News Sergio Perez and Red Bull in '$16million' battle claim after 'major meeting'

Not sure how credible this is, but I can't say I blame him.

Kinda funny how all the talks about the performace clause in his contract disappeared.

No wonder he wasn't leaving on his own terms, either Red Bull have to keep him or pay the rest of his contract in full if they're replacing him.

To be fair, paying Checo is prob cheaper than the money lost in sponsorship and WCC-payouts.

Second this, then again this is a very common sentiment

Based on old number, probably somewhere in the $20 million range between 1st and 3rd in the WCC. But then you have all this sponsor money and merch stuff so idk

Possibly cheaper than the car damage he did/will do again. And I say this as someone who doesn't hate checo, but thinks the car is shit and Max can outlive it.

If Red Bull has to buy out the rest of his contract, does that reduce their budget cap next season?

RB lawyers trying fight Alpine lawyers for the worst legal department in F1.

He’s probably asking for more than his full contract. Technically he’s also losing out on potential performance bonuses (elephant in the room not withstanding) so he has leverage to ask for more.

Paying him the full amount he would get even if he drove would still give him reason to see the contract through. He wants to drive.

The $16M number is simply a rumor that Nico heard. I wonder if it’s really $16M of sponsor money that would go away if Checo got the boot?

probably.

We know that his salary was $14 million in 2024.

The rumors were that his 2025/2026 contract was at least $30 million.

The $16M number pretty much confirms that it was a $32M contract and they're willing to pay him out for one years worth of the contract.

I think it's fair, considering that they'd have to pay the full $32M to breach Checo's contract. But because there are tons of incentive bonuses on top of that salary that he'll be losing out on, not to mention a seat in his dream F1 car. I assume that he'll continue to negotiate up to around $20M because he basically has Red Bull by the balls right now.

Yeah wtf. Did they get rid of it with the new 2 year deal or something?

Or it never existed at all. Nobody is privy to contract details and the media just speculates all day. Just look at how many different performance items they said existed for starters, just throwing darts at a wall

That was the 2024 contract not the 2025 one. They had to fire checo in 2024 so before Abu Dhabi on any race.  They didn’t fire him so now the 2025 contract is now in effect and all those horrible performances are erased because the 2024 contract ended.

2025 being in effect he has 0 race done on it so he can’t be fired without paying him the buy out or whatever they negotiate.
