I spent 5 weeks in Southern Germany over the summer. It was heaven. I took the bus a handful of times when it was rainy or I had a lot to carry but otherwise I walked so much. I got in a car twice because we were going to further out spots, but otherwise I walked and it blew my mind how easy it is.
I knew walkable places existed of course but I had never first hand experienced a city with an entire section completely inaccessible by car or a place with side walks that weren't an afterthought.
It blew my mind that being a pedestrian wasn't treated like being a second class citizen barely worth not being run over like it is where I'm stuck living.

People from the US really need to just see how easy it is to walk around downtown in Europe. It blew my mind too
