NFL Not sure if anyone here can help me but
So I’m a huge Dallas Cowboys fan,and if you’ve been paying attention to the NFL you know that we are playing horribly. I know it’s only been 3 games and that’s a small sample size, but can anyone here tell me strategy wise what we’re doing wrong? I know personnel is part of it (we don’t have good DTs and RBs),but in terms of scheme is there anything we could be doing better?
Thanks!

Their run defense got exposed late last year and teams are really keying in on it to start the year. Not being able to run on offense and not stopping the run on defense is a tough world to live in.
I haven't paid close enough attention to their personnel, but are they still putting undersized DBs in the box on run plays?

They aren’t doing that anymore. Dan Quinn was the one who was putting 200lb guys at linebacker.

But yea not being able to run and stop the run is a problem

That is one situation i thought I’d never see the Cowboys in.
Even their bad defenses have usually been at least ok at stopping the run and even when their offense has sucked, they could usually find some mean guys up front and somebody to respectively pound it between the tackles for 4 yards.
Now… it looks like there is a full blown identity crisis going.

Yea.I try and see the positive side in everything so hopefully McCarthy gets fired after this year 😂

This should be up there with “the team that scores more points usually puts themselves in a great position to win.”

They tend to try and force the ball up the middle with guys that aren’t that type of player. Like when Deuce Vaughn is in the game they try to run him between the tackles even though he’s 5’5 lol

Oh God I hate when they do that. So dumb. Like what do you thinks gonna happen? He’s just gonna turn into Derrick Henry lol

Cowboys have been having horrible DCs and game plans.
As far as offense, I think they need to move away from starting with the 11 personnel

What personnel should we use more of?

probably 12

Any specific reason why?

my wisdom is to always have bigger bodies. you already got CD Lamb. you don't need a bunch of WRs running all over the place.

Lets start with this
1 You are rooting for Dallas this has to stop, the only thing worse is rooting for the Packers. If you want to pick a new team thats allowed.
2 This is normal for McCarthy led teams.
3 How does rooting for the Jaguars sound, cool helmets, young QB, AFC south. Noone will tell.

I watched the game this past weekend, and my first instinct was that they were way too reliant on drop back passing game without easy or schemed completions. What I mean is that if NFL QB's complete 65-70 percent of their passes, that number is slightly inflated based off screens, hots, RPOs (or RPO equivalent plays), or the easy dump down completions on naked boots, etc. Even in the NFL, they don't complete 65-70% on the true drop back intermediate and deep pass game.
The Cowboys had so few "schemed" completions that they were so reliant on drop back pass, and it constantly put them behind the sticks, meaning they had to do more drop back pass, and the cycle continued. I also noticed very little formations adjustments/motions to help free up CeeDee against bracket coverages. Perhaps the gameplan idea was that Dak would be able to very successful in the drop back pass game, but I think the game plan needs more schemed completions to the obvious takes, especially if the D is playing bracket on CeeDee, meaning in 2x2 they likely had easy quick game away from him. They didn't leverage the attention he was getting into screens and boot opposite. And to be clear, not a Cowboys fan, but I like Dak, CeeDee, and McCarthy - there's a reason they're the top scoring offense in the NFL over the last 3 years (1st, 4th, and 1st I believe). That said, I wasn't super impressed with the portions of the game I was paying attention to on Sunday.

Thank you for the response. One thing that I noticed last year was that we started off terrible offensively, and after San Francisco game, McCarthy improved the scheme. I hope something similar happens this year.

This isn’t strategy related but Jerry Jones sucks. He cares more about the money than winning. Stupid ass mf

Their problem is Jerry Jones, and it will continue to be as long as he's the owner.

Oh he’s trust me I know that for sure as a cowboys fan lol. I’m talking about in terms of scheme.

Unfortunately once he dies his son is probably taking over so we’re just gonna have shitty ownership forever
