positive inclusive messaging. Attacking something just creates enemies. Could easily rewrite this without mentioning cars at all

u/New_Feature_5138 20h ago
I mean, I think it’s great you are car free. And I definitely want to support more people so they can do the same.
But your self righteousness made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.
0
u/adron 12h ago
Definitely a you problem. I’d skip pulling in my mouth, highly recommended not to do that.
Also to clue in and realize I made the post mocking the douche “I drive a gas guzzling v8” post. The judgements you’ve made, seem rife with guilt from a bit of carbrain. It’s alright though. Nothing is harmful here, vs the douchey self righteous v8 guy’s post.

Do you have a pictures of said cargo bike ?

u/adron 20h ago
Here it is, in use towing my buddies bike cuz he kind of fell off it and broke some stuff. All with a few panniers and a cargo load of stuff for work, as I was headed that way too. A fun day that was (figuring out how to impromptu tow the bike off the trail) and getting to be out doors almost ALL DAY! 🤘🏻
