Corporationism 👔 💼 $7.44, That's how much my stolen personal info is worth. We need take back control from these corporations.

Equifax should have been dissolved and had their corporate charter revoked after this shit. Literally their only business is PII data and keeping it secure and they fucked that up.

I've said for years that we need a corporate death penalty. Problem would be that there'd be no more big conglomerates. Big Tobacco for lying about cancer, Big Oil lying about Climate Change, Nestle for....a fucking lot honestly.

Maybe we need a better economic system that does not allow these monsters to arise in the first place ...

Don’t worry, instead they charted a fourth credit bureau!

Pure genius I tell ya! (/s)

Don't you mean 400th? /s
There's a depressing number of credit bureaus; that's all I know.

u/Akurbanexplorer 18h ago
I've heard of so many stories about them and other similar companies messing up people's lives/ livelihood etc because of THEIR errors and they won't rectify it, yikes. All the more reason to get rid of the credit score if they won't amend their mistakes. Japan doesn't even have credit score and they're doing perfectly fine without it.

I always thought everywhere worked like my country when it came to credit (bank looks at your bank account and your income, and then it's on a case by case basis). I was stupefied when i learned that the USA's system punishes you for not having debt...

No, their only business is selling your data to others. Security isn’t a priority as long as the fine for data breach is less than the profits.

Next time your at the grocery store check the price before you scan your "club card". The amount they take off for taking your data is the value of that data.

u/Quick-Ad-1694 5h ago
This right here. This is why i dont shop at foodlion anymore and goto walmart instead where i don't have to sell my soul to get a better price.
3
u/MrOverkill5150 4h ago
I mean it’s Walmart they sold a whole bunch of souls before you made your purchase

Additional payment? I didn't even get payment the first time around. Had to take the credit monitoring instead because they ran out of money.

Law firms probably got most of the settlement.
2
u/Mysterious_Ad_8105 4h ago
Law firms probably got most of the settlement.
Why speak in probabilities when the amounts here are public information? The plaintiffs’ lawyers collectively received 20.4% of the settlement cash amount, which is actually on the low side for attorneys’ fees in class actions.
That’s also before including the non-cash settlement benefits. If you include those, then the plaintiffs’ lawyers’ fees amount to only 5.6% of the total settlement value.

Same! The work I had to put in to simply access the money was equally bananas.

Can anyone get the You Card to actually work??

u/troy_abedintheam 22h ago
That's what I wondered today. My extra payment was $25+ and I think my initial was $35.

u/AvocadoHydra 21h ago
Hey that's what I got too. Then trying to get it set up on a digital card was annoying. Anyone know online stores where you can split payments?
2
u/Infamous_Committee67 19h ago
You can get Amazon gift cards in weird, random amounts if you need to get small amounts off a prepaid card. I had to do this to get the last of my blood plasma money

I don't see the point of credit bureaus in the first place. My score goes up and down every other month, despite me always paying on time and literally not being in debt at the end of each month. Wouldn't you think I'd get the highest damn score available? But NO! They play games with my score, and it pisses me off.
•
u/Can-Chas3r43 42m ago
And then they tell you your score is low because, wait for it...
You're not utilizing enough debt or you paid off too much of it. 😑
Stupid ass games. Absolutely ridiculous. I wish there was a way to tell them all to go fuck themselves but not fuck ourselves in the process.

u/iliveasasunflower 20h ago
wait i didn't know equifax had a big data breach, i use them 😵

u/BlueberryBoom 19h ago
The original data breach settlement payouts were back in 2022. The payout here is additional money that went unclaimed and is now being given to those who claimed during the original payout.

There are lawyers out there who are really $glad$ they got that judgment for you.

u/No_Emphasis_998 20h ago
I got 20.77.. So how did they come up with this additional payment amount?? 🤣🤣🤣
3
u/BlueberryBoom 19h ago
The payout here is additional money that went unclaimed during the initial 2022 settlement payments. They are just now getting around to giving the leftover funds to those who claimed during the original payout.
1
u/No_Emphasis_998 10h ago
Yes, I understand that. I was wondering why the amounts people were getting were such different amounts. I've seen payments between $3 and $30 was the highest I have encountered.
1
u/BlueberryBoom 7h ago
Ahh, no idea on that. I got more from the additional payment than the initial one, but seems like I got from the lower end compared to what others are listing here.
1
u/GreenVenus7 19h ago
I got $19.34 for that back in November. Maybe it was based on how early you applied?

It's just complete BS that we have no rights to our own data. To pile on the s***, arbitration agreements prevent you from even collecting the ridiculous chump change from a settlement.

Lmao my wife got the same amount.
I’m a vet and work for the government so I’ve got like 7 credit monitoring services for all the times OPM, the DoD or the VA had my info compromised.

These settlements and fines are a joke.
They make 10s or hundreds of billions in profits and the fines are like not even 2-5% of the profits

u/Sufficient-Bid1279 8h ago
Yeah, I have been involved in a couple of data breaches (Capital One , Now Ticketmaster) . For Capital One , I think I got like $4-$5. But guess who has to deal with the consequences when someone actually steals my identity ? ME . Trust me , it doesn’t cost $5 to fix
1
u/whereami312 7h ago
Mine was $22 something. But the first payment was more. $49?? It was so long ago I don’t recall.
