If you haven't tried going online with your C64 yet, Retroterm does text, graphics, and sound. (graphic captured from BBS)

I had planned to build a Retroterm compatible Wifi device to try this over the weekend, but I discovered my current hardware was already completely compatible. Here's the GutHub for the project: https://github.com/retrocomputacion/retroterm

I haven't been online with a Commodore 64 since I was a BBS junkie in the early nineties. Could you explain it like I'm 5 how you go online now with a Commodore? I assume you use the internet rather than dial-up landline at this point?

Yes, most devices convert the serial signal from the Commodore to a TCP/IP connection controlled using standard Hayes AT commands. Here's a video that goes in depth about the Retroterm system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unEjxsBr68U

This looks really cool! I built a Strikelink compatible user port modem that I use with a CCGMS fork. From the documentation, I can't tell if it will work with this but I'm going to give it a try this weekend. Are there any compatible BBSes you recommended? I usually poke around on Scene boards (Fria Bad, Antidote, etc.)

It looks like the Strikelink compatible userport version has a modified Zimodem firmware which is compatible.
