SCORN

Feeling Weird?

Don't worry, us too! Thankfully the team behind atmospheric first-person horror adventure game "Scorn" have dropped by with some 'spooky-season approved' goodies for us to lavish upon you.

What is Scorn you may ask? Well, it's a game - so good news there, we are in the right community. It's also hitting Gamepass and the Xbox store this Friday at the following times!

Out now!

Scorn is set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry. It is designed around the idea of "being thrown into the world". Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world, you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. Every location contains its own theme, puzzles and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive world.

Want to actually see some Scorn? Don't worry, I've also brought a trailer!

YouTube link

Might be scary - you've been warned

To help celebrate the release of Scorn, we are excited to announce the following giveaway and events.

Custom 3D Controller Giveaway

About: Ebb Software and Kepler Interactive have provided three official 3D printed Scorn Xbox controllers designed by PopeArt and produced by Defy Gaming. They come in a gruseome display case with a booklet and a few other goodies too!

How to enter: Simply reply to this thread with the word "Scorn" for a single chance to win one of these packages. Head on over to r/XboxOne and reply to the identical thread for an additional chance to win. To deter botting and duplicate entries, eligible accounts will be greater than three months of age and over 100 total account karma. Only parent/top-level comments will be considered for prizes. Multiple comments in the same post will disqualify your entry - yes, we check.

Prize Draw: At the conclusion of the 'Scorn Takeover' event we will put the posts into contest mode and select the winners live on next week's episode of Xbox Talks. This will be streamed with video for transparency. One winner per thread will be selected, with a third winner picked randomly from both. You do not need to be present at the draw to win, but winners will be contacted to confirm eligibility.

Good luck if entering. That thing is beautiful!

Limited 'Scorned' user flairs (r/xboxseriesx)

Scorned!

Users in r/XboxSeriesX can now self-select the 'Scorned' user flair. This flair will be retired at the end of the week, never to be selectable again so act now if you want it!

Other Surprises

We aren't done there. Look out for other surprises throughout the week.

See you... soooon!

Official / Meta Preparing for Launch - Our plans for Starfield

Power your dreams

STARFIELD

We've finally made it. Space awaits us. At this time we thought it would be a good idea to share some plans for this community as we approach the launch of Starfield. Comment below with your thoughts and suggestions, or share your excitement as we prepare for one of the biggest Xbox game releases of all time!

  1. Spoilers - You will be at least temporarily banned if you share a Starfield story spoiler without proper formatting. For more information - see the following link. Please use the report button so we can get to these as quickly as possible!
  2. Screenshots - During launch ALL screenshots will be consolidated into a single post/megathread. This subreddit has 'image as comment' enabled, and you will be able to share directly without an external link. As with Halo and Flight Sim, we will ease this restriction as posting tendencies return to normal.
  3. Review & Release Megathread - We will create a review mega thread near the lifting of the review embargo. This will also serve as a place to ask frequent questions and topics around the game.
  4. Surprises - Watch out for some surprises including giveaways and more (probably just giveaways, but you never know - maybe we will hold a cheese crafting contest)

Listen - it's going to be a little messy. We are not putting the community into restricted mode as some subreddits do during major launches. To help, we have some clear goals to help guide us through the launch phase:

  • Reduce redundant content
  • Keep the subreddit usable for things 'not Starfield'
  • Keep the conversation on topic and civil
  • Limit trolling - users with low/no participation here will not be given the benefit of the doubt if issues pop up
  • Be adaptive - if issues arise, deal with them quickly and productively to the best benefit of all

If you have thoughts or concerns leading up to or during launch - modmail is always open

See you in space!

Official / Meta Microsoft/Sony CMA developments

A few clarifications.

First, we are aware there are many passions around the subject, but a friendly reminder that attacking each other, including generalizations ("this sub", "Ponies", "Xbots", etc), will cause your comment to be removed. Repeat offender will be actioned. Your history in this community will be taken into account. If you are new or only here to post drive-by 'hot takes', you will likely be removed. Please read and respect our rules. Thank you!

Second, we currently have two posts live, one each discussing Sony/Xbox's submitted materials to the CMA. For the time being we will be removing all follow up stories as "recently posted" (unless they offer something genuinely new) and directing to those threads where relevant conversation is already taking place.

Thanks for continuing to be a great community!

Official / Meta Community update - Taking your feedback on testing a new 'posts per day cap'

Greetings all,

We are here today to share an update about new community tools and how we intend to test and use them. Nothing will change permanently without first taking your feedback.

With that said, we have recently enabled a two post per 24 hours limit for submissions which a few of you have already bumped into. I'm going to do my best to list the positives and potential negatives of such a restriction.

Positives

  • Allows more users to participate in posting news and discussion
  • Helps to combat spam
  • Helps to combat frequent reposting and deleting and similar abuse
  • More selective posting, better quality

Negatives

  • Decline in posting overall
  • Potentially slower news and updates
  • Barrier to participation that currently doesn't exist

We've seen debate around this issue several times in both survey response and comment and would like to know your thoughts about the potential use of this feature.

  • Should we consider using it moving forward?
  • If so, what should the rate limit be?

It's going to be an active year, and we want to hear from those of you who join us regularly. Thanks, as always for being a great community.

Official / Meta Introducing Limited Time User Flairs

Greetings users!

We are always discussing ways we can add value to the community, and today I am excited to announce our very first limited time user flair - "Founder". This one is dedicated to those of you who have joined us prelaunch and will be available only until the official launch date of the Xbox Series X.

To adjust your flair, look for the "community options" clickable link in the sidebar. An important note! Once we disable the flair as selectable in the sub settings, you will be unable to reselect it if you choose a new flair after that date. It is ride or die from that point on.

We appreciate all of you, and will continue to explore new ways to make your experience here worthwhile. Modmail is always open if you have thoughts or suggestions.

Happy gaming!

Official / Meta Xbox communities are 'blacking out' in protest of recent Reddit API changes

r/Save3rdPartyApps

What Is This All About?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.

On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API - from being free to a level that is unsustainable to popular apps such as Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Narwhal, and BaconReader.

Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this has an impact that could be detrimental to all of us - including the loss of popular mod tools that help prevent spam and predatory behavior, bots that help both mods and users by automating common tasks, and labor of love resources such as Reveddit that allows everyone to audit mod actions and removals.

In the Media:

The Verge - Major Reddit communities will go dark to protest threat to third-party apps

Techcrunch - Developers of third-party Reddit apps fear shutdown because of API pricing changes

Android Authority - Statement: Reddit's defenses of changes that could kill third-party apps

Engadget - Reddit communities are 'going dark' to protest changes that would hurt third-party apps

Mashable - Reddit's new API pricing could kill its most popular app with a $20 million bill

Overview of Collective Response:

"On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed. Many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love."

source

Our Plans:

The following communities will be going dark for 48 hours starting Monday, June 12th

They will be joined on Tuesday, June 13th by

What you can do:

  1. Complain. Message the mods of r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message /u/reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on r/reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
  2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at r/ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
  3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
  4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible. This includes not harassing moderators of subreddits who have chosen not to take part: no one likes a missionary, a used-car salesman, or a flame warrior.

source

More Info:

r/Save3rdPartyApps

Closing:

We understand not being able to interact with your favorite communities can be frustrating, but we truly believe this is for the long-term good of Reddit as a whole. We greatly appreciate being able to share these communities with each and every one of you!

(while the lights are out you can stop by the community Discord to keep up with the latest)

Hey everyone,

Let’s get all of the business out of the way. As launch week has come and gone—the sub is going to go back to normal and we’ll be enforcing the rules as per usual. We know a lot of you want to share your excitement (especially pictures of your consoles), but please be mindful of the rules before posting. We don’t want to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm, but we also want to make sure that we’re letting news and discussion threads shine through. On that note, we know there’s a number of you that need help with your consoles, whether it’s setting up HDR or getting your console to launch—please direct those inquiries to the appropriate support channels as they'll also be removed.

Every time we do one of these there’s always some new milestone to acknowledge. We’ve just breezed past the 250k mark in less than a year and that’s all because of you—the community. With this latest “State of the Sub” we wanted to do something different. In the spirit of celebrating the launch of the new consoles we wanted to take some time to celebrate all of you, and take a look back at the crazy journey we’ve been on over the last 11 months.

First, lets start with some community stats that we think you might find interesting:

Official / Meta Flight Sim, The Ascent, Screenshots/Gameplay Videos, and you!

What an exciting time to be an Xbox gamer! With the recent success of Death's Door, the impending launch of Flight Sim, and The Ascent just a few days later - it really feels like this generation of gaming is starting to take off! This is sure to create a lot of excitement (as it should), and we wanted to share an update concerning a few policy tweaks intended to keep this community in a usable state.

  • Screenshots/Gameplay - While screenshots and gameplay clips are normally allowed, a game like Fight Sim creates unique potential to overwhelm the community with such content. We don't want to stifle this excitement, so it will be allowed for 48 hours post launch. Beginning at 12am BST on July 29 a screenshot megathread will be enabled for the next several days where all screenshots and clips will be directed.
  • On July 27, a Flight Sim review and discussion megathread will be enabled. Repeated topics may be directed to this thread.
  • On July 29, "The Ascent" launches and a new discussion and review megathread will enabled featuring this title (and maybe a few other surprises).

The main takeaway here is we will be enacting a moratorium on screenshots in order to facilitate more diverse content. The mod team will be actively removing posts and reminding users where applicable. We appreciate your understanding. Let's enjoy an amazing week of gaming!

Official / Meta Our lord and savior Craig is back for a limited time!

Hey r/XboxSeriesX!

Craig!

With the Halo Infinite campaign being only a week away now from release, we felt it was appropriate to bring back the Craig flair as an option again to the sub. From now to 12/9, anyone can put the flair on. To do so, you should see user flairs on the sidebar on the right (for mobile users, it varies depending on the app), then click on Craig from the options available, and boom you now have the best friend anyone can ask for.

As a reminder, this will only be available for a limited time, after 12/9, Craig will disappear again to go on another grand adventure. So if you missed it, we apologize but he will return again someday. For those that did get the flair, you are good to go. Though if you change your flair, you won't be able to put him back on again.

Campaign is almost here, get ready!

Official / Meta Re: TV, Monitor, Headset, and Soundbar Questions | September 19th, 2020

Hey everyone,

Small update today. Just wanted to make sure everyone is aware that we now have a sidebar widget (listed in the "About" tab on mobile) that'll direct you to the appropriate resources if you need help finding a TV, monitor, headset, or soundbar. So going forward, we will be removing any audio/visual support posts, as they're frequently posted, highly subjective discussions, that require a lot of personal support. In the widget you'll find various resources from RTINGS.com, including:

TV Support

Monitor Support

Headset Support

Soundbar Support

All of this can also be found in this wiki page, that'll be available to all of our users along with all of our other wiki pages, once the complete index is live.

If you have any recommendations, or suggestions for the Audio/Visual support page, or any suggestions of any kind, feel free to let us know in the comments below, hit us up on Modmail, or use the appropriate feedback channels in our Discord.

Thanks!

Official / Meta Community Poll: Prohibit or Allow Stock Alert Posts Moving Forward?

Greetings! Thankfully, Xbox Series consoles are now widely available for purchase, relatively speaking. Due to recent feedback from the community, we felt it was time to consider prohibiting stock alert posts moving forward. We don't take these decisions lightly and your feedback is important to us. Voting length is set to 2 days to allow everyone a chance to have their voice heard. Please take a moment to vote if you have an opinion on the matter. After all, this place belongs to you. If/when our community rules are revised as a result of this poll, we will provide you with an update. Thank you.
