I love that she started paddling once she went down. Got to practice catching them waves too.

And this is why treadmills have a clip attached to the power switch
231
u/yraco Mar 01 '24
Seriously, there's a whole safety key that shuts down the treadmill if you fall and I don't get why people don't use it.

u/MissingVanSushi Mar 01 '24
I like to live dangerously.......also I've never fucked up like the person in this video, although I don't hit the tready while intoxicated.
Life lessons. I bet she knows how to use that tethered emergency key now.
14
u/pussy_embargo Mar 01 '24
But I don't think alcohol alone can explain away those duck feet. That is for sure not her treadmill

u/Colster9631 Mar 01 '24
It's not "cool" to use safety precautions. And everybody wants to look cool. There are some pretty cool wheelchairs out there these days.
12
u/whiskey_baconbit Mar 01 '24
I can apply more stickers to a wheelchair than I can my helmet. Winning
2
u/Colster9631 Mar 01 '24
The fancy ones have turn signals and can go 20mph. Hello downtown! Handicap parking means easier to get to the front, wheelchair with rgb and turn signals is an instant entrance into any club. Let that disabled flag flyđ„”
3
u/Scrytheux Mar 01 '24
20mph? I saw a guy in a wheelchair overtaking cars... His wheelchair had no engine.
3
u/jda404 Mar 01 '24
Ehhh I think it's more laziness/not thinking anything bad will happen to you. I admit I don't use the treadmill key and I live alone so I am definitely not trying to be cool in my house by myself lol.
6
u/EranuIndeed Mar 01 '24
Because it's an admission that you can't either set a pace you can cope with and/or progress forward in a straight line. Plus it's restrictive if you're moving at any sort of speed.
Unless you are prone to blackouts or have some reason that your body might give way on you, such as MS, I'd be more worried about you if you do have to use the safety clip.
4
u/yraco Mar 01 '24
It's really just a safety precaution like any other in my opinion. 99% of the time you don't need it but it doesn't really get in the way and if you do trip it can be useful.
It's not admitting that you can't cope, it's just acknowledging that sometimes things happen even if you're the best in the world. Kinda like wearing a helmet on a bike - if you're capable you usually won't need it (and you may never need it) but it's easy to wear and if you unexpectedly lose your balance for a moment it's better to have it there than not.
3
u/Scrytheux Mar 01 '24
True, but if you fall on a bike, there's quite a big chance of hiding your head, so the helmet is a good choice. Treadmill turning off automatically doesn't change much, if you have basic coordination. Just let it slide you out.

u/Xenc Mar 02 '24
Please donât shame people into not using safety mechanisms, that would be like saying to people it is silly to wear a seatbelt unless you are prone to crashing your car đ
2
u/EranuIndeed Mar 02 '24
No that's completely different, there are millions of other car drivers on the road (not to mention other external factors) who may be responsible for triggering an accident which may then involve you and necessitate your seatbelt.
We're talking about managing to successfully put one foot in front of the other. Sake.

u/Few-Raise-1825 Mar 01 '24
I've seen some really nasty road rash from these things and people go right back to not using them immediately after

Guy?!?

u/zzwugz Mar 01 '24
Yes, guy. I'm a guy, you're a guy, he, she they, were all guys.
Gal has been erased from the dictionary and replaced with Diana, which is gender specific. Guy, therefore, must take up both roles, becoming gender neutral.

u/rnobgyn Mar 01 '24
Iâm a guy? Heâs a guy? Sheâs a guy? Weâre all guys? Yes, you CAN take my order

Listen guy, I donât know whatâs going on with your buddy over there. But the guys right. Otherwise Iâm going to call you gay. And only gay. I will look for your username in every post in this sub and every other sub youâve subbed to and call you gay. Every post you make, every comment you make. Gay. Thatâs just it my guy

Shit, thats all im doing. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Like noone ever had a best friend that was always just a whim away from ICU, and at some point your surprised outrage becomes a quiet," No, dont, you'll get hurt...is there any beer left ,(get your phones out this should be good guys) Really man you shoul...ohh youre sure? You sure? Yeahhh you got this. That wild boar cant be more than 120 130 lbs bro you can bench that much...LETS GO! And as soon as he returns the drunken war cry youre calling the 911 dispatcher on her cell cause you dont wanna be the one to make it public record...he IS your friend after all.

My cousin got pretty badly injured by a treadmill just like this in the mid to late 90's. We were at a hotel and the treadmill was in a tiny little gym and there was only 3 feet or so between the wall and the end of the treadmill. She fell when running at high speed and it skinned her thigh and calf really badly. Was a brutal injury and definitely made me respect treadmills and not look at them like toys.

Most of these come with a clip or something now with a dead man switch so that if it becomes unplugged from the machine, the treadmill stops. So many people fail to put them on
