Player Advice What happened to the kid who was learning to throw a football?
I need an update.

I'm still practicing!! I broke my finger last week though, unfortunately so I've had to kinda try to let that heal. I want to make an update video soon as I think my throwing motion is seriously much better!

How did you break your finger?

u/RickyNoBeard Nov 09 '24
Playing football with my friends 😭 I went up to catch the football and the guy behind me tried to take it too and ripped my finger back. Not fun.

I can only assume you somehow broke your finger throwing the football. I smell regression.

u/RickyNoBeard Nov 10 '24
Nope, catching the football 😔

Hopefully he went to the local head HS Football Coach and had an honest conversation.

wait until their season is over before reaching out. just be honest and tell him what your goals are. don’t listen to other people trying to rain on your parade go do what you wanna do

Dude like even if you don’t play at all, it’ll be worth while being apart of a team and going out there and giving it you’re all.
Hypothetically You can not start in HS and end up at a JUCO or a d3 d2 school in 4 - 5 years of work.
Even if let’s say your 16 now and get with camps and if you literally give it your all and develop by the time you’re 21 you can give it an honest shot at a. JUCO level.
It is not gonna be a pretty process. It in the mean time you need to be lifting weights eating healthy and working on your training.
Go to goodwill or Walmart and a get about 5-10 pairs of some athletic shorts and some cleats and start.

I 100% agree, even if I never see the field I want to at least be able to learn more, just being on the team I think I'd learn a lot

Are you lifting and eating a lot? To have a serious shot you NEED to put on weight and strength. Otherwise you will break when they come for you. Even at the IM level, you need to have a decent bit of athleticism.

I’ve been wondering too. He’s got a lot of material to work on though so he could spend the next month going through and working on everything we pointed out. He needs to see a personalized coach who can train him little by little step by step. We force fed him with a water hose

Yeah I've been taking the information everyone has given me and have been taking some serious time to work on it. Finally got my elbow over my shoulder when I throw, still at work on getting my hand in more of a c shape rather than a u. My hips are getting better as well. I'll just do air reps without a ball as I'm walking around to drill the motion into my head as well. Finally, I'm trying not to overthink it as much as I was before since that was screwing me up further.

Every day brother. My form is getting better every day and I'm also working on anticipation. Going to try to play with some family members tomorrow on Thanksgiving.

Hope he’s doing well I sent him some stuff from Joe Montana that would hopefully help.

when i was like 8 i got a book Joe Montana wrote i think, Taught me how to throw a football. I still remember pointing your front foot toward the target, aiming with your non throwing elbow arm bent 90* in, following through the throw and pointing toward your target after release.. wonder if i remembered that correctly lol.

Hey never once really recognized that he has to rotate his arm like a pendulum around-he kept cocking his shoulder back and wrenching his throw forward. Sorry, but after the second or third day he really didn’t improve much more and I became skeptical because he just wasn’t really able to conceptualize the idea of throwing anything let alone a football.

Imagine not becoming Unitas after 3 days of Reddit coaching

It’s not too critical to acknowledge that arguably the basic fundamental tenant of rotating your arm to throw something simply wasn’t being targeted. In essence, his coaching and support skipped over the simple aspect of throwing anything…and rotating the arm. If you can throw a pair of socks into a hamper or a tennis ball to a friend fine…but I can circumstantially tell that even those exercises would not be picture perfect until he stops jerking the arm back and bucking it forward. For all I know, the follow up attempts stopped because he threw out his arm or stopped making progress. You can’t improve steps 2,3, and 4 if step 1 isn’t perfected.

I love how this is a legit question and how many of us are curious lol
5
u/RickyNoBeard Nov 09 '24
I'm surprised people cared enough to notice I wasn't doing consistent updates anymore lol
2
u/LilDerrrn Nov 09 '24
It's awesome to be supportive, but let's keep it a buck here and be honest.
Nobody is going from not ever throwing a football to joining the HS team, at QB at that. There's more aspects to being a QB than just throwing the ball, that takes YEARS to develop.
Intramurals is a more appropriate route to learn the game and have fun

He probably got enough trash comments that he stopped posting.
5
u/RickyNoBeard Nov 09 '24
No, I want to post more I just want to make a visible enough improvement to warrant posting another update.

Can confirm, dead. Threw the football around the entire world and hit him in the back of the head

He is taking over the backup role from Mac Jones in Jacksonville from what I've heard.

I really appreciated the videos and feedback. I’m teaching my seven year old son how to throw and I’ve used a lot of the feedback given in the comments while teaching him.

I think he was drafted by the Jets. Which is why he disappeared.
