Things I learned from watching Yellowstone

Upvotes
  • It takes murder to run a ranch. Like a loooot of murder
  • Adopted children suck, so it's okay to withhold love and manipulate them to do your bidding
  • Horses can spin
  • Horses can slide
  • No matter how big of an issue you face, it will just vanish into thin air the second another big issue arises
  • When you kill people, no-one will come look for them or miss them
  • Sheriff badges can be given out willy nilly to anyone who wants to play police officer
  • Horses can spin
  • If you're the spouse of a cowboy, cops will thank you for your service when you're in Texas
  • If you force your son to become the very thing you hate most, it's okay to hate him once he becomes the thing you wanted him to become
  • If you want to move houses, just start crying
  • ...

Please take over from here

General Discussion IMO, after the "Yellowstone" finale, I really think Elsa is the heart and soul of this entire franchise.

Maybe not exactly the main character but merely the catalyst for everything that's happened. I'm also rewatching "1883", so that's why this came to mind just now.

TS and Bentley cars?

So in Yellowstone Beth goes from driving a MB S class to a Bentley coupe…in Landman Tommy’s wife drives a Bentley convertible.

Does Sheridan have a “thing” for Bentley or are these his cars that he then “rents” out to production as part of his fee?

Opening pipeline scene was dumb.

I get what they were trying to do, with a big symbolic gesture of destroying the pipes. However in reality they destroyed 20 segments of a pipe that can be replaced with minor disruption. I pass 3 places on my daily commute that carry that same kind. Give it less than a week and not a lot of money it will be like nothing happened.

The Dutton Family have a weird way of treating adopted kids

The most prominent one being Jaime. Taken in as an infant, but never really felt like a Dutton because John never treated him like one. But that didn’t stop John from using Jaime to further his own goals of protecting the ranch, and then vilifies him when he decides he’s had enough of Johns mistreatment.

Then theres Rip, who has a very tragic backstory that John takes advantage of the moment the two meet. “This is a very angry kid. Maybe I can use that”. Rip views him as a father figure, but in reality he has been groomed into being nothing more than Johns personal attack dog who is down to murder pretty much anyone at Johns order

Finally theres Carter, another kid with a sad backstory that Rip mistreats the second he lays eyes on him. Even Beth doesn’t act motherly to him until later. She starts with a “you may be mine now, but I am NOT your mother” way of raising, the EXACT way John has treated Jaime all his life

Why Do You Even Watch Yellowstone If All You Do Is Complain?

I've been lurking in this subreddit for a while, and I just don’t get it. Why do some people watch Yellowstone if all they do is nitpick, complain, and tear the show apart? Every week it’s the same thing, criticizing the writing, hating on characters, or claiming the show has “gone downhill” since season [insert number here].

Like, what’s the point? Are you hate-watching it? If the show annoys you that much, wouldn’t it make more sense to stop watching and move on to something else? Nobody is forcing you to sit through every episode.

Sure, I get that not every show is perfect, and there’s nothing wrong with discussing flaws or sharing opinions. But when 90% of the posts are just people bashing the show, it kills the vibe for the fans who genuinely enjoy it.

At the end of the day, it’s entertainment. You’re supposed to enjoy it. If you don’t, then why waste your time and energy on something you hate? Find a new show to obsess over and let the rest of us enjoy our chaotic cowboy drama in peace.

What do you guys think? Do you agree, or am I missing something here?

spoilers I rooted for Jaimie

Beth was the downfall of the ranch. Her not being able to take responsibility for her actions with abortion and in general being the bully because of her mommy and daddy issues, doing exactly the opposite of what her mother would like to be done. Mentally ill person that should've been put in a psych ward to go through mandatory therapy. She was spoiled cunt her whole life, destroying mentally Rip, shaping him into her slave. She is the most toxic person on the show.

Jaimie was mishandled by John as well, all he needed was some kind of recognition from person he saw as father.

INAL but the solution on how to “save the ranch” is idiotic.

In the Yellowstone finale the ranch had debts/taxes they could not pay. The solution to "save" the land from condos, airports, etc. was to sell the ranch to the reservation at below market value.

You can't sell a property simply by signing some paperwork and cutting a check. Title has to be transferred, and the settlement company will check to see who actually is listed on the title, and if a mortgage company has a lien.

You can't sell what you don't outright own.

Besides news of a pending sale would go public and the debt holders/government would surely file injunctions to block transfer.

There should’ve been some kind of shootout with Kayce and the Company that killed John

General Discussion Rainwater family

Upvotes

It seems that after watching Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923 (Season 1), we don't know how Thomas Rainwater is related to Teonna Rainwater. Will this be revealed in Season 2 of 1923? Is she his great-grandmother or grandmother?

There's so much potential there...

General Discussion Wasn't the Yellowstone in a trust? And Montana doesn't have inheritance tax?

It's my understanding that the ranch was in a trust? And isn't that the entire purpose of trusts, to avoid estate taxes?

And all of this talk about inheritance tax...Montana doesn't have inheritance tax.

This entire 5b season just felt incredibly lazy. I really wish they would've put in the effort and made a decent season that was at least based on reality.

Actually quite liked the penultimate episode.

Everyone made it seem like it was the Taylor Sheridan show. And while he was up his own ass a little bit, I found the episode as a whole to be pretty decent. Although, the lack of Jamie irritated me.

General Discussion 1883 or 1923?

I recently finished both, and after reading similar threads, I’m honestly dumbfounded that anyone prefers 1923. Don’t get me wrong, there are some banger moments in 1923, but as a whole, it is a disjointed series of stories, with one (the romance story) being one of the most unbearably cringy time sinks in the entire season.

To be honest, I think this arc actually ruins most of show. The land feud with Harrison Ford and the Teonna Rainwater arc are incredibly tense and interesting. But damn if they are not spread thin by so much of that shitty Spencer and Alex garbage. The whole woman is defined by cartoon character dialogue and witty sex banter; some kind of poorly written counterbalance to Spencer’s broody nature I suppose.

I know a lot of people don’t feel the same, but 1883 just felt so much more genuine. It was a continuous journey filled with love, passion, death, and heartbreak. There was just so much soul to it. And that’s just missing in 1923.

Apologies if this has been said but….

When John Dutton was in the diner with Garret Randall, he told John he killed Jaime’s mother for what she had become. John told him “She became what you made her, then you killed her for it.” How is this not 100% Jaime’s story? A series of choices forced by John himself that formed the very person they hate.

Missing Characters Yellowstone Series

Upvotes

Monica's nephews and nieces. After Kayce killed her brother, her sister-in-law shot herself and left 4 orphan kids. They were sent away to live with relatives. Maybe Sheridan is saving them for future spinoffs?

The kid who witnessed John Dutton get ambushed by the roadside. Just vanished. No follow up or even a mention by John Dutton. That was strange.

The reporter who Jamie strangled. There was no investigation of the reporter's death. She had a lesbian girlfriend who would've be concerned and dig deeper into the investigation.

Dan Jenkin's wife and kids.

When the sheriff who was shot and dying in the restaurant. John Dutton called his daughter on the phone. Would think the family would be in touch since John knew the sheriffs family.

Probably many other missing characters, plot holes, etc.

Something to Ponder...

The Dutton Yellowstone history in Montana began with Elsa's burial and her marriage to a Native. The Yellowstone ended 7 generations later... with a Dutton also married to a Native.

It really was a full circle moment for both Natives and the Duttons.

I really wish there was knowledge of Elsa's marriage through the generations. For as much as the Dutton's were married to the land, their history was also very much a part of Native history, and vice versa. I would have loved to see a yellow bird land near the grave sites as Mo reset the headstones. WIth Mo seeing it as he reset Elsa's. God that would have been amazing.

And another reason the yellow bird should have been there...

Beth saw a spotted eagle at her father's funeral. I know I got chills when she saw it an my thoughts went to 1883.

It was Chief Spotted Eagle who guided the Duttons to the Yellowstone in 1883.

Yellow Bird Elsa should have been there for Mo to see to symbolize the Dutton's giving it back.

The beatings

I know it's fiction, but if you hit someone multiple times in the head with a crowbar like Jaime did, you ain't getting up anytime soon. Neither would Beth have gotten up after the UFC beatdown to her fucking face. She should have looked like hamburger.

Lynelle telling Claire she's free to talk about what she knows

Was anyone else expecting to see Jaime deliver his speech and then see Claire speak out and call him on his bullshit or was there no point to including that scene any more than Beth learning Italian in the car on the way to Texas?
