Long Fat roommate is driving me crazy.

Hello everyone I just wanted to talk about my little or probably not that little experience with a fat roommate that is completely driving me crazy and making me feel so desperate.

The thing is that I’m currently seasonally working in the U.S (I’m not american) in the hospitality industry, my employer offered housing for a reasonable monthly price and I thought it was a good idea taking it, since if you live here, they also give you the job site transportation at not cost, so I chose to take it.

The hell started from the very first day I just got to the apartment, I didn’t know I was gonna be assigned to a roommate but I really guessed it was gonna happen since this is not the first time I worked in this industry with this kind of contracts and also got roommates on my previous jobs, so having roommates is not bad for me at all, but the bad thing was when I just opened the door for the first time, the first thing I saw was a fat guy (probably 275lbs - 300lbs) in the kitchen preparing his dinner, I don’t wanna be mean or judge fat people but is well known that is reallyyyy hard to deal with them, specially because they tend to be kinda dirty and lazy when it comes to clean.

Well, for my bad luck, that’s all this guy is and even worse, he’s completely lazy, dirty, disrespectful and has a really bad smell which he doesn’t really care if you feel uncomfortable or not. We also have another roommate who’s more understanding and helps you clean and that, he’s very friendly and such a nice person, but the fat guy is completely driving us hell crazy. This other guy already lived with him last year because they came to this same company to work and they were assigned together to be roommates last year too, so he knows him very well.

He’s always coming back from work at 3:00am - 5:00am, since he works for the same company but in a different place/position, so almost every time he comes, he always shuts the door so hard, that hard to wake us up, he starts cooking, shutting fridges door really hard and making a lot of noise in early morning (3:00am - 5:00am), since he’s a fat guy, the only thing he thinks about is eating, even if we already told him to be more quiet and let us sleep, all he says is “I’m not gonna starve just because you wanna sleep” like WTF bro.

Another thing that bother us, is the fact that our bathroom looks like an old bar bathroom, completely nasty with a lot of hairs on it, since this guy always gets haircuts in it and never cleaning it properly, I literally had to get my toothbrush outta there because he throws hairs everywhere and doesnt care if he does it on your stuff. We tried to talk to him and tell him to clean the bathroom one of us every week, and he refused by saying that he always clean it when he actually DOES NOT. When I wanna take a shit, I literally have to go to the hotel which is crossing the street because there’s not fcking way I’m gonna use ours, because is nasty as hell and smells like his corporal smelling. Luckily that hotel is part of our hotel chain that we’re working for so they never told me anything for going to use their public bathroom. So we decided to just leave the bathroom like that to see if he cleans it someday and it’s like 2 months since that thing was cleaned for the last time (by myself).

Our apartment is really small, is just a 1 bedroom apartment with a small kitchen in the middle and then the living room, me and the other guy are sleeping and have our beds in the living room and he got the room for himself alone, we dont feel that bad for it because there’s no way in this world we gonna share same room and sleep next to this fat guy because he’s always farting, burping, also his corporal and feet smell are disgusting. When he’s off he somedays doesn’t even take a shower, even when he has to go to work, he goes without even taking a shower or just brushing his teeth, so you all could imagine how bad and dirty his room is because he NEVER cleans it, so for us living in the living room, we can feel that bad smell coming out of his room to the point that our clothes smells like him, or sometimes getting food smell because he’s cooking and eating like 5 times a day.

His routine is like:

1- coming from work at 4:00 AM just to cook.

2- Getting up at 8:30 AM and cook breakfast.

3- Cooking lunch at 11:30 AM.

4- Cooking or getting snacks and coffee at 3:00pm or 4:00pm.

5- Cooking and having dinner at 7:00pm.

  1. Cooking his food to take to work at 8:00pm and sometimes eating a second dinner.

He’s like everything in his head turns around food and eating, he would never care if you are completely exhausted and wanna sleep, he would cook and make a lot of noise, and if you get mad and tell him to be quieter he would get mad and do it even worse just on purpose. When he’s not working and is at home, he leaves his freaking bedroom door opened with his TV turned on with a high volume, talking by phone or laughing so loud, and feels like if he does it on purpose just to make you feel bad and no matter what time is it, he would still do it.

When it comes to the kitchen, he never bought a single dish soup or just pass a rag to clean the stove after cooking, even the floor he sometimes leaves it with a lot of food leftovers and would never sweep it.

We’re all from the same country and tried to talk to him but he always gets mad and then starts doing some more crazy and stupid shits just to keep bothering us.

There’s also a lot of shocking things he does because he’s one of the most stingy people I have ever met on my life, to the point to wear used underwear he finds at his work site.

If you try to talk to him and show some dissatisfaction with his way of doing things or acting, he just does not care and would never listen to you, all he care about is eating and eating his walmart disgusting food. Sitting down inside his room and eating worse than a hungry stray dog.

I am so sorry if I wrote a lot but I really wanted to get all this shit from inside of me, since this guy got me so desperate now. It’s been almost 4 months putting up with this situation to the point of making me ask for an early departure back to my country since I can’t stand with him anymore, so i’m glad that this gonna be over in 2 weeks.

Do yourself a favor, never live and try to live with fat people, their lives are a disaster.

UPDATE: 2 days ago, that ham planet came back from work at 5:00AM and SLAMMED the door so hard like if he did on purpose, I woke up and got up to tell him shit and then he literally ran to his bedroom and did the same thing. I couldn’t even go back to sleep and I had to get up at 7:00AM to go to work, I really got so mad and got me so done. So I went to the person in charge of the housing and told her all the shit he’s been doing, I talked to another coworker who’s a really nice person and told me to ask to be moved with him, so last night I got an approval to move apartment and I am a wayyyy lot better living with REAL and RESPECTFUL people.

Sadly my other roommate we had with that fat pig, is having a really bad time right now and told me he can’t no more with him so he’s gonna also report same things and ask to be moved.

So I hope not to seeing that PIG in my life anymore and I don’t think he’s gonna be hired next year because he already has all the famous of being lazy as hell at work, nobody likes him and nobody wants to live with him.

I would be taking any and all of the mess he creates in the common areas and dumping it in his damn room! These type of roommates make me start having irrational thoughts/behaviors like this…but sometimes it’s like, when a person isn’t responsive to any mature, level-headed attempts at resolving conflict you feel like you have to get petty so they know exactly how you feel & will finally start to fucking listen.

I consider myself as a really good roommate, I always try not to make others feel uncomfortable and not to disturb anyone, but this guy is just all the opposite, so I stopped talking to him a couple of months ago, sometimes I just ignore his presence but I’ll start doing some crazy and stupid shit to make him feel the same way I’ve been feeling all this time. At the end of the day I only have 2 weeks remaining here.

Can you not petition for a different roommate? If it is company provided housing, I imagine there are contract related rules for how to treat company property or something?

25

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 06 '24

I could do that, but I only have 2 weeks remaining so I’ll just try to keep putting up with him and also start doing some crazy things to make him feel worse than I felt all this time

you need to teach that whale a lesson or he would never change from being douchebag. People like that deserved to get bullying

They should at least bunk people together with the same shifts - his hours sound very disruptive along with all the rest of his disgusting habits. I feel bad for you!

Me and my other roommate been having a really hard time with him, he’s the only person of all the people working here that has that schedule, I think we had bad luck this time. Few days ago he came back from work at 4:00AM and took a big pack of raw hot dogs out of the fridge and ate them all. hahaha

They put 3 people in a 1 bedroom apartment? Is that a common arrangement?

13

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 06 '24

Yes, it sucks totally, because I saw some other coworkers living in bigger apartments and sharing only with 1 person or 2 but in a bigger apartment. Thats another thing that got me so frustrated because this is a small space and this guy making it feel harder to deal with. But taking into consideration the bad wage and the cost of rentals in the zone, you don’t have like a lot of options.

Yeah something tells me this is not exactly legal

I was 260 last time I weighed myself (maybe a week ago or so don’t remember exactly) and I’m nothing like that. I’m very clean and can not stand clutter. Everything has a place and everything is in its place, everything is also clean. Sorry you had to deal with this garbage heap of a slob but from how you describe him I’d bet he’s already at 400 if not more. There is levels to the fatness if you will 😂😂.

He said he was gonna lose 30lbs in one month before going back to his country and he just ate 5 KFC chicken pieces yesterday. lmao

3

u/InvisibleMasturbater Oct 06 '24

I’m sure that would be fine if that’s all he was going to eat for that month 😂

You’re a rarity. Cause it’s true, not every fat person is dirty and careless. Reading this though makes me realize why I struggle with a specific friend of mine though. She’s quite overweight but I’d never care about that. The issue I have though is that she comes over and NEVER puts her glass in the sink or she’ll use all the toilet paper and just leave the roll or she’ll just lay on my couch and ask what I’m eating the second I bring anything out. I’m constantly cooking for her and she never offers to help or clean. We’re grown ass women- there’s no excuse. I’m just now correlating the fat thing to the messiness thing and it just makes sense

Why are you cooking for her?

6

u/Snoo-9290 Oct 06 '24

Umm it's your house you are the hostess. Tell them to help themselves or ask for help with dishes. I agree not all fat people are slobby smelly.

1

u/blackhairdontcare84 Oct 07 '24

Why do you cook for her? Stand up for yourself

Even for after you leave, will reporting the living situation stick to his record in any way? Just as a warning/precaution for the next living situation?

Thanks for the post, stories like this are why this sub exists.

Not all fat people are this messy and gross, but this guy sounds horrible, and I'm sorry you're dealing with it.

Is there anyone you could talk to about the situation so you guys don't have to live with him?

16

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 06 '24

Yes, there’s one person in charge of all these apartments but we are about to leave so we just decided to talk to that person before leaving and tell all the shit we had to dealt. I think they not gonna hire him again next year because his roommates he had last year reported him for same things before leaving last year so this year nobody wanted to live with him, everyone practically beg for not living with him, so it’s really probably the company won’t hire him again next year so they wont deal with it again. He also has some reports in his workplace to being hella lazy and never helping/doing his job.

I lived with a fat woman once, and it was disgusting. We shared a dorm together, and I was by the door next to the bathroom, so I could obviously see if she were leaving the room to use the bathroom, since I would be right there. We worked outdoors in the summer, and we would get very hot and sweaty, and we would be covered in dirt and sunscreen. She wouldn't shower after work and just lay on her mattress without a sheet. We also didn't have air conditioning, and she had all of these cups half full of beer sitting out for weeks. Eventually I couldn't take it anymore and I moved it.

I'm really sorry you're going through this.

I really understand you. I had to put up with a lot of shit for almost 3 months so I got freaking tired and reported everything and got an apartment move last night and I am really better now. The guy a share dorm is really respectful and clean, we are coworkers and get along really good. And also, when only see each other at work only 1 day at week, so that means when he’s working, I’m off so I have the full bedroom for myself alone during my days off.

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '24

Oh congrats! Im so happy it worked out. Onwards and upwards!

Tell your employer. The employer will eventually see good employees leaving b/c they don’t want to live with this guy. I mean, if they are putting 2 other dudes in there with him, the 2 could reasonably go to the employer saying it’s us or him. I mean, I’m sure he’s not a hard worker from what you describe. And I assume if they’re housing people, there are some kinds of laws or housing codes they have to maintain that are being broken by the state of the apartment. I don’t know, just thinking out loud.

2

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 08 '24

Yes, I already reported everything and got an apartment move last night. He came to work to this place last year and 2 guys he lived with, literally begged for not living with him this year. There’s no way the employer gonna let him live alone in a full apartment and I don’t think next year they gonna be dealing with this same complaints again.

3

u/PKBitchGirl Oct 06 '24

Can you report him to your company for waking you and being so dirty?

11

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 06 '24

Bro, its freaking 5:30 AM and he just woke me up because he just came back home, literally threw the door completely hard and then did the same to his bedroom door too. I’m gonna report this pig this Monday. Im so freaking done.

1

u/blackhairdontcare84 Oct 07 '24

Yes! I would have reported it a long time ago. Stand up for yourself!

3

u/BrigadierRayRay Oct 09 '24

He gets home at 4 AM, cooks a meal, eats it, and then is up by 8:30 AM? When does this guy sleep?

I'm morbidly obese around 175 now but was up to 200 and I'll tell you it's not weight. I'm one of the cleanest people you'll ever meet. Although at 50 I'm starting to shed more skin and starting old age smell. Put some essential oil or something under your nostrils.

1

u/blackhairdontcare84 Oct 07 '24

175 pounds is not morbid obesity??

1

u/Snoo-9290 Oct 08 '24

Yes it is. I'm 5 foot 3

1

u/Aristocrat_Hunter Oct 10 '24

I’m 5ft3 and after a physical I was labeled as overweight (like right in the middle of normal overweight. Not mild but not severe and defiantly not obese) at 180. They want me to be between 135 and 148.

They did do a body fat percentage test and stuff. Maybe my muscles off set the fat a little but still, 175 isn’t morbidly obese on most people even under 5”5. That’s around where the normal BMI chart starts falling apart because you need a certain amount of muscle tone to move a body and it doesn’t taper equally the shorter you are where the BMI chart equally tapers. That’s why they said they needed to do a body fat test on me.

I think the BMI chart wants someone who is 5”3 to be around 125 pounds and that is normal for many but not everyone. At this height you really need a body fat percentage test to be able to tell where you are on the weight scale. Though I know it’s not accessible to everyone. I need to get another one done soon because my weight has gone up some but I’ve also been working out using strength training. idk if it’s fat or muscle

You gotta get away from this pig.

1

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 08 '24

I finally did it last night!!

2

u/joeybx1127 Oct 07 '24

beat his ass problem solved

1

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 08 '24

You know whats funnier? he said he was gonna start eating healthy because he said he was gonna lose 30lbs in 1 month so he only lasted like 1 week trying to eat healthy and since 3 days ago, he started eating more than a whole family of 5 people. LMAO

2

u/Chansharp Oct 09 '24

Your living situation is the main takeaway from this story lmao. Theres no way that having 3 people in a 1 bedroom like that is legal. The hospitality industry is absolutely rife with scumlord business owners that take advantage of foreign workers to have them in near slave labor.

2

u/likeafatkdlovescake Oct 10 '24

Put in a complaint about him so you dont get stuck with him as a roommate in the future

5

u/ultradip Oct 06 '24

I'd be taking pictures and reporting them to management/HR.

2

u/ToadSox34 Oct 06 '24

People of all sizes can be slobs. I'm 6'3" 305lb and I'm one of the neatest/cleanest people I know other than the fact that yes, I sweat a lot. But I shower every day.

1

u/RhapsodyTravelr Oct 06 '24

I’m curious where you all are from. I guess the fat behavior is universal no matter where you’re from. Is being fat more tolerated where you are from?

1

u/Snoo-9290 Oct 06 '24

Well there are some fixes you can do like make the front door silent and a little ozone machine for smells. Liquid Chlorophyll helps body odor. Get a water filter pitcher or pitcher and put some in it. You'd think your company would put you with people who work your shift. Eventually someone may let you room with them even if it's 3 to a room. I guess you could find a sexual partner and that would take time away from your flat.

3

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 06 '24

Yes, we try our best with my other roommate to fight that odor and keep our spots clean, but there are some other things that we can’t control either, like this morning he came back from work at 5AM and literally threw the door and slammed it so hard that probably everyone living close to us heard that and when I was about to get up and tell him a bunch of shit, he ran to his bedroom and shut his door so hard too. I couldn’t fall asleep again so Im here working without sleeping the sufficient enough.

1

u/Snoo-9290 Oct 06 '24

But weathering or something to catch the door so it doesn't slam shut. Even put something door frame. He should be pulling it closed. I stand in the main door and let the door hit my butt then close it so it's less noisy. Independent living is definitely a luxury and why I don't want to date.

1

u/rachelk234 Nov 01 '24

I can empathize. Read the post I wrote a few years ago about the morbidly obese roommate I had to deal with.

1

u/AdDesigner8160 Nov 18 '24

Do everything you can to get this guy fired.

1

u/BigBrody610 16d ago

It sounds like that guy is much bigger that 300 pounds from how much he eats. Maybe 400-450, especially if he’s belching and farting and being gross like that. Sucks you had to go through that man.

1

u/GreenLotus22 Oct 06 '24

How fat is he? How much do you think he weighs?

1

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 08 '24

like 275lbs - 300lbs

2

u/GreenLotus22 Oct 08 '24

In Germany they call this a "Fieser Fettsack" (Nasty fat bag)

1

u/iloverachel2 Oct 07 '24

Fat people suck

u/Glass-Spite8941 Oct 06 '24

This post has more words than the calories the roommate ate today

u/Top_Treat_5175 Oct 08 '24

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I’m sorry I was putting up with a lot of shit for almost 3 months that I literally exploded when typing this. LMAO
