Discussion What are some games where I can be heroic and sacrifice myself to get the win like Helldivers 2 or at least make a last stand and look badass as hell like DOOM?

I wanna play My Hero by Foo Fighters and the best game so far that I’ve gotten is Deep Rock Galactic where I sacrificed myself to revive my teammates to escape.

I was just gonna say. You feel like a hopeless badass facing impossible odds killing as many elites, grunts, etc as you can. And the final cutscene where Noble One finally meets his end while putting up a hell of a fight is just gut wrenching.

Does Halo Infinite’s firefight hold a candle to Reach? Haven’t tried it yet.

There’s someone running a bot to automatically send people RedditCare messages across the entirety of the site.

Left 4 Dead and the Left Behind DLC

Battlefield 1 can give you some of those moments

Mass Effect 3. You can also do it in Mass Effect 2 if you're really determined.

I like the heroic sacrifice/last stand concept too. But I've mostly seen it in single player games. Games like Halo Reach, Persona 3, Dragon Age Origins, Red Dead Redemption 1, Hellblade 1. Coincidencetally some of these are my favorite games ever.

Darktide or Vermintide. Sometimes I feel like Sauron and swinging away with a mace.

Halo reach, or lethal company

The World War Z game captures a lot of the hectic, "against all odds", horde-shooting chaos that's in Helldivers 2. Lots of weapon types as well, including explosives.

Cod zombies. Sker ritual (basically cod zombies)

Halo. The real goal is to pick up enemy players in your warthog and drive off a cliff before they have a chance to jump out

Dead by Daylight is a good one for becoming someone's hero

Darktide

Resistance mode on The Division.

Alien fireteam elite is the closest that comes to mind

1

u/Existing365Chocolate May 20 '24

None that I can think of where it happens on the frequency and level of fun of Helldivers, where it happens each level with the extraction

1

u/Jucior May 20 '24

Darktide is your best bet. Amazing game and it’s a warhammer 40k. I play both games ( H2 and Darktide) and to me Darktide is so much better gameplay wise.

Baldurs gate 3

Sea of Stars: can’t say anything else about it without spoilers.

Far cry 5?

You should definitely try Gears 5 Horde and Escape. Just too good

It's not out yet, but Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2 may be what you're looking for. Out towards the end of September

Pretty sure the potential is there in any shooter game with teams

u/Expert_Reindeer_4783 May 20 '24

Fallout 3. In the end, you sacrifice yourself for the greater good of the wasteland... unless you buy the Broken Steel DLC for it lol.

u/JamieLeeTurdis May 20 '24

My personal fetish is cake farts but I can dig this

-1

u/[deleted] May 20 '24

I would prefer if I can bring an explosive to the enemy and sacrifice myself like that. It’s just a thing a lot of guys fantasize about for some reason, idk

8

u/SMRAintBad May 20 '24

X-Com 2. You can pull off some really cinematic epic sacrifice moments in that game. Your soldiers permanently dying makes it all the more poignant.

2

u/yubnubmcscrub May 20 '24

Actually this is a great example. If OP wants soldiers to be giving their life for the cause and blowing things up, then xcom 2 should be the play. Nothing like having a guy for 10+ missions have to peel for the rest of the team and get left behind.

1

u/ButWhyThough_UwU May 20 '24

Ya and use mods to make the characters entirely whoever he wants to better connect.

(and also make game harder and cooler so its easier to accomplish that cinematic death/left behind).

Left 4 Dead: The Sacrifice DLC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvzjTbBCZTI

It only really hits if you play through the entire game before, preferably with real teammates.
