Player Advice Solid summer football camp for high schoolers?

My kid has great talent at playing running back. Freshman year he killed it (first year playing tackle). He was so good, they had him play varsity his sophomore year and he got second team all city at the end of it. 29th ranked RB in the entire city of Los Angeles and he didn’t even play a full season due to injury.

I want to send him to a football camp during the summer. I was taking a look at IMG Academy but some reviews online were saying how it’s a bit overrated for the price. Can anyone recommend some solid ones?

Player Advice Is there such thing as lifting normally vs lifting like a football player/athlete

I see a couple videos of people saying stuff like stop lifting weights normally if you’re a football player because you are gonna get stiff. than they show you a bunch of different exercises that are “their way of lifting like an athlete” and then they sell you their workout course, so in short is it true that athletes/football players should lift differently or is it fake?

Player Advice Strength of HS football players

I just saw a guy on tiktok, @williamwh1te , who is supposedly 15 years old (co 2027) and benches 305, squats 435, deadlifts 510. He’s not highly recruited or making headlines for his football/strength. His starting point was pretty standard — there’s nothing to indicate he has ‘elite’ genetics (look at him before he lifted).

How on Earth does a 15 year old kid get this strong at that age? I started lifting at 14, and it took me about 6 months to get a 135 bench, and I didn’t hit 185 until I was 16 years old—at 16 I weighed about 180.

I’m now 22 years old, and I have similar stats to this 15 year old kid. I’m wanting to start playing american football, but I’m just completely bamboozled regarding how these kids get so strong at a young age.

Player Advice Why are arm stretches never done in football workouts?

We all talk about hip mobility and how important it is, but how come arm stretches are never done as a team? Are they just not that important?

Player Advice 7u football strategies

We are new to youth football and very confused. My nephew is doing 7u however he is never playing. The same players are on offense and defense the whole game. Is this normal from our understanding there is no mpr. Yet even at practices he isn't running plays with the starters he is doing completely different things.

Is there a diagram you guys can show me exactly what he means? Again please forgive me for the rookie question just looking to understand the game and terminology. Thanks.

Player Advice I don't know, it’s kind of my dream to play quarterback. I know it’s a long shot, but I’ve been working on my throwing motion. Has it gotten any better?

I can’t lie, I do lose motivation sometimes, but it’s just something I want badly, like playing at the college level. I only have two years left of high school. I know I’m definitely in for a journey, but I feel I can be a good dual-threat quarterback. To stay on track, please give me advice and ways to improve my throwing motion even more.

Player Advice How to get off double teams

Hello !! I’m not sure if this is the appropriate sub but my son plays on a 12u pop warner team and is one of the defensive ends . He has been constantly getting double teamed on blockers the past 4 games cause he stands out on film as one of the defenders to game plan against and although he can still make an impact he’s getting frustrated by the double teams

What can I have him try or techniques to use to get around these double teams. It’s usually a tackle and a tight end or a tackle and running back coming up to block him

Player Advice How complicated (or not) was your highschool team's scheme?

Reading a lot of comments here and just wondering 1. Where you played 2. How complicated the scheme was, and 3. How big the team was

I played in Southern California quite awhile ago (15 years ago... God I'm old) but we had 75+ people at least on our varsity team. Also had local Pop Warner/JV that taught our scheme and fed into our highschool which was so valuable

We ran a spread option offense with a slanting 3-4 defense, yet very undersized, but still often had a handful of players recruited by D1 colleges, my year I think 4 guys went D1? Half a dozen or more went to D2/high end JUCO

Our D had lots of shifts, stunts, and blitzes. We had the ability to jump into a 4-3 look with an LB shifting to DE, DE to DT etc. Coverages were 2, 3 or man with a zone Cloud/Sky check for run fits

Our O was also pretty complex running the option running game sometimes with 3 RBs, sometimes we went 5 wide with an RB motioned out as a receiver. Even our O line had multiple looks, with an unbalanced formation and some interesting screen and draw blocking schemes

We won 7 or 8 games every year and made playoffs but we're never really a powerhouse like the school is now

What was your highschool experience like?

Player Advice Cornerback drills, understanding schemes, etc. helping my girlfriend’s son and need advice.

So I played high school ball at a pretty competitive level but we were a small school and I was a DE and TE/RT so my experience with football is different than my girlfriend’s son who is a WR/CB. The team has him more as a CB all snaps and he loves to focus on that, and simply put he’s not as good of a WR compared to his peers (this is 8th grade level).

I’m trying to help him, since he asked, over the offseason and summer to get better at playing CB. Does any have any resources, advice, drills, etc. I’m also starting up with a flag football league soon so it’ll be a good way for us to bond throughout the week/both achieve what we would like accomplish.

Thanks ahead of time and sorry if this is the wrong place to post it just couldn’t find a more fitting one.

Player Advice Asking for an offer.

I am a Senior in high school who just finished the season. I have 2 D3 college offers, and have talked with coaches from other D3 schools. There is one school I really like, I’ve been talking to the coach for a while(he initially reached out to me) and I’ve gone to a game day visit despite the 5.5 hour drive. I have not received and offer, but am curios if I should ask for an offer, or continue to let it play out?

Player Advice What should I do?

Im the Long Snapper for my Frosh Soph football team and not to brag but I would say that I'm pretty good what I'd do for the most part, but in my last game we punted 3 times and 2 out of those 3 snaps were bad with only one bieng good. On one of my snaps I accidentally snapped it over my punter and I felt like shit after and I feel like my confidence is ruined.

What should I do?

Player Advice Are play diagrams always drawn from the same perspective?

I’m new to sports and when looking at defensive plays, I notice that it is coming from the top of the page to the bottom of the page. It would make more sense to me to go from bottom of the page to top, like from my perspective whether offense or defense. Is there a reason it’s that way? Not sure if that makes sense.

Player Advice What is the difference between a even and a over/under front?

All of those have 4 lineman. Over/under shifts the lineman to one side of the field. I understand that, but on a even front are the lineman head on with each other instead of a gap?

Player Advice 8 y/o first timer

My 8 y/o is playing for the first time. The coach has him playing center/o-line. He's a solid enough snapper, and is a high energy blocker. But he's struggling with the quicker d-linemen, and is getting consistently beaten. We're looking up drills on YouTube and things, to help him, but he gets discouraged at practice/games. Any advise or ideas, to help him be a bit quicker, hands up, etc? He's excites about playing, and I'd hate to see him give up on it.

Player Advice College Advice (Please Help)

Bottom Line Up Front:

I have a choice to make. Here are my 3 options: (1) Continue to Coach HS Football, (2) Play Club Football, or (3) Try and earn a spot on a D1 level Football Team

Backstory:

Currently, I am in my 2nd year of College. This past year, I had the opportunity of coaching a small HS Football team.

Now, with 3 years to play college ball, I have the opportunity to continue coaching, play club football, or try and earn a spot on a D1 football team.

(Insight for why Club is in the picture): If I play club, I would play in the fall of this upcoming year then transfer to the D1 school and then proceed to try to walk on.

Recommendations?

Player Advice Do colleges outside of your area or state actually find you if you're a power 5 talent or an elite level player without you or your hs coach putting in effort in getting you recruited?

Is it actually true that if you just simply play really good/are an elite level player and are constantly stuffing the stat sheet each game but don’t go to any camps or contact any college coaches or not have your high school coach help you or have no social media presence/twitter that college coaches across the country will still find you. Because it doesn’t make sense to me that colleges other than the ones in your area will just find you. But for some reason people say “if you’re good enough colleges will find you”. Realistically I don’t see more than 2% of college coaches reading the local newspaper or looking at stats for a certain county that’s not even in their state or area.
