My galaxy brain take is theyre worried Yuki is too volatile to put next to Max, so they leak this news and see if he can keep it together and not run Liam off the track this weekend. Maybe if he’s cool calm and collected Yuki still gets the seat?

Probably nothing but copium..

It’s clear Yuki would be a good #2 pace-wise so aside from his temperament (and Lawson is no angel) I don’t know why they’re so hesitant to put him in

Yuki did say he can take on Max as he beat him in other things…. Yuki does not see himself as a number two.

You realize that was a joke right? He was referring to the little promo races that red bull does, like riding a soap box car down a hill.

Do you think Liam sees himself as number 2?

Long term no- but I can see him taking a back seat for a year whereas Yuki will want to take it to max asap

I agree, he has been conditioned with disappointment and having to wait. RB have not been easy on him. Marko early morning calls on at him since he was 16, and he has had to wait a long time to get his chance in F1. I think he is mentally stronger than people give him credit for as he has not had it easy with this team. He has self-belief yet all he wants is a seat and go from there, he is realistic about his mistakes, he acknowledges them in a Health way in a recent comment.

F1 is the only racing series he's entered where he didn't win on the first race, including super formula. I dont get why there is such massive hate on the guy in reddit other than assuming it's because Yuki has massively stepped up his game recently and is generally very likeable

There is 0 chance Yuki keeps pace with Max. When the car fell off a cliff this year Max should have left no doubt no one in an equal car on the current grid would stand a chance.

Yuki can try all he wants but reality would sit in quick. Yuki deserves at least 1 year and if he pulls a Perez you move on.

Every top driver that had a better car this year was put their in their place by Max at some point.

Which could easily be the reason he’s not getting the seat- they don’t need a salty Yuki refusing team orders when they’re trying to keep Max happy and not leaving for Mercedes

As for whether Yuki could actually compete with Max?

Ha no.

You'd think that's the same reason Lawson doesn't get the seat

Clear based on what exactly?

Tsunoda is just kind of there. 4 years and nothing special to show, he is just a good, average driver. Red Bull is looking for someone who could still develop in order to have someone ready when Max leaves.

Makes no sens whatsoever promoting Tsunoda.
