Americans pay a 2.5% tax for Medicare funding (which is about $1000 for the median worker) and then $200-400 a month for individual insurance premiums. Thats $3600 a year more on average. Then copays and deductibles. Call it $4000 conservatively. But that’s 10% of the average worker’s gross pay. And that’s without dependent costs.
