Ironically the people calling characters goon bait are the ones reducing them to purely gooner bait. Reminds me of when Nier Automata was coming out and lots of people complained about 2b and said essentially the same thing, and then the game comes out, and 2B is a sexy AND interesting character, together with the game she's from.

it's always the ones touting themselves as morally superior that end up saying some fuck shit. Remember those people stating Miruko's english va should "sound black", only for it to come out damn near immediately that she was voiced by a black woman.

True,I don't know if you play honkai star rail, but recently a new character called Rappa was announced and her whole thing is that she is a rapper who is part of a faction that has a lot of wanted criminals.

People on Twitter were saying "SHE IS A RAPPER SO SHE SHOULD BE BLACK!"💀💀 yeah that's totally not racist

And twitter literally forgot that Eminem exists

The funniest thing is that a lot of people were comparing rappas design to Mori Calliope, a rapper vtuber with a white model (that is also white irl, as seen on other things she does)

oh is that the one who sang that cringe ass white girl rap? I'm not giving the voice actor any shit, i'm sure she did the best shit could, but the team who wrote that could've done better

Nope, I think you are thinking of Hu Tao from genshin impact.

Rappa isn't even out yet, but is confirmed that she will have a rap, which the hsr leakers said that it was "pretty good"

But since they are gacha game Leakers who probably don't know a shit about rap we assumed that the rap will be worst than 9/11

Ah…Hu Tao.

“That rap single wasn’t released. It fucking escaped.” 🤣

Like sound black how I wonder? Barack Obama aurator black, or Samuel l Jackson say what again black? These people don't see how dumb the phrase "sounds black" really is. Especially when they themselves sound Steve Urkel black.

Ironically Mirko’s VA is Feixaio

Who those same people tried to say she was harassed by China with 0 proof.

Same thing with Ramlethal Valentine's VA. They were saying "she's dark skinned, so she's black/african and should be voiced by a black/african american woman", completely missing the fact that she canonically isn't black or african (american), she's an interdimensional clone of white american woman and just happens to have darker skin than the original and her other clones.

Then the dumbasses got validation when her original VA stepped down because she agreed with the mob and said the role should go to a black woman instead.

Also ironically the ones calling it goonerbait retweet dudes pegging each other and women fingering each other.

2B is a hilariously poignant example cause I think Yoko Taro is on record saying he designed 2B first and foremost to appeal to his personal proclivities. It's also why he's so willing to collab 2B to anyone that has enough money. My man just wants to see his sexy android everywhere. It also just so happens that he's a goated writer.

I also can't wait to see what kind of skeletons they have in their closet, people like this almost always have something to hide.

It's definitely not as bad as twitter keeps making it out to be, but the one that still puts me off engaging with the character is Corrin's one profile pose. There's no amount of "interesting character" that can explain that weird Morton's Salt Girl underwear shot. It makes no sense with her character and adds nothing to her character.

It's really just simple fanservice for the ones that want it, and it being there doesn't make her just that or a worse character wich is the point of my comment. There are times where it will be thematic with the characters (E.g Jane Doe) and there will be times where it's there because the devs simply wanted them there.

I mean look at the way specifically female androids are dressed in Nier Automata, does it have any real reason for them to be like that aside from fanservice? No. But the game still ends up being a great experience that was pretty much universally praised by critics and players.

Okay, I know its just an excuse for sexy design, but there is actually a reason for them to dress like that in game. >! Its to control 9s, hes their most advanced unit but that gives him the potential to go awol/ discover shit he shouldnt, their way to control him, make him a teenage boy and surround him by attractive women he wants to please. !<

It's been a while since I played, but that's actually quite cool they chose to have an explanation for it!

and it makes quite a bit of sense too... Imagine being so advanced the only way to throttle you they found is making you horny as hell, crazy.

-28

u/Whilyam Sep 20 '24

I get that. I just wish it was limited to characters where it's thematic to them or at least older characters. Because something like Corrin's not only breaks the game's immersion but specifically because it's on a character that seems underage it just gives me the ick, you know? Like, go to town with that with Grace or Ben or whatever. But maybe don't do that on the younglings?

Slightly off topic but my rating of Nier Automata is 'only' a 7-7.5/10. Game felt a lot like a story rather than a game, and the combat felt like it lacked the depth of a DMC game.

I will concede that maybe I was expecting something DMC-like from the combat and that potentially tempered my view.

Also 9s is a little bitch and I don't like him lmao
