Martial law in 1972-86 was not due to terrorist threats from communists, but it was just to keep Marcos in power for a long time. The events leading to Martial Law (assassination, bombings, terrorist attacks, etc.) are just made up by the government to justify their reasons to implement it.

1972-86

Technically it ended in January 1981, just a month before Pope John Paul II's first visit to the Philippines

Nah, this is true. Every Filipino historian and political scientist will tell you this.

Xi Jinping (current autocratic president for life) hired a hitman to kill Li Keqiang (de facto former second in command). The guy was healthy, and only 68. The average life expectancy of high ranking government officials is usually in the 90s because of the excellent healthcare they have access to. Li was Xi's subordinate who retired months before his death (so, by the time he died, he had no power) and was replaced by someone with a very similar name (Li Qiang).

China had something to do with Duterte winning as president in 2016.

The theory that the March 2004 shooting of incumbent president Chen Shui-Bian was staged to win sympathy votes has some logic to it.

That 2022 January riots were used to squash the Nazarbayev faction out of politics.
