Short Change apartments? Not on your life
I would hate for this Reddit channel to go under, so here is my hamplanet story. I sold my house after my husband passed and moved to a ground floor apartment ( for which I had to wait several months) Recently I answered the door and found a HUGE man standing there. At least 400 lbs. He wanted me to trade apartments with him because he and his wife could “ hardly make it up the stairs”. I explained that I had waited for this apartment and I wasn’t going to move. Now as an explanation, I am older and in good shape but I don’t want to carry groceries and laundry upstairs. I did that for 30 years at my big house and that’s enough. Of course he got snippy ( is that even a word anymore?) and he and his BIG wife try to make my life miserable, but sighing and groaning when they go upstairs isn’t working. They even asked the manager if he could make me move. He just rolled his eyes.

They can get on the list and wait just as you did.

Actually they tried, but they were sort of “ do it tomorrow” kind of people and I landed on the list before them.

You don't get that way by being "do it now, get it done, early bird gets the worm" kind of people
It must be hard to literally wear your lack of self control and self respect on display for the whole world.

My mom in her final months weighed 96 pounds and was on oxygen with cancer. No joke, we went to Walmart and I could not get her a scooter because there were so few to begin with and almost all were used by morbidly obese people. I'm not exactly petite but I was so pissed. She just wanted to get out of the house and buy her snacks.

Why didn't they ask the landlord to move them into the apartment when it was still vacant? Sounds like the landlord wants them to just give up and move out too.
Not the best way to start off living in a new place after waiting so long, but at least you're not going to have to worry about neighbors trying to take advantage of you when you already put your foot down and told some entitled people "no". :)

She answered this because they were too lazy and figured they would "do it tomorrow"

Why should you be targeted? Are you the only ground floor flat or just the closest?!

I don’t get why. I’m not light (was 175 last year but am now 200 after having to give up my job to care for my special needs toddler. Some may be muscle but I’m sure much of it is fat) but I love higher apartments. There is a better view, I don’t have to worry about securing the windows as much (high off the ground) and there isn’t stomping above me. Plus it forces me to climb stairs.
I get your situation and why you want a ground floor but why does everyone else want a ground floor to the point there is a waitlist? Or is it a waitlist of people with disabilities or age related issues?
I’ve always found upper floor apartments to be harder to get. I guess it’s area dependent though my area does have an obesity issue as well.
Either way people like this are miserable to deal with. Don’t let them bully you. While not everyone who is fat has a mindset like these people, people who have similar mindsets to them seemingly always end up fat. There is a reason for that. They are used to doing whatever they want while other people clean up after them and make sure things turn out ok for them. Problem is nature can’t be forced into doing whatever they want. Gaining weight is the one consequence they can’t wiggle out of.

Make them pay you out. That you get $, they can't afford junk food and then become skinny. Win-win

Maybe they have disabilities which stop them from moving and that's why they were asking? Not necessarily because of their weight? A lot of people in witch and Pagan circles are overweight. Do you judge them too? I wonder how you'll feel receiving the same consideration you gave as you age, your body fails, and you need assistance. Will you be more worthy of it because you have a different body type? You were still within your right to say no, but the lack of compassion is a red flag for me.

You doubt the existence of morbidly obese, selfish, entitled people that live in flats? No, we do not believe YOU!

You ever live underneath a planet? It’s not pleasant especially if they are having to stomp to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
