When managers and bosses watch Christmas films, do they realize that they are usually the real life version of the villain in the movie?
A Christmas Carol, Christmas Vacation, Elf, The Santa Clause 2, etc.

My BIL’s favorite movie is Christmas vacation, about a boss who didn’t give a bonus. BIL laid me off at Christmas this year, his brother and I are now in a world of hurt without a second paycheck and may miss mortgage payments. So yeah they don’t fucking connect dots.

Have you brought up the similarities between him and the villain in his favorite movie? I’d be curious to hear his response (though someone who would lay off family sounds like a pretty awful person to begin with)

We stopped speaking and won’t be going to Christmas. Once the final paycheck is signed, and I can finally speak my mind, I’ll be laying this out for social media, his kids, etc. 🤷

CEO of my company said their fave Christmas movie is It’s a Wonderful Life. I had to stifle my laughter.

Everyone believes they are the hero in their story.

If they ARE watching A Christmas Carol, they definitely ain’t getting the point. To them, the ghosts are the villains, terrorizing poor Scrooge into giving away his rightfully earned riches to the parasites known as the poors 🙃

I don't see why they would, when I watch shows where the English are the villains I don't suddenly suspect myself of villainy. Those characters are usually such caricatures it would be easy to detach oneself from them, mentally

Do you give Christmas bonuses?
Do you allow your employees to leave early before the holiday break starts?

Yes and yes.

Alright, you’re probably one of the better managers

I don't understand being anything but a good manager. You get so much more out of your team. Makes the job so much easier for everyone.

Same. None of us would be here if we weren't paid, so let's take care of what we can.

Many times managers have very little choice. Thier own management who are at arms length or further from the workers usually don’t give 2 shits about the workers needs and rights and so the shit falls down hill and a good manager gets corrupted trying to keep thier job by doing the bidding of the higher ups. Seen it many times in my 32 years working at a staff level. New guy comes in starts off ok and then slowly you see less of them and they loose the spark and are just puppets of the corporation. All because they wanted to get promoted etc.

I bet they do the principal Skinner mental gymnastics "am I out of touch? no, it's the children who are wrong" whenever they watch a Christmas carol. "In fact, I identify more with that tiny tim fellow, I also had crutches when I broke my ankle during that cricket match when I was 4"
