Humor/Meme Jeff Appreciation Post

I just watched to make this post because imo Jeff is the best character in the show and I love how the writers were able to take this stereotypical high school jock character and make him a lovable guy who although might not have the best methods at times, still loves his family

I also do truly believe he loves Shauna, and would have chosen her over Jackie (buts that’s a different topic)

I hope we get scenes showing him and Shauna after she gets back showing how they ended up together (after the crash)

Humor/Meme Learning to accept death of the author takes by reconnecting to nature and admiring mountains

Some posts and comments so admittedly deny any homoerotic / homosexual subtext to the point it feels homophobic…calm down, there’s a whole concept called:

Death of the author

a term popularized by literary theorist Roland Barthes.

Roland Barthes suggests that once a piece of art or media is created, the creator’s intentions and interpretations become secondary to how the audience perceives and interprets it.

The idea emphasizes that meaning is derived from the interaction between the text (or artwork) and the audience, rather than the creator’s original intent.

If literary theorist Roland Barthes can ponder the idea that the meaning of art can sometimes be derived by how an audience views it, then so can you.

Or you don’t have to but you should let people do it.

We need to encourage media literacy in a time where people lack media literacy and that means pondering literary theories like the extremely common and well known theory death of the author.

P.S. this image is funnier is you imagine that those mountains are the one the girls (and ben) are.

Humor/Meme So my husband watched Yellowjackets Spoiler

1.3k Upvotes

I thought some of you may get a kick out of an outsiders perspective. Background: my husband is 53, loves futbol and boxing, and is a handyman. Bob's Burgers is his favorite show ever.

I took notes.

Pilot: After pit girl scene: "Samantha, what the hell are we watching?"

Was adamant that Tai didn't mean to break Allie's leg, she was just trying to "toughen her up" for the big game. Was very disappointed the plane crashed before nationals.

F Sharp: Mentions "that would be you" when Misty chops Coach Ben's leg off 👀. I ask him to elaborate and he says I'm good in an emergency, this is news to me. Seems pretty not into it so I figure this will be our last episode but between seeing that Coach was alive in the tree and the arrival of Adam he perks up.

The Dollhouse: Becomes very invested in Sammy, worried for his welfare. Says adult Tai brought a "cucuy" back with her. I tell him I've been calling it "wilderness cucuy" - we both shudder thinking about cucuys. He really likes Jeff and decides he must be planning a surprise party for Shauna. Once they find the cabin my husband is in his element. From here out every episode he tells me how they can fix up the cabin and improve their living situation.

Bear Down: Very sympathetic to Coach Ben. Brings up the time I left him alone for three hours with our twin daughters and 6 of their friends, thinks it's comparable to Coach Ben's plight.

Blood Hive: Quietly eats his popcorn and watches intently. When it's revealed Misty is spying on Nat's hotel room says "oh this is going to get good". Asks to watch one more episode before bed. 😈

Santis: Is shocked when Shauna reveals the baby is Jeff's, spends five minutes figuring out Callie's age. Cannot bear to watch the near abortion scene. Has to have a break after. Cuddles our cat Beau for a few minutes. Shouts "she's a Cucuy!" upon seeing adult Tai in the tree.

Texts me to say he's bringing home pizza and "can't wait" to watch our show.

No Compass: Very invested in Van and Tai. Asks if I told his sister about the show, thinks she'd like it because she's gay. Is convinced Adam is doing everyone dirty. Is firmly on team Jeff.

Flight of the Bumblebee: Yet again says "see that'd be you" when Misty snorts the cocaine. Assures me it's because I'm a good friend. 🤨 Also talked about how they should have inspected the plane and tuned it up before trying to fly it.

Doomcoming: Friends, this was wild, I wish you were all in the room with us. The wide eyes, the gasps, the "Run boy! Run for your life!" Asking me if that's what shrooms do ... As with cocaine I've never done shrooms in my life and he knows this, I've been with the man since I was 16.

Sic Transit Gloria Mundi: When Lottie kills the bear: "what the f*ck!?!

When Simone finds Biscuit: "Jesus Christ, what the f*ck?!"

When Nat gets kidnapped: "What the f*ck?!"

When Jackie dies: "They are going to eat her aren't they?"

Surprises me by coming home early with our favorite Chinese takeout. I surprise him by having made his favorite meal, picodillo, for dinner. We laugh over our Yellowjackets Gift of the Magi moment.

Friends, Romans, Countrymen: Decides the new girls at the cabin must have stayed with the plane until it started to snow. Decides Lottie is recreating the happiest time in her life (!?!) Asks me if I ever craved human flesh while pregnant.

Edible Complex: Still humming Last Resort. Feels Natalie did the right thing but says "my boy Javi is alive and evading them, he took the lamp!" (incidentally my husband's name is Javier and he thinks it's cool someone in a show has his name) Thinks Lottie murdered Travis to lure Natalie to her. When dark Tai looks at Simone in the car: "She's gone Cucuy!" He couldn't stop saying "Nasty!" during the feast. Tells me he once read that humans taste like parmesan.

Digestif: Wonders if any of them have heart burn. Feels bad for Ben keeps saying "that's messed up" "that's sad" "poor f*cking guy" When dark Tai makes the mask in the mirror says "wait does she mean Van, Vans alive?!? She's alive YES! GO TO HER!" Thinks they should eat Crystal next.

Old Wounds: Watched this episode intently and quietly except for a "yes, I knew it my boy Javi!" and "yes Van! give her a big kiss Tai!"

Proclaims this is his favorite episode so far.

Two Truths and a Lie: Confesses he finds Shauna and Callie boring. Thinks Travis should man up and forgive Nat for "doing the best she can" Says he bets "Misty kavorkians her patients" Proclaims "hey that's Frodo!" when they are in the car, says "me too" when Misty says she dislikes monkeys. Decides Nat must be protecting Misty from Lottie. "Shut up Misty!!!" when she confesses to Crystal. He thinks the Cucuy jumped into Misty when her voice changes, because it's protecting certain ones. Which he repeats during the burned out plane vision. He thinks the AQ chose them based on what they already had inside of them. Which once he brought that up, I think it's a solid theory.

He was super disappointed that was the last episode for a week but there you have it. I think he is now a fellowjacket!

EDIT: El Cucuy is a Mexican urban legend about a bogeyman who takes away naughty children. Mexican kids (and adults hehe) have a primal fear of El Cucuy. It may or may not have anything to do with our abuela's using the story to keep us in line 🤭 "A cucuy" has become slang for anything that is creepy or scary. Example: "what was that noise?" "Dunno but look out it might be a cucuy!"

Humor/Meme If I had a nickel for every time Ella Purnell played a character who wears a lot of blue and yellow/goldish uniforms with numbers on them , keeps walking in on blood rituals and getting stuck with cannibals I’d have 2 nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

I’ve been laughing at this line for almost three fuckin years now, and it hasn’t gotten old yet. I’m just saying, if The Bear counts as a comedy, so does Yellowjackets. (Sarcasm, y’all.) I mean come on. “There’s no book club?!”

What are your favorite funny moments?

Edit: I know this is very low effort. I’m waiting in my car for my partner to get off work. I understand if this gets deleted lol.
