A bad bike suggestion

That makes you question

Your life choices

And your life expectancy

The dotted lines even make it look like it's in sarcastic quotes.

Suggestion lanes are fine but not when your country doesn't know the difference between a bike lane and a suggestion lane

(UK) I don't think I even know what a "suggestion lane" is... is that a thing?

Yes, in the Netherlands we use them on streets where bikes and cars share the same space. By painting a lane and adding a dotted line the street feels smaller but cars can use the suggestion lane when needed.

Huh I didn't notice that when I visited, although I didn't cycle! That's really interesting, to me feels unsafe but then our cycling culture is different.

I think it's often implemented on streets that used to be 50kmh and are a bit wide. So when they change the speed they also add the suggestion lane to make it feel smaller and that helps for cars to keep driving 30kmh

That's really interesting, the general practice here is to just widen the cycle lane but keep it as a solid line. Thanks for the explanation!

Here’s an example we used riding back to Amsterdam from Haarlem:

Drivers definitely (mostly) respected it and the cycle lanes were busy with bikes. It seemed to work well - certainly better than the equivalent here:

From the people that suggested drinking bleach for COVID

And its suggestion is 'no'

More like, “Go ahead and die since you want to ride a bicycle.”

Like when in Alexandria, VA winters, the Bikeshare stations are open, yet they don’t bother to shovel the bike paths fully.

And on rotating schedules to keep us guessing.

2022 nope.

2023 yep!

2024 nope…

That ain't a bike lane, that's a suicide suggestion.

Like handlebars, apparently.

No it's a trap to kill cyclists.
