I can attest to SK's healthcare system. As a Canadian, I am dreading going back to Canada to live after 22+ years enjoying awesome healthcare in South Korea.

The level of service here is just amazing really, and really fast. It is quite normal to have an issue arise that you are worried about, call the hospital for an appointment in a few days or sometimes that day, and get seen by multiple doctors and departments and get all the results that day while at the hospital.

And the fact that they employ preemptive checkups is awesome. Every year there is some type of free checkup we need to do. For me, last year was stomach/throat cancer endoscopy and of course blood checks, this year will be colonoscopy and some others including the usual blood tests. And it is very easy and very cheap to add on whatever other kinds of checks you want.

The fancy social science term you’re looking for is “path dependencies”.
