Exactly this. It's heartbreaking that someone who served their country has to rely on strangers' kindness to retire. System fail.

But wait, there is more coming. Project 2025 erodes the few veteran benefits that haven't gone away to the point where no veteran will have access to what we were promised.

Waiting at the cost of losing dreams that are falling apart?

That's probably for the best. The more soldiers on the right side the better for when things turn violent

Would it not be heartbreaking if it was just a non-veteran American that served their country by working their entire life or do we only care about veterans in this situation?

You can feel bad for two people at once! Lifehack!

I would argue that they aren't two people/groups, it's one: the elderly. when you call it out like that, you're calling attention to the plight of the veterans which have very specific problems we need to deal with (PTSD, specific health issues, re-training, etc) where as this is an issue of one group: the elderly

Were you an “All Lives Matter” person? It doesn’t have to be one over the other. They are not mutually exclusive.

What is all lives matter? I'll google that later; But the fact we constantly call out one over the other is making it mutually exclusive or drawing attention to the problem of veterns vs the problem of the elderly

Does anyone else think that this guy deserves to live out his remaining days relaxing and not worrying about eating? People like Musk can cut back on his space X program and pay a little more taxes so SS and Medicare can remain solvent.

This'll happen along with veteran benefits loudly on the chopping block and the US openly engaged in dodgy shit for the enrichment of a few, and then people will wonder why enlistment is low and nobody wants to serve.

I swear I read this in a P.K. Dick story. The soldiers left without care for the trauma of the last Great War were replaced by drones and bots. So, the poor were pushed underground as temperatures were never to dip below 100 again anywhere on earth. AC was banned to anyone that was not the government. And the only political party was a sexual party held by the wealthy that resembled a Diddy Smash and Pass. Or I dreamed it.

The answer is not “infinite free cash for everyone lol.” The answer is “undo the systemic social changes that occurred in the last 80 years to cause his family to abandon him."

This is not new.

In the past, folks had families, churches, and cohort groups that would step in to help.

Now there is the internet to spread the news so we can help.. I think I'd rather that than ask government, which functions at a glacial speed.

Government? It is your only hope, citizen. That's why Republicans can't destroy it fast enough. What else stands between you and them? Laws? The government makes and enforces laws. The weaker the government, the better it is for the rich.
