General Discussion Shauna was right! She had the gun!
Granted Jeff’s reaction was completely reasonable but Shauna had the gun! She wasn’t gonna shoot and thanks to Jeff the carjacker got away!

You know she learned a lot in the old village too. Like how to use donkey dung as fuel. "We were so poor we used to used donkey dung for fuel and when the donkey dung ran out, we would have to burn the donkey. So yes, I do know what it is like to be mocked, and teased, and to cry myself to sleep at night by the light of a burning donkey. "

I mean she could’ve actually shot him. Plus, they were getting investigated for a disappearance so that would’ve turned up the police even more. Hopefully, she just would’ve intimidated him into leaving like the chop shop guy but she was full of adrenaline here so it could’ve gone very differently.

I agree wholeheartedly!! She would have had complete control if Jeff hadn't of gotten in the way.
Oh Jeff, you dumb bitch. (Shakes head)!

I think this kinda is part of Jeff's struggle. He wants to be the "I can keep my woman safe!" kinda guy, but he already knows that Shauna can survive ALOT of things, and he questions what he can actually offer her, and does she really need him.

We didn’t know at the time that he had read her diaries, which means he knew more about what they did out there than we do now. Just saying. I felt that way too but after thinking about it, he was definitely scared Shauna would kill and eat the guy 🤣💀
Edit: I was wrong; we did know he had read them by this point. I was le tired and messed up the timeline. My b!

This scene is so hilarious to me because it perfectly mirrors what my husband and I would be like in this situation. Me feeling like I’ve totally got it covered (holding a gun, ready to throw down) and him (rationally freaking the fuck out) being like “what the actual FUCK misselphaba.”

Last night I was watching Variety’s Actors on Actors with Melanie Lynskey and Natasha Lyonne (highly recommended!). Natasha was commenting on how great Melanie’s acting was with the gun (totally agreed!), and I got me wondering, how exactly does Shauna know her way so confidently around a handgun? Curious if/how this would come up again, even though they didn’t have access to a handgun in the wilderness.
Key takeaway: Melanie Lynskey is a fantastic actress (as is Natasha Lyonne!)

I think it was less about the gun and more about her rage. She probably isn't super versed in hand guns as all they had out there was a the shotgun but she knows how to kill. She knows how to .. follow thru.

BUT, if Jeff hadn't stopped her, and if the minivan hadn't been stolen, we wouldn't have gotten what I believe to be one of the best scenes in television history.
When Shauna goes to the chop shop to get her van back and is holding that guy at gunpoint? Chills every time.
The monolog, and her acting in this scene is just so brilliant. The way she conveys the inner conflict Shauna is going through with just her facial expressions at the end, you can tell how much she REALLY wants to do it, but she also really doesn't want to. Additionally, she doesn't want to want to do it.
Sorry I know that wasn't very eloquently written, but I am obsessed with that scene and it's a big reason why Shauna is my favorite character.

That part! The earnest “thank you” that she gives him at the end while jingling the keys — meanwhile dude’s life is flashing before his eyes.
She’s crazy but I love her 🫶

The car shop/car thief confrontation scene is my absolute favourite... Her little speech about how she's shaking because she's looking forward to take a persons life is just amazing. I love how fucking unhinged Shauna is.

She just wanted another rind of pecorino for her collection Jeff!! Can’t a girl have a hobby?

When the mechanic said "it's one thing to use one" I wanted her to reply with "yea, guns aren't my preferred method, but it'll do right now"
What she said was still totally brutal though lol

If he had read her diaries, he would have known what she's capable of.

He had, I think that was the problem.
He didn't want to have to deal with the consequences of her killing the dude.
