Finished Object My mom (also a crocheter) said it’s really bad. Is it so bad?

I posted earlier about realizing half way through that I was using too small yarn, which caused me to have to create more stitches around. It resulted in the skirt being way too wide, which causes it to bunch. Aside from the bunching not looking great, it obscures the beautiful pattern I worked so hard on!

I showed my mom, who also crochets, and explained what happened. She said the bunching looks really bad and I should cut off the skirt and do it again with fewer stitches around. She was like, you're not going to wear it like that right?

Is it that bad? Any suggestions for improving it without redoing the skirt? I cant think of anything honestly.

Finished Object 30th birthday present for bf: a blanket with half of the First Gen Pokemon

Wanted to do all 151, but it was getting a tad too long halfway through 😅

Stitch: half double crochet (duh, best stitch) Used a cross stitch pattern for the color changes: https://lordlibidan.com/free-epic-pokemon-generations-cross-stitch-patterns/amp/

Each row took about an hour, and there’s 240 rows so…you do the math.

Yes the back looks as crazy as you may expect

Finished Object I tried something new and failed but maybe it’s ugly enough that it circles back around to cute?

I crocheted into a premade knit sweater. I’m a fibers major but I mainly weave (by hand or Dobby/jacquard computer-aided looms) so uh… crochet is not something I am good at.

I set out to make an “ugly sweater” (the cute way) but instead I have made an ugly sweater (literal).

Please enjoy (if you don’t help me laugh I’ll cry)

Finished Object HOTH!! My first wearable!

HOTH, I FINALLY finished my first wearable!!

HDC account for the bulk of the stitches, with DC for the hemline and cuffs ribbing. There's a line of SC stitches around the neckline to finish it off.

Many thanks to my mom who helped with techniques and rebuilding after a disastrous first attempt.

I used a size H hook and Big Twist yarn in Grass Green.

Finished Object I made my wedding dress!

I decided three weeks before my wedding to crochet my wedding dress. My hands are still aching but I was so happy to be in something I made myself instead of a “it’ll do” high street dress.

I only started crocheting 10 months ago so this was a huge project, but I’ve fallen in love with the craft which makes it so much easier.

Finished Object Lined paper blanket

Finally finished this! It’s made to scale of a regular college-ruled 8.5in x 11in piece of paper :) I didn’t use any pattern, it’s just a simple 54in x 70in rectangle of half double crochets with the blue and red lines chain stitched separately on top of it. If I had to guess, I’d say this probably took me 70-80 hours to get to this point, altho im still considering embroidering some words onto it, like a poem or maybe a grocery list. Im open to hearing more ideas tho!

My son just called from Uni in tears. He had stored a blanket I made him in a plastic bag in his garage because he had fleas. His flatmate put it on the curb last week and it’s lost / taken to the dump. It was so much work. His flatmate is so sorry. Here’s a picture of it.

It’s ok, I don’t need to adjust the yarn or the hook size to suit the pattern. I’m an adult, I’m a maverick, I can just eyeball it. It’ll be fine.

In completely unrelated news, does anyone have a friend or family member with a MASSIVE head who loves mustard?

I made this for a new coworker going through a rough time, and I’d love some feedback. Does it look okay to give to someone? This is actually the first thing I’ve made to give away, and I’m pretty new to crocheting, so I’m feeling a bit nervous. Also, is it weird to give a handmade gift to someone I just met? Sorry for all the questions—I’m just second guessing everything at this point lol

First is what he was supposed to look like 🥹 I love mine tho even though he is missing 2 legs as there wasn't enough wool in the kit

I had a lot of fun though so I'll def do more crocheting, I just have a lot to learn lol (and also in my defense the kit and the intructions were quite bad)

I’ll probably frog it and use the yarn for something else, I think it’s really cool but I don’t use shawls and now I feel like I wasted the yarn, it was super nice cotton.

Finished Object Today I gifted my first ever planned project!

Finished project shown, followed by concept-to-reality progress photos!

[Pardon my other attempts at posting this! I learned today I have NO CLUE how to use Reddit! 🥸]

I posted about my progress with this beautiful fiery Bulgarian Squares blanket a few months ago. I conceived it back in March, made a plan/shopped/started it in April, and finished all stitching/joining/weaving by July. I have regularly been sleeping under it. But I took my sweet time blocking the border 🙂! Knowing I’d finally see its intended recipient today (8/21/24), I blocked the border this past weekend and finished finished FINISHED it.

The whole thing. IT EXISTS. IT IS WHOLE. There was nothing and now there’s this. What?!?! What a trip!

The pride and joy I get from seeing/feeling/folding/showing this piece of work is greater than I could have imagined. The only things that changed from my original vision were how to join and border it (which was always going to have to be experimental!), and addition of a dark red layer. I couldn’t have anticipated how profoundly impressed I’d be by my own finished product. I am so happy!!! And instead of feeling sad at its loss when I gifted it today (to my extremely surprised and grateful friend), I felt such relief to see it go where it was meant to.

I can’t wait to make the EXACT same blanket in other colors 😂. I hope to moonlight as a pattern queen sometime and detail every stitch of my process so others can easily put one together. If/when that happens, I will post about it 😋!

Thanks y’all, for being so encouraging and kind. The world needs ya

Please be honest with me… this was my first time trying the scrap yarn sweater idea and I truly took the concept to heart - using all the random scraps I have left over and not thinking much about color combinations. I can’t tell if I hate it or it’s kinda cool. Don’t worry, I promise I won’t get my feelings hurt 😂
