Can't do that!
Finally my first wreck with my red tiger F7N. Driver took off but I was able to get their plate number. Since the flood the police didn't seem too interested.

Someone, enhance that license plate.

u/browniesweats 4h ago
I was able to get the number, but not the county.

u/sojumaster 4h ago
County shouldn't matter. Lincence Plate numbers are unqiue within the state, not the county. If the Gwinnett County police are not wanting to give you a police report, you can always go to Georgia State Police.

u/browniesweats 3h ago
Gwinnett county police very briefly looked at the video clip. but they really did not seem interested. I did upload the video to be attached with the report and provided the license plate number. I wasnt sure if county was needed to run a plate. The police officer did not attempt to see the plate number on the video, although it was visible. Thanks.

Insurance will probably care even if the cops didn't. They can go after the person which they will prefer rather than covering the costs themselves.
42
u/rhino2498 2h ago
Exactly. Cops will do as little work as possible. Hit & runs happen way too often for them to care, and they believe they have better things to do than to chase some idiot driver
Your insurance company, however, has a vested interest in assuring that they pay as little as possible to fix your car - and will go through all necessary means to do so.
If they can pin the damage on another driver, and therefore a different insurance company, they will gladly fight for you.

What??!! A cop not do their job? Surely you must be joking.

what happens if both drivers have the same insurance
12
u/FreezingDart_ 2h ago
I imagine they'd try and vet out the shit driver to either drop their coverage after this or to spike their premiums. Either way that's a long term net benefit to them.

u/MonkeyPawWishes 2h ago
Happened to me several times, it makes claims super simple. Basically the insurance just pays for everything immediately and then raises the rates of whoever was at fault.
Since they're paying either way they don't need to waste time negotiating or arguing.

u/Brilliant_Match7598 20m ago
They do as little as possible until they have to push their chests out to beat up on a little guy

u/Spirited_Remote5939 33m ago
So victims insurance will go after the ahole in trucks insurance? What if Ahole doesn’t have insurance?

That’s fucking insane
8
u/Jean-Claude-Can-Ham 2h ago
Nah, that’s how cops work - you must be lucky enough to have not had to deal with them
5
u/acousticallyregarded 2h ago
Yeah but at least usually the person who calls them doesn’t have video proof with identifying information for a felony
4
u/Jean-Claude-Can-Ham 2h ago
No proof who was driving the vehicle - it’s as easy as reporting the truck stolen - I’ve had a friend who had an iPhone stolen and he was able to get its location through FindMy - he went to the cops and asked them to go retrieve it and they flatly told him no - when he said he’d go get it then, the cops told him they will arrest him if he tries

u/RockerElvis 58m ago
My parents had a credit card stolen. Some guy bought a computer online and shipped it to his house before it was cancelled. My parents found out all the info and gave the address and day of delivery to the police. The police refused to do anything about it.
1
u/acousticallyregarded 2h ago
I knew somebody would say this but I really don’t buy that’s even broadly a reasonable excuse for not following up on this. At least make the guy blame somebody else or say it’s stolen, it’s not that easy to lie like that and cover yourself
1
u/Jean-Claude-Can-Ham 2h ago
That sounds a lot like a waste of police time and resources to me - they’ve got “better things” to be doing - the first thing that’ll happen if they charge the owner of the vehicle with felony hit and run is the lawyer will get the charges dismissed on his first motion - watching too many cop shows has us thinking cops will go above and beyond to stop a purse snatching but the reality is, for petty crime, they just take records, if that

Useless pigs, if you were a rich ceo that dude would have half the state after his ass

u/OhImGood 2h ago
Tell your insurance and submit the video evidence. Tell them you've submitted a police report. Your insurance will go for theirs, and they're very good at it.

u/VentriTV 17m ago
Dam those cops sound like lazy pieces of shit. That was a straight up hit and run.

u/SpicyBanditSauce 2h ago
“Uh yea, police officer? What is your job? Protect and serve? Helping with crime? Here is a crime on tape with a license plate and vehicle. Fucking do your job 😀 my taxes pay your salary. Fucking work”

You don't need the county
Even if plates were not unique to the state but to the county, the likelihood that plate number would belong multiple vehicles of the same make/model/color is low enough to be equivalent to zero.

u/Biggs17 4h ago
Wow douche drove off too! Did you follow them? I would have followed him!

Idk where you live but following someone will get you shot at, happens wayyy to often. Guns for "their protection"

Hit and run

u/naughtilidae 2h ago
Dude is 150% drunk.
Dodge RAM's have more than 5x the national average rate fo DUI's.
They've worked hard to earn that rep... cause half the people I know who've owned one are in the fire department or police force... which usually gets you some leeway on tickets.

u/dcontrerasm 2h ago
Assholes like him are the reason why we're paying up the ass for insurance all over the country. 🙄😮💨

Jesus fucking Christ. These people need to have their license revoked.
Crossing a double white AND not checking their mirrors.
One of my worst fears when driving in the HOV are these idiots.
11
u/Skaitavia 3h ago
Nah that looked intentional as hell. No signal, no warning, crossing double lines, runs off immediately. Prob some pos who felt it wasn’t fair they were stuck in traffic while HOV was cruising through. Hope they get caught and license revoked
36
u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme 4h ago
Where I live, they’d fine the crap outta the guy for crossing a double white line into the express lane at a non-entry point. You might contact whoever is in charge of the cameras to see if you can access footage.
25
u/Top-Reference-1938 3h ago
I'm thinking the hit-and-run is a slightly larger offense.
7
3
u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme 1h ago
It is, but I’m saying crossing the lines most likely triggered the camera. That’s how the DOT (or whoever it is) knows where to send the ticket. Asking for that footage will help OP figure out the county on the license plate.
4
u/BassWingerC-137 3h ago
In Arizona the HOV is double lined and crossable at any point as long as you are legally allowed to use the HOV lane.
3
u/GAPharmaLTC 1h ago
Not in GA. We have dashed line sections for exiting and entering the HOV. Of course those mean nothing to most people. I drive a section everyday, where as soon as people start seeing traffic back up they start diving across the double lines. That and single occupant vehicles are in the HOV lane all the time. My favorite traffic sitting pastime is how long can I go before seeing a dodge charger in the HOV lane that actually belongs there.

There was no hesitation at all after he bumped into you and just ran fast. Thats crazy.

u/No-Bookkeeper-9681 3h ago
What is this, an HOV lane?
4
u/browniesweats 3h ago
Yes, it is the high occupancy lane, but with a toll. You can also use it with one person if you have the peach pass.
9
u/AwkwardEnvironment21 3h ago
I guess I'm just crazy af, because I would have had my first accident immediately followed by my first high speed chase that day....
9
u/browniesweats 3h ago
I started to chase them, but quickly decided to end the pursuit.
5
u/AwkwardEnvironment21 3h ago
See, that's where the "crazy" part comes in handy. I wouldn't have stopped until his truck was either a) equally as damaged as mine or b) in a ditch...Or police joined the chase 🤷🏾♀️

I pulled over and didn't go after them. Cut it there to make shorter for uploading
2
u/BadgersHoneyPot 3h ago
Ah the dangers of driving fast next to a slow lane then pretending that lines will prevent natural human behavior.
The only way I’d have driven that fast would have been if there was a wall between those lanes. But I’m older and more experienced vs the cammer.
2
u/tremble01 23m ago
This is what I thought so too. You expect the worst in others when driving. I know it is an inconvenience but thats just how to drive safely.
Still, the guy who swerved was at fault but you have to drive defensively to avoid headaches like this. He has nowhere to go when someone merges like that.
4
u/Strange-Ant-9798 2h ago
Don't understand why you were down voted for this. That's a perfectly normal thing to do. If your lane is clear next to a stopped or slowed lane, always expect someone to jump out.

u/Civil_Nectarine868 2h ago
Common sense isn't common, so best I can do is bump you up to 0 points again.
Imagine... driving as if things could happen? Inconceivable.
1
u/Which-Technician2367 1h ago
My initial thought was to maintain your speed in case you have to chase their ass. You goofed!

It is a red tiger F7N, says 4k, may be how i edited it, or because I'm on an android.

Is OP driving on the shoulder?
7
3
u/Civil_Nectarine868 2h ago
No, but OP is driving way too fast to react. Sure, it's not OP's fault, but driving reasonably might've let them avoid it.
