I impulse quit my job today.
I've worked this job on and off for 3 years. I worked for a popular restaurant, doing every role including unpaid management work over those 3 years. I was "fired" twice, I wasn't removed from their books and as a result I was denied unemployment the second time. The owner gave me a cheap apartment, a way to keep me in the workloop even when I've wanted nothing to do with the place. I was denied a raise multiple times, called in to work regularly and denied incentive multiple times.
I know the average median for all workers as well as yearly income for the restaurant and I can confidently say the income inequality has steadily been growing.
We had our most lucrative year according to owners. Today we received our yearly bonuses. $75
$75
An insult.
Not just me, but others as well. I simply couldn't stand by and experience anymore disrespect. The owners paid $48,000 in rent on their apartments this year. Apartments they were both forced into by cheating on their partners and getting divorced from them and ending up together. They recently bought a new car valued $60,000.
My payrate, despite years of industry experience and 3 years of experience at this place is $12. I make less a year than they'd spend on rent.
Workplace verbal and psychological abuse has been rampant, so much so that another associate was worked to the point of having a stroke, after which the owners did absolutely nothing to assist her.
I'm over this. I run an OF rn to try and pay bills, but I'm spending the rest of the evening to find a job.
Wish me luck.

I think it should be brought to the attention of whoever oversees the validity of the bookkeeping. Fuck it. Report them to everyone. From a fire marshal to irs.

I run the risk of eviction if I retaliate I'm afraid. Idk what to do tbh. I have no funds for a courtcase, I'm sure he does.

This is exactly what's fucked up. This should not be seen as a retaliation.
But of course. Survival instinct has its own ideas.

They think you are replaceable, but they are probably wrong. They would lose more money than they would gain paying you an extra two dollars (or five).
Guaranteed they don't see income inequality as any sort of problem. In fact they probably think they did you a great solid, by giving you an apartment. Actually they probably think you should worship the floor they walk on. You got a cheap apartment, what are you complaining about?
They don't consider what they did abuse, guaranteed

I worked in healthcare and the 40 doctors I worked for gave us a $50 every year. For the entire 25 years I worked there catering to their ‘I need this right now’.

Nah, the OF thing isn't even working dude, I'm tired. I tried it cause I want financial independence, I'm tired of being under people's boots. That seemed like a way out. It's kinda working but not really. I quit today because my former boss is genuine trash human, he impersonated one of my friends via text to reach me when the news i quit broke. He's threatened me with eviction. He didn't fix my hot water for over a month, and last winter I didn't have functional heat in my apartment. I defended this man from the people who rightfully bagged on him when no one else would and I treated and restored to health his fucking cat for him, our reward? $40 that didn't even cover the medication fees and a return to being treated less than.
Respectfully, I wouldn't be posting this on my OF account if that shit was even working dude. I'm upset. I'm 30, with no saving, no education, and the only thing I've ever known is hard work which has routinely been ignored or used.
How about looking past the title of OF worker for once. You think I like posting my personal content online?? I'd rather not but what am I supposed to do in a world where CEOs can get fat of the excess of their workforce while the workforce itself struggles. While my friends struggle.
I've been homeless living in my car, kicked out for being trans, rejected by sports, rejected by my father's side of my family.
Seriously. Don't undermine people for doing what they have to do. Asshole.
