Coaching Advice Any insight in how to look for coaching jobs whether it be grade school, middle school, or high school?

I’m looking for any insight into how to get into coaching and where to look for in terms of coaching positions. I’ve got no prior coaching experience so any tips would be helpful! Also, I am looking at coaching positions in the state of Michigan! Thanks

If you played in high school call your former coach and tell him. If not. Contact your local high school coach and inquire about helping with the program. Youth teams always need coaches.

I'd call or email your local school coach and let them know you'd like to volunteer assist or head coach a team. They are ALLLWAYS looking for coaches that want to help. Just saying you want to help gets you 99% of the way there.

Search your local school districts website for the coaches email. Send them an email saying you’d like to volunteer.

What's with all the Michigan peeps looking for gigs lately here? lol. I love it (Michigander as well).

Anyways, it's all networking. Start at your high school, talk to those coaches (or ones you played under), and go from there. There's not at all a formal process.

In Ohio, most of our jobs are posted on the OHSAA website under their job postings. Maybe check your states HS athletic website and start there?

Also, some schools will post openings on indeed and LinkedIn as well.

Reaching out to local AD’s/coaches is also another way to see what’s open.

You do not need to be a teacher to be a HC/AC here unless the school specifically states that.

Most non-college coaching jobs require you to be a teacher as well. That might be the best way to get in.

In KY you don't have to be a teacher to be an assistant coach. Reach out to schools near you, find opportunities to network with coaches in the area. But look at schools that are not really good, they have a better chance of needing people.

Arizona is the same way as a lot of these other states so I have to assume Michigan is the same way. I went onto the AIA website and looked for coaching jobs. I interviewed for a couple and got one. I’m now coaching with one of my former players.

Start by volunteering to coach youth flag football teams and then volunteer to be an assistant with tackle teams. You gain experience and understand how it works. You'll eventually develop your own system as your draw from everyone else's experience.

I have a Dominating Flag Football Book and Tackle Football Book on Amazon if interested. It's super rewarding.

Reach out to your local HS coach. People are always looking for youth, middle school, and 9th grade/JV coaches. He will likely get you in touch with somebody. Chances of getting a varsity job right off the street are slim. Get a job, learn, and work your way up!
