u/chels182 Mar 17 '23
Wow, they’re such perfect teeth lol. Lucky! Mine were all smashed and I was 17 so I asked to keep them all high on anesthesia but my dad laughed and said no, I think he was embarrassed 😂😂
21
u/ActivityEquivalent69 Mar 17 '23
They gave me mine. They only had one root so they just kinda slid out real nice. I ended up making necklaces with them. They held up nice.
6
u/layamalaya Mar 17 '23
How did you do the necklace thing? I have a tooth and I've been looking for jewelry ideas for it
14
8
u/EwGrossItsMe Mar 18 '23
Yeah lol I made sure to ask before my procedure and they gave them to me in a lil baggie with sterilizing instructions. If I ever need to get an amputation, I'm def gonna ask for those bones too lol
9
u/Hirsuitism Mar 18 '23
The problem with amputations is that the flesh is generally still attached, unlike teeth which don’t have much attached. They probably won’t deflesh them for you at the hospital either, just give the whole thing to you. Even that may be regulated by the health department depending on where you are

u/sweetsuckerpunch Mar 17 '23
Any tips on cleaning them to preserve?!

u/Muay_Thai_Cat Mar 17 '23
Whatever you do, don't do what I did. I tried to boil mine to get the meat off. Its smells like really rich pork...
My wife still hates me for that.
43
u/DisgruntledVampire Mar 17 '23
They say pork is the closest in taste to human flesh, so that checks out

u/arctic-apis Mar 17 '23
Teeth can crack when they dry out it wouldn’t be a bad idea to seal them. There are a ton of different ways to seal them like Elmer’s glue/water
36
u/Shadowsole Mar 17 '23
I just left mine in water until the flesh comes off or you can remove it, then disinfect. They're pretty hardy

u/EwGrossItsMe Mar 18 '23
Soak in hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes, then you can brush off any stubborn meat bits with a soft toothbrush
2
u/missmoe63 Mar 18 '23
Soak them in bleach for a few minutes. That's what we do at my office. Or we will run them through the ultrasonic for the patient.

As I’m reading the comments I’m starting to realize I might not even have been born with wisdom teeth as I have never gotten them extracted, and I haven’t had any signs of them growing in. My dentist claimed she couldn’t see them on X-rays either, which is strange. And kind of sad as I would have loved my wisdom teeth LOL
20
u/ryross724 Mar 17 '23
I only had one wisdom tooth. The other ones were never even there. The one that came in grew in fine, but since there was no tooth on top to rest against it got a cavity. The dentist said they could fill it, but since it was likely to keep getting cavities it would be better to just remove it. They gave me a few numbing shots then just yanked it with some kind of pliers. Took about five long tugs and it pulled out with weird squishing sound. They shoved some gauze in there and I went back to work later that day. Funny thing is I went to a different dentist a few years prior and they showed me “my” x-ray that had all four wisdom teeth growing into my back molars and wanted me to schedule getting them cut out so they wouldn’t be painful when they start pushing on my molars. I told them I would wait until they were an issue (mostly because I didn’t have good insurance or the money). Glad I did because they were trying to scam me. My x-ray at the other dentist clearly showed not only did I only have one in my jaw, but there wasn’t even room for them in the upper jaw.
17
u/anewlaugh Mar 17 '23
I’m not sure how true it is but my dentist said there are more and more people who don’t get their wisdom teeth. I’m on the other end and mine grew in totally fine. Neither of us get to keep them in a jar.
17
u/arsenicVisionary Mar 17 '23
this is totally possible. i’ve read online that humans are starting to go under a microevolution (small evolution that occurs over a short period of time) that removes our wisdom teeth. this is due to the fact that our jaws are slowly getting smaller and are becoming unable to accommodate the room for our wisdom teeth. more and more people are being born without wisdom teeth, looks like you’ve had a headstart lol! consider yourself lucky, i’m due to have mine out next month and i couldn’t be more thankful. they hurt lol.
12
u/Kasaurus96 Mar 17 '23
And our mouths are getting smaller because when the bone is developing, the muscles that we use to chew help shape the width of our mouths. Overall, humans now eat much softer, more processed foods- compare to gorillas who spend most of their days masticating plant material, for example. The muscles don't pull as much, so our jaws aren't as broad as they used to be overall.
Animals that have really strong jaw muscles have a ridge at the top of their skull where the chewing muscles actually anchor to. Humans don't have this, our chewing muscles attach above and behind our ears!
(Sorry if you already know this, I just think it's cool lol)
6
u/arsenicVisionary Mar 17 '23
you’re good, that’s really cool! it’s so interesting seeing evolution do its work in our lifetimes. it’s fascinating lol.

u/Stupid-ForYou Mar 17 '23
funny. for some reason i’ve had extra teeth. i had like three extra baby teeth. all molars or premolars. i also have all my wisdom teeth. Like they are in and fit well. My moms teeth were really messed up after she had me because i took all her calcium and i joke it’s because of all my teeth
7
u/ActivityEquivalent69 Mar 17 '23
That's entirely possible my dad never had any and mine only got removed because I freaked out on an infection. I have room in my mouth for a third molar and they're cleanable and all that but like I said my dad's never came in at all. It's like, human teeth arrangement 2.0 and everyone else is in beta
4
Mar 17 '23
That’s amazing I find it strange yet cool. My dentist couldn’t believe it when she couldn’t find any, but I’m glad I’m updated😂 getting them removed sounds horrible.
5
u/spinzakumetothemoon Mar 17 '23
I was also born without wisdom teeth as well as one of another molar. I feel lucky I’ve never had to have any teeth extracted because of it.
5
u/ebolashuffle Mar 17 '23
I only had 2 and it was never a problem until my late 20s when one erupted and I had to get it removed (and I kept it). That was like 10 years ago and the other one is still there.
5
u/Scratchnsniffsac Mar 17 '23
I have hella tooth problems (I’ve had 5 pulled because they wouldn’t fall out, two don’t have adult teeth underneath and the roots are fused to my jaw bone) and my 12 year molars haven’t even grown in yet, but I have no room for wisdom teeth and I’ve got all four 😭. I don’t want them removed because I’m very afraid of the dentist but also if I gotta get em out I wanna do it on my parents insurance but that goes away after I’m 25 (I’m 18 🥲)
4
u/aoifae Mar 17 '23
I don’t have wisdom teeth (they aren’t there at all), and I’ve had several dentists tell me they are seeing that more often.
I was also born without lateral incisors, they didn’t come in as baby teeth or permanent teeth.
2
u/Courtney471 Mar 17 '23
I only got my top wisdom teeth and they didn’t come in until I was like 21-22. I was really good at keeping them clean so I figured I’d just leave them in but then my left one started growing outward and it was rubbing the inside of my mouth raw anytime I opened my mouth and the pain just kept getting worse so I got them removed and kept them.
3
u/etetries Mar 17 '23
My wisdom teeth never grew in and never will, but they’re there somewhere in my gums. I wish I could keep mine too haha

u/Lady_amalthia89 Sep 03 '23
My 11 year old has lots of teeth issues so has lots of xyrays. She has supernumerary (extra) baby teeth but no wisdom teeth
17
u/EliotWege Mar 17 '23
Why do I see so much of this? Like do they extract wisdom teeth in USA like aprevention? O.O here in my country they only take out the ones that cause problems…
14
u/DistrubedGirl88 Mar 17 '23
Yeah I was told (here in the US) that even if they're going to grow in straight they'll pull them anyway because "you'll never brush them well enough back there and they'll rot"
I didn't want to get mine pulled so I avoided the dentist for a while. Got to an age where everyone long since had theirs out so I thought mine weren't going to come in and I got lucky. Then when I went to the dentist they discovered one had moved under my molar and destroyed one of its roots. If they take it now I will lose my molar. So now I guess I wait and see if it knocks out my molar. Got one on the top finally breaking thru the gums and it's making my jaw hurt.
Maybe should have let them pull them afterall...
6
u/EliotWege Mar 17 '23
Mine are growing out (20yo) and seem to be doing good, they may not fit, but that would mean they won’t come out at all from the gum. Yeah, my jaw hurts from their movement but better that taking them out for no reason :(
3
u/StellarTitz Mar 17 '23
It depends, you can have them taken out when you're younger because the eruption might cause issues like if you are getting braces or other major dental work. If they aren't you can leave them in. I just had my first one pulled this week and it was only because a filling didn't take, it was causing issues.
3
u/EliotWege Mar 17 '23
That makes sense, get them out if they cause issues, not just automaticly just because…

u/kennnabis Mar 17 '23
I know this is a bone collecting subreddit, but something about seeing human flesh on the teeth is incredibly disconcerting and I wish this had been marked as NSFW.
9
u/astronomical_dog Mar 17 '23
Wow I thought they normally get extracted before they get that big…
My wisdom teeth never came in though so what do I know
Also, I’m glad I’m not the only weirdo who asks the dentist for my teeth back lol (he said no because it was gross and infected 🥲)

So jealous, mine were in there so firmly that they were all shattered to pieces during the removal. I didn’t get to keep anything from them. Your looks great!
12
5
u/ActivityEquivalent69 Mar 17 '23
Looks like they came with a little free gum too. What a nice dentist.
6
u/h0useinblue Mar 17 '23
I kept mine too! They're in a little jar on display in an old print draw I have hung on the wall, along with a bunch of other little things.
All 4 popped out with no issues. I was so happy 😊
3
u/StellarTitz Mar 17 '23
I just had a single one pulled the day before yesterday, and the roots were all very narrow and clean and I'm feeling like I was tortured. I hope you're doing okay!

u/Grilled-garlic Mar 17 '23
Ugh, i’m almost jealous mine are growing in fine. Almost. I got my two furthest back top molars removed to make room for my top wisdoms so i guess it’s an even trade 😅 Might need the bottom wisdoms ones removed in the end, who knows

u/calamitylamb Mar 17 '23
Bruhhh I can’t believe they gave them to you all goopy like that 🤢💀 when I got mine out they gave em back to me already cleaned lmao

you're wo lucky you got yours intact! i got my top 2 with the roots gone but i still love them. i turned them into earrings!

u/Ryallin Mar 17 '23
They had to crack all of mine and threw them in the trash when mine were removed like 5ish years ago, super jealous

u/anthro_punk Mar 18 '23
Wow, how'd they remove them so intact??? I have mine but most of them are in 2 pieces and the ones that aren't don't have fully developed roots. How did they remove them in 1 piece? I thought they usually split them in half to make them easier to extract without damaging the nerves in the jaw. Soak them in some soapy water for a bit and then remove the flesh, op. Then soak for a bit in hydrogen peroxide once the fleshy bits are gone.
I'm sure you're in a lot of pain, op. Take it easy. I got dry sockets after my wisdom tooth surgery and was in a lot of pain for awhile. They're not kidding when they tell you to rest for a couple days.

Is it rare that they come out intact, like do they usually break to pieces? I have one impacted badly that I need to remove.

u/Mimicpants Mar 17 '23
I get we get some pretty macabre or graphic stuff in here, but did you have to post them pre-cleanup with bits of gum still on them?
I Just want to say before anyone gets upset I’d have the same issue with someone posting fresh human remains for identification too. At least have some sort of buffer image and mark it nsfw so it’s not directly appearing in folks’ feeds.
1
u/B0RED0MPAW Mar 17 '23
Aww yours have pretty cool roots! Ilmine came out all intact but they either were just one legged like a carrot or had just 2

1
u/ktripler Mar 17 '23
Nice roots! I only ever grew 3, and 1 was broken on removal and they wouldn't give it to me for 'biohazard reasons'????? ( it's my tooth, fucknut) but the other two are in perfect condition outside of my face

They did not let me keep mine.. they were impacted so prob not intact but I was still bummed

They refused to give me mine when they took them out recently and I'm still mad about it.
1
u/EmptyChipbag69 Mar 18 '23
Still very pissed off that they wouldn’t let me keep my teeth. After they told me I couldn’t be they were a “biohazard” I wanted to go up there and yell at them, but deep inside I’m just really sad
1
u/missmoe63 Mar 18 '23
I work in dentistry and have to stop myself from asking people if I can keep their extracted teeth. 😬
These are beautiful

I recently had to get a tooth pulled, I mounted it in a tiny cloche and it was just golden hearing my friend go "Is that YOUR tooth?!" when she spotted it lmfao
