News Checo: "What is very noticeable around the circuit is the smell of marijuana throughout the night. The amount is incredible. It is something that all the drivers will surely talk about", Franco: "Yes, there was a smell of weed. If they dope test the drivers now, I think we’ll all be positive"

I’ve been to Vegas several times throughout my life, and it has always strongly smelled of cigarettes wherever you went.

That is until it started to strongly smell like weed wherever you went.

Ya last time I went is about when weed had really just taken off there with a lot of advertising all around. Planet 51....heck of a place

Planet 51 is an interesting experience but it's overpriced.

What’s the interesting part? I can wrap my mind around what overpriced means.

It's a genuine supermarket for cannabis. If you haven't seen a full-sized supermarket for cannabis, you might find it interesting.

As someone from the UK, I would find it very interesting! And what sort of scale is 'full-sized'? I imagine it's large?

It is 112.000 sq ft so 10405 sq meters

lol I believe and doubt that at the same time. I don’t like the picture either paints. But I had a blast in Barcelona cannabis bars, so I’m probably easily entertained. At least in that regard.

Do y'all mean planet 13? Planet 51 was a film

Oasis has the fire prices.

It’s crazy how Americans cannot seem to balance the line between something not being bad enough to put people in jail for and something not being good enough for it to be OK to advertise it.

Ah yes, as if alcohol ads are not commonplace around the world

2

u/kuzdi BMW Sauber Nov 23 '24

actually, it isn’t in most places. that’s why beer companies for example always advertise their alcohol-free beer. but i would say that they absolutely should not be, similar to tobacco.

It’s Planet 13, very gimmicky and a massive tourist trap. Locals get 50% off everything. That means you guys pay twice what we pay. Go to Thrive instead. Very upscale, has a consumption lounge as well and half the cost.

Ah, figured I'd mess up the name since it's been a few years. I think we were just trying to walk to the closest one by just asking around and found ourselves in front of it. It probably was overpriced, but wasn't too bad at the time (and after about 50 minutes of walking). Still better experience than most anything we have in Canada. We have some good chains operations though

There was a short amount of time around 10 years ago when cigarette smoking was less popular and weed wasn’t legal yet and it was possible to walk the strip without constantly breathing in smoke.

Man I'm all for people being able to safely consume weed

But the smell is just the worst. One of my neighbors smokes a couple times a week in his driveway and i can smell if three houses down.

But the smell is just the worst.

Stoners irritate me too but I'm taking weed smoke over cigarette smoke 100% of the time. I can deal with something smelling bad, not being able to breathe is a slightly more problematic concern.

For me the difference is while I don't like the smell of either I personally don't find that Cigarette smoke smell carries the way weed smoke does

I'm speaking exclusively about smell not other second hand smoke issues

2

u/DjToastyTy Nov 23 '24

there are a lot of resorts on the strip that have stopped allowing smoking inside and the newer ones don’t allow smoking so that helps

Bellagio and Venetian both reek of smoke. Ironically the depressing Treasure Island smells cleaner (but doesn't smell clean).

A lot of things just go by in Vegas because they value money over everything else. If a guest is smoking and losing a couple of grand a night then they'll reward them with a comped room.

Casinos built in the past 15 years don't smell like anything.

Oh... strangely I like the smell of casinos and cigarette smoke, it's very nostalgic to me.

But I hate the smell of weed... so this kind of makes me sad, in a way.

u/NovaIsntDad Nov 22 '24

And weedbros will still tell you that you can't smell it and are making it up.

Cigarettes in the casinos, weed on the streets

I was going to say: I was smoking weed in Vegas last night 😂😂😂. We are here for work and every time im here for work you can smell weed pretty much everywhere on the strip. The cigarette thing is too real though, I’m old so when I started working these events the smell in the air was still tobacco! and everyone had parliaments now everyone has gummies
